What motivated you to apply for the BGF Retail project internship?

“The Frontline of Customer Service”
BGF Retail, the Korean convenience store chain boasting the largest number of locations nationwide—that was the extent of my knowledge about the company. Setting aside distribution and specialized expertise, convenience stores are the closest thing to daily life, and I believe that’s why I felt such a strong connection to the company. While studying humanities and taking diverse courses, I pondered my career path extensively. Through this process, I sought to test myself through hands-on experience, which led me to engage in various extracurricular activities. Facing diverse situations within these experiences, I concluded that my most specialized skill is crisis management. Combined with my cheerful personality and communication skills, this crisis management ability would give me a competitive edge in the service industry. While service roles vary, I believed customer management and service—where corporate image is shaped and risk levels depend on problem-solving skills—represented the frontline where I could find professional pride and fulfillment.
Driven by a personality that acts swiftly on desires and thrives on challenges, I studied for the customer service consultant certification and pursued various other counseling certifications. Once I obtained the certifications, I realized they were more than just proof on paper; I developed a desire to gain the corresponding experience and utilize my abilities. I also wanted to test how much I could actually contribute in real work situations. I applied for the internship program because I saw it as a great opportunity to fully engage in diverse corporate training, perform tasks while demonstrating my capabilities, and ultimately earn the qualifications to become a member of the company. I aspire to work on the front lines of customer management, where I can become the face of the company and help determine its value. I aim to become a talent aligned with BGF Retail’s vision as it prepares to leap forward as a comprehensive distribution service group targeting 10 trillion won in sales by 2020.

What did your university project experience leave you with?

“Product Marketing External Activities”
During my university years, I engaged in various external activities. I primarily took on roles as a helper, participating in product marketing and contributing to promotions. With my proactive and energetic personality, I enjoy meeting new people and conversing with others, so I chose work that leveraged these strengths. The most memorable project was promoting a new ice cream brand, exploring diverse marketing methodologies, and serving as a helper at the launch event. Five people formed a team and had to fulfill assigned duties according to the launch schedule, and since the assigned tasks changed each time, quick thinking was a crucial skill. While the promotional and marketing work was enjoyable, serving as a helper at the launch event remains my most pleasant memory.
Correctly conveying the product’s image to general consumers attending the launch event and assisting with various booth operations provided valuable experience. It allowed me to meet and communicate with customers directly on-site, reading their needs and behavior patterns.
Since unexpected variables frequently arise at event sites, I prepared by familiarizing myself with various solutions beforehand. I also created a contingency manual for potential accidents, striving to minimize problem-resolution time. Even when minor complaints arose, I understood that customers’ critical scrutiny reflects their stance toward new products. I worked diligently to quickly identify issues and prevent damage to the product’s image. There were long stretches where I had to run around nonstop while maintaining a smile, but the fact that I never felt drained or exhausted made me realize this work suited my aptitude well. Since then, I’ve actively sought out similar roles. This experience heightened my interest in customer management and service roles, inspiring me to pursue various certifications, including becoming a professional customer service consultant. Above all, it remains a proud memory where I discovered my aptitude and realized how much I could shine within it. I believe this experience will continue to serve as a positive driving force for me moving forward.
