This blog post introduces methods and specific expression strategies for effectively incorporating collaborative experiences from diverse projects into your architectural design resume.
About Me
I grew up in a warm, loving home filled with constant laughter, living with my grandparents. I often see heated debates on TV about mother-in-law conflicts or generational clashes, but such scenes don’t resonate much with me. That’s because my mother and grandmother have an exceptionally close relationship, like sisters.
My grandmother, who married young and raised five sons, often felt lonely surrounded by men. Perhaps because of this, she felt a deep fondness for my mother from the moment they met and treated her with genuine warmth. My mother, too, had always carried the absence of her own mother in her heart since she passed away early, so the two naturally grew emotionally close. When I tell people that my father felt left out between them, most react with disbelief. Whenever that happens, I feel a deep pride that our family lives within such a special bond.
Our home atmosphere is always bright and warm. Both my grandfather and grandmother have optimistic and positive personalities, so naturally, all family members support and encourage each other. In this warm environment, I was able to grow with confidence and stability, learning an attitude of life centered on mutual consideration and cooperation. I believe this environment provides the solid foundation necessary for a person to live their life.
Both of them practice a life of constant learning and challenge. Recently, they’ve become deeply engrossed in Go. What started as my grandfather’s hobby, Go, was later taken up by my grandmother, and now the two of them often play late into the night. I naturally came to play Go myself, developing the ability to read my opponent’s moves and grasp the overall flow of the game. I see Go not just as a game, but as a high-level psychological battle. The thrill of discerning your opponent’s intentions is what makes Go so fascinating.
Growing up in such a harmonious family, I personally experienced how crucial cooperation among members truly is. I learned that true happiness comes only when everyone unites toward a common goal and supports one another. I view the workplace as another form of ‘family’. I believe that when diverse individuals come together toward a shared objective, all members can grow and achieve greater success.
With a heart that cherishes family, I will fulfill my responsibilities diligently and always approach my work with sincerity and passion. I aspire to be a team member who builds warm relationships with colleagues and creates greater value through collaboration.
Growth Journey
“Mastering the fundamentals is essential to achieving great results.”
These words from my senior year homeroom teacher didn’t resonate with me back then. During an anxious time when friends were giving up on college one by one, my teacher repeatedly emphasized the need to “build a solid foundation.” At that time, when I felt I had no time to spare, the advice to revisit the fundamentals felt detached from reality.
However, one day when I was exhausted from my grades stubbornly refusing to improve, my teacher quietly called me aside and gave me sincere advice: to start over with the English subject from the very basics. In that moment, I sensed that her words contained not just simple advice, but genuine care and belief in me. From that day on, I resolved to go back to the beginning and start anew.
As a senior focused solely on speed-solving problems, I rarely paused to deeply analyze the questions I kept getting wrong. But as I systematically reviewed basic grammar and meticulously revisited the concepts behind each recurring mistake, I gradually became familiar with the question types. This shift soon translated into improved grades. Though I began with skepticism, I ultimately came to deeply understand that ‘adhering to fundamentals is paramount.’
This experience profoundly impacted not just my studies, but my entire life. I gained the conviction that maintaining a foundational approach in any situation ultimately fosters growth and guides one in the right direction. Since then, I’ve strived to uphold fundamentals in various everyday moments, with ‘sincerity’ at the core of this approach.
For me, the fundamental of daily life is a ‘sincere attitude’. Sincerity is the inner strength that drives one to give their best effort in any task; it is the foundation that enables one to maximize their capabilities. Therefore, whether in academics, daily life, or any future responsibilities, I intend to approach everything with sincerity as my foundation. This is my life principle and the fundamental I have upheld.
I am confident that at your company, I will be evaluated as a reliable member who approaches assigned tasks with responsibility and sincerity, staying true to this fundamental attitude. Building on my past experiences, I will grow together with you in an even more solid and mature manner.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
I have a meticulous nature. Rather than tackling tasks all at once, I prefer to plan ahead and proceed step by step. I derive great satisfaction from efficiently using the time allotted to neatly complete tasks. However, this approach did not come easily at first. Dividing work into smaller units and executing them on schedule required numerous trials and errors. Days when everything went exactly according to plan were extremely rare, and unexpected variables often threw my schedule off course.
Through these experiences, I realized the importance of ‘buffer time’. I began building extra time into my schedule at various points to prepare for unforeseen circumstances. This way, even if I couldn’t finish everything planned for the day, I could use that buffer time to wrap things up. Through repeated efforts like this, I gradually became someone who could handle tasks systematically, and in the process, the quality of my work naturally improved.
I am also highly organized. I believe a pleasant and clean work environment enhances focus and efficiency. Therefore, I always pay attention to keeping my surroundings tidy. For example, during my part-time job, I would arrive slightly before my shift to ventilate the space and begin organizing the store. Initially, my boss was somewhat puzzled, but over time, he came to highly value my consistency.
Working in an organized space clears my mind and naturally allows for greater immersion in the task. I’ve acted on this out of personal conviction, not because someone told me to. I believe in the principle of “if it benefits everyone, take the initiative to act first.” This attitude also tends to leave a positive impression on those around me.
Finally, I possess a perfectionist streak. Whether professionally or personally, I constantly strive to become a better version of myself through rigorous self-management. In the workplace, this trait has earned me recognition as a “high performer.” My meticulous and responsible work ethic has also been instrumental in building trust within the team.
However, on a personal level, I sometimes gave the impression of being unapproachable. In reality, I am quite expressive with my emotions and place great importance on communication and empathy. Nevertheless, my outwardly perfectionist demeanor occasionally led others to perceive me as somewhat cold. Over time, those who got to know me deeply naturally dispelled these misunderstandings and instead came to value my sincerity and warmth even more.
My pursuit of perfection has brought me many things. And through this journey, I learned one crucial truth: perfection isn’t the end result, but stems from constant effort and attitude. Within that effort, I discovered myself gradually improving, and I came to find meaning in the process itself.
My personality can be summarized as ‘planned and organized habits,’ ‘proactive execution,‘ and ‘a perfectionist attitude.’ Of course, all these traits come with both strengths and weaknesses. However, rather than hiding my weaknesses, I strive to understand and refine them, growing in a way that maximizes my strengths. Moving forward, I want to build on these tendencies to become a better version of myself. And in that process, I want to positively influence and be influenced by everyone I meet, growing together.
Passionate Challenges to Achieve Goals
I have experience participating in the ○○ Architecture Design Competition. With only about two weeks left until the deadline, I first had to decide whether to take on the challenge. With no pre-planned design and the requirement to build a physical model, I questioned whether the schedule was realistically feasible. Rather than deciding alone, I chose to discuss it with my club members.
After the meeting, many members expressed their willingness to participate, saying, “A competition of this scale hosted by ○○ is worth challenging.” I, too, decided to join, thinking, ‘Since I started late, I’ll pour even more passion into it.’
However, the first major hurdle struck as soon as we began conceptualizing the project. Team members disagreed on the design direction. One friend, who had analyzed previous winning entries, argued that aligning with established award trends would be advantageous. I, on the other hand, believed a design showcasing our unique style and personality would be more competitive. Our arguments were evenly matched, and for a moment, it seemed like a crack had formed in our teamwork. But I believed that precisely at times like this, we needed to remind ourselves of the common goal we had set at the beginning.
Ultimately, after thorough discussion with my teammates, we conceived a design that compromised between the two opinions. Through this process, we gained a deeper understanding of each other and reaffirmed the importance of collaboration. The work that followed progressed much more smoothly than at the start. By communicating more closely, we minimized room for conflict, and dramatically completed the work the day before the deadline, like a scene straight out of a drama.
This competition was more than just a challenge. Through this experience, I personally felt how crucial the attitude of ‘action over hesitation’ is, and above all, I learned that cooperation and communication among members are the core elements driving a team’s success.
This brief yet intense experience gave me the confidence to take another step forward without hesitation in the face of any future challenge. It was also a precious time that deeply instilled in me the value of cooperation in moving forward together toward a shared goal.
Motivation for Application and Aspirations
Throughout my architecture studies, I have always held a dream close to my heart: to contribute to creating spaces where everyone who uses them can feel comfort and happiness. Beyond merely designing forms, I have hoped to play a part in building structures that add warmth to people’s daily lives.
Now, as I complete my academic studies and take my first steps into society, I am applying with the conviction that ○○ is precisely the place where I can realize the dreams and aspirations I have cultivated. I am particularly interested in your company’s ○○ Housing projects. I have been deeply impressed by your projects, which consistently showcase stylish yet practical residential spaces. If I can contribute to creating spaces where sophisticated taste and practical design harmonize, that alone would be a great honor for me.
Although I am just starting out in society and still have much to learn, I can promise to approach my work with equal passion and responsibility. I will humbly learn the knowledge and skills necessary for the job and grow with joy in every moment. Throughout my career, I have built trust and earned positive evaluations by consistently demonstrating diligence in any environment. Moving forward, I will remain faithful to the fundamentals while giving my utmost effort to every task, striving to be a member who creates tangible results.
I hope my capabilities and attitude can bring positive energy to your company. If given the opportunity to grow together and advance toward better architecture, I will repay that trust by living up to your expectations.
