In this blog post, I present a sample cover letter centered on my strengths and capabilities, addressing the question: “Why am I the most suitable candidate for the MD position?”
“We really click!”
After meeting people and talking with them, the things I hear most often are “Why did I only meet you now?” or “We really click!” I believe the biggest reason I hear these things is because of the ‘curiosity’ within me. I find it truly fascinating that each person has their own unique thoughts and personality. That individuality doesn’t stop at personality; it extends to clothing choices, makeup, eating habits, perspectives on relationships, and even daily routines and health. This fact always strikes me as fresh and fascinating.
That’s why when I meet someone, I always listen with an open mind and genuine curiosity. Going beyond just ‘hearing’ what they say to truly ‘listening well’ and showing empathy naturally opens their heart. I believe the fondness people have for me likely stems from this very attitude. And I place no boundaries on this curiosity and openness. I mingle freely with people of all ages and nationalities, not just my peers, accepting their cultures and ideas as they are without hesitation. I often find myself marveling, “There’s another world within this world,” as I communicate naturally with friends I’ve met abroad. I am someone who quickly absorbs new perspectives, respects diversity, and possesses a broad capacity for understanding.
This curiosity was also the driving force of my life during my university years. Feeling that Korean society had a relatively narrow cultural spectrum, I constantly sought to experience a wider world and diverse cultures. As a result, I can naturally carry on any conversation, on any topic, with people of any inclination, and steer the discussion in the direction the other person desires. My strength lies not only in listening but also in responding with tact and wit, keeping the atmosphere light and pleasant. This disposition extends beyond mere conversational skill. My discernment in evaluating products follows the same principle. My sensibilities, honed through direct travel to diverse countries like France, the UK, and Japan, have cultivated an eye for the new and an insight for recognizing value.
Through two transfers and six majors, I’ve accumulated knowledge across diverse fields. Viewing the world through varied perspectives has granted me a broader vision. These experiences have made me more flexible and versatile, and all these qualities are precisely why I’m applying to your company. I am confident in my ability to communicate with people, sense what they desire, and possess the discernment and knowledge to recommend excellent products more accurately than anyone else. Therefore, I am confident I can demonstrate my capabilities in the MD role and wish to prove this directly during the interview.
“Why do people seek out ○○ Company?”
I have long pondered why it must be ‘○○ Company’. The conclusion is clear: ○○ Company is an enterprise that has always been associated with the epithet ‘first’. In Korea, no other company comes to mind that introduces such a diverse range of brands—especially those hard to find domestically but already proven overseas—and plans and distributes them so consumers can easily access them. A place where you can find trustworthy products, reasonable prices, outstanding quality, and reliable brands all in one spot. That place is ○○ Company.
People say, “If you don’t know what to buy, go to ○○ Company.” Products found there have a reason for being there and are trustworthy. I believe brands that started this way were first introduced at ○○ Company, and brands that succeeded this way also began at ○○ Company. That’s why I wanted to work not for any other company, but only for ○○ Company.
I am well aware that I still have many shortcomings and much to learn. But that’s precisely why I dream big. I too want to add a new ‘first’ to ○○ Company. I want to be the person who creates another turning point through new methods, new brands, and new approaches. Once again, I aspire to be an employee who leads the boom at Company ○○. I may still be a reckless newbie, but I love Company ○○, I possess passion, and I am someone who does not hesitate to take on challenges. That is my second reason why I am a good fit for your company.
“What I do best? That’s ‘chatting’.”
Finally, the reason you should hire me is precisely because I’m a ‘chatterbox’. Beyond simply being articulate, I mean the ability to share joyfully, empathize, and brighten the atmosphere. Personally, I believe someone too serious and scholarly might not be well-suited for MD work. An MD should be able to freely discuss all aspects of a product, engage in fun and whimsical imagination, and sometimes approach things playfully. I feel that a sense of ‘playing’ with products is crucial—like drawing with lipstick or using eyeshadow on nails.
In fact, I run a beauty blog where I share such ‘chatter’ with people. Those who visit my blog crave novelty over standardized styles; they’re always searching for something fresh. My closest blogger friend creates creative styles by using eyeliner for lip makeup or attaching earrings to clothes. I, too, meticulously analyze cosmetic ingredients and have experimented with using foot cream as hand cream or neck cream as face cream.
In this way, I am someone who goes beyond simply introducing products; I possess the instinct to ‘play with’ products. Someone who doesn’t get stuck in set patterns, who constantly communicates with others through new attempts, and who can breathe new life into brands and products. I want to be that kind of MD. This is the third reason why I am essential to your company.
“I grew up through hardship.”
People often say to me: “With your glamorous looks and aura, you seem far removed from hardship.” Or, “Your parents must have provided everything for you.” But the reality is the exact opposite. Since childhood, I’ve lived independently from my parents. After their business failed, they took on the toughest jobs in America to pay off debts and make ends meet. People often imagine good jobs when they hear someone went to America, but my parents work silently at the very bottom of American society.
Seeing their backs like that, I resolved to no longer depend on them. Since my freshman year of college, I’ve lived taking responsibility not only for my tuition and living expenses, but also for my younger sibling. I pulled all-nighters, barely sleeping every other day, juggling studies and work while refusing to give up on what I loved. Because the responsibility placed on me was so great, my parents didn’t interfere in my life, and I had to build my life entirely on my own strength.
Through this journey, I came to understand the value of money, the meaning of work, and the weight of responsibility better than most. That’s why I take initiative without being told and work diligently even when no one is watching. If given the opportunity to join your company, I will show you the effort and perseverance hidden behind my smile, along with my unexpected charm. I aim to be more than just a bright and positive person; I will be someone who quietly holds their ground and takes responsibility.
I aspire to learn more and grow further. If given the opportunity, I will establish myself as an MD who communicates effectively with people and brings your brand to life, someone who will make the name of ○○ Company shine even brighter. I earnestly hope you will trust me as I am now and watch over my potential. Thank you.
