How can customer service part-time experience connect to a supply management role?

This blog post introduces how to effectively showcase the problem-solving skills and service mindset required for supply management roles, based on direct customer communication experience.

My Growth Journey

My parents’ constant reminder to “cultivate self-reliance” became a crucial lesson in my life. Influenced by this, I have strived to make proactive decisions in nearly every aspect of my life. This attitude has been a significant foundation for living a more independent and responsible life, and it continues to be a great source of strength whenever I face important decisions.
Life presents us with countless crossroads of choice. I couldn’t consult my parents about every single one, and above all, I always believed that I must chart the course of my own life. So, before making any decision, I developed the habit of researching various materials and carefully weighing multiple possibilities to make a prudent judgment.
Of course, this doesn’t mean I never listen to my parents’ advice. Rather, I actively listen to their perspectives and strive to learn a balanced viewpoint from them. There was a particular moment when I felt a deep need to cultivate my discernment. As I approached middle school graduation, I vaguely told my parents I planned to attend a specialized high school, without attaching much significance to university admission. However, my parents advised me, “If you don’t have a clear purpose strong enough to justify going to a specialized high school, it’s not right to make that decision simply because you don’t feel university is necessary.” They hoped I would broaden my own potential through more in-depth academic study.
Faced with that advice, I fell into deep contemplation. At the time, I still lacked a clear life goal and hadn’t even fully grasped the necessity of studying. Unable to counter my parents’ reasoning, I ultimately chose to attend a general high school. Looking back now, that decision became a crucial turning point in my life.
After entering high school, I happened to develop an interest in the field of sociology. What began as mere curiosity gradually evolved into an intellectual fascination with understanding and analyzing social issues, naturally fueling my motivation to learn. This experience cultivated a genuine desire to pursue sociology more deeply in college.
Had I entered a specialized high school without a clear goal back then, I might never have discovered this passion and enthusiasm. That experience deeply taught me the weight of the word ‘choice’ and the importance of the responsibility that comes with it.
Moving forward, I aim to remain cautious before every choice, to be someone who deliberates thoroughly and makes responsible decisions. Through this process, I will grow and become an employee who trusts themselves and knows how to move forward.

School Days

During my school days, as I became interested in social issues, I naturally developed an interest in sociological theory. Social science is a discipline that observes human life to develop theories and principles. Particularly passionate about current affairs, I participated in the KBS Golden Bell Quiz Competition during my senior year of high school, reaching the final four contestants.
When I heard our school had been confirmed to appear on Golden Bell, I was overjoyed, nearly jumping for joy on the spot. As the leader of the Current Affairs Debate Club, I was confident in my knowledge of current issues and saw this as the perfect stage to test my longstanding interest and efforts. During the preliminary rounds to select 100 participants, I even had the joy of seeing all my juniors from the debate club advance to the finals.
Anticipating fiercer competition in the finals, we each created practice questions and quizzed each other to hone our skills. As a humanities student, I felt somewhat weak in natural science fields and sometimes sought help from my science-track friends. The final questions were highly interdisciplinary, spanning both humanities and sciences, demanding broad preparation.
Making it to the final four was truly rewarding. Though I didn’t reach the championship, I had no regrets. I had prepared diligently and given my absolute best effort. Question 41, in particular, was an unfamiliar science-related question. Encountering it made me realize my own shortcomings. This experience prompted me to start subscribing to science magazines and led me to believe that even humanities students shouldn’t distance themselves from science and math.
As I consistently read science magazines, I found many theories difficult to grasp at first. However, over time, I discovered that they contained a lot of interesting, common-sense content. I developed a particular interest in energy-related topics, and articles about city gas were so fascinating that I saved them.
This experience cultivated a perspective that allows me to think holistically, integrating the humanities and natural sciences. I believe even administrative roles like supply management require a fundamental understanding of natural sciences. In this regard, my consistent learning attitude, which strives to bridge the humanities and sciences, will undoubtedly be a significant asset in this field.
Having accumulated diverse knowledge and interest in energy management fields like natural gas, I am confident I can achieve high performance in supply management duties. Beyond merely performing tasks, the passion to grow into a talent equipped with more efficient management and problem-solving skills remains alive within me.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Personality

During high school, I served as president of the Current Affairs Debate Club, planning and leading discussions on diverse topics with my team members. Upon entering university, I personally founded and operated an environmental club called ‘Green Eco’. Thus, I have naturally taken on many leadership roles within teams. I believe these experiences were possible because of my personality strengths: listening to others’ opinions, showing consideration appropriate to the situation, and communicating effectively.
The impetus for founding the ‘Green Eco’ club stemmed from my deep interest in science subjects, particularly the field of energy, during high school. My exploration of eco-friendly energy led me to recognize the importance of environmental protection and the need for humans and nature to coexist in harmony. This awareness drove me to take action. I aimed to share the value of the environment by personally planning and running programs accessible not only to university students but also to high school students.
As a result, I was able to run programs with high school students about four times a year. We conducted eco-friendly projects in a camp format within nature, such as mountains or rivers, and some of those camps remain vividly memorable. The sense of fulfillment I felt reading the feedback left by participants after the camps ended was indescribable. In this way, I possess the drive to plan based on innovative ideas and actually put them into action.
However, I also have a weakness: I tend to worry a lot. While I naturally approach tasks with caution, this caution sometimes becomes excessive and turns into worry. When planning and preparing for a task, considering too many possibilities can actually reduce the time available for execution. The compulsion to have everything perfectly prepared can sometimes act as a factor that dampens my drive.
That’s why I’ve recently started shifting my mindset a bit. I’ve come to realize that rather than trying to prepare everything perfectly during the planning stage, it’s more important to adopt an attitude of moving forward by first taking action, then correcting and supplementing any mistakes or shortcomings along the way. Through experience, I’m learning that flexible execution sometimes yields better results than perfect preparation.
Moving forward, I will continue to grow in a better direction, building on my diligence, planning skills, and ability to communicate with others. I will constantly strive to become someone who uses worry as a stepping stone to prepare more thoroughly, yet doesn’t dwell there, but boldly moves forward with execution.

Career Experience

I worked part-time at ○○ City Gas for six months, performing safety inspections by visiting households. Visiting numerous homes directly was physically demanding, but as someone just starting their career, I approached every moment with sincerity and gave my best effort.
This experience taught me a great deal. Due to the nature of door-to-door inspections, many households were wary of strangers or reluctant to open their doors. In these situations, I made a conscious effort to think from the customer’s perspective, constantly asking myself, “If I were the customer, what kind of service would I want?” This empathetic approach significantly changed my service style and, as a result, I received many “thank yous” from customers.
The experience of providing service directly to customers face-to-face will be a valuable asset in my future supply management duties. In particular, the time spent listening directly to customer complaints and contemplating what areas needed improvement became a precious opportunity for growth. It was an experience that instilled in me an attitude of constantly seeking ways to provide better service, going beyond simply performing assigned tasks.
Building on this experience, I will continue to prioritize communication with customers and strive to provide the best service with a more attentive and honest approach. I am confident that the practical experience and service mindset I have acquired will positively impact any work environment.

Motivation and Aspirations

I am confident that upon joining your company, I will quickly master the work and grow into a top expert in the field. My passion for work is unwavering, and I have always given my best effort in every task, driven by independence and a strong sense of responsibility. This attitude has been the driving force behind my dedication to my roles and the recognition I have earned.
During my university years, I broadened my interest and understanding of eco-friendly energy through my involvement in the ‘Green Eco’ club. This experience allowed me to deeply study relevant knowledge and gain practical insight into the trends and structure of the energy industry. I am confident this background will be a definite asset in performing your company’s tasks.
If given the opportunity to work with your company, I will foster a collaborative atmosphere within the team and contribute to the company’s growth through leadership based on communication and empathy. I will listen to and respect the diverse opinions of team members, using them as a foundation to collaboratively explore better directions. I aspire to be a member who drives synergy for the entire team, transcending individual capabilities.
I hope you will give me the opportunity to prove through action that this commitment is not merely words. As a new employee, I will approach any task with passion and drive, performing responsibly and faithfully, striving to become a talent who grows alongside your company.
