In this blog post, I’ll summarize my academic experiences and school activities during high school, examples of my acts of consideration, sharing, and cooperation, and the reasons behind my choice of college and major.

Academic Experiences and Reflections

The thing I felt most strongly while studying was that I was always short on time. The amount of material I needed to cover kept increasing, but the time I could devote to focusing fully was limited, and I also struggled with my concentration waning after studying for long periods. When I cut back on sleep to make more time for studying, my concentration actually dropped, which interfered with my daily life. So, I chose to get enough sleep and use my waking hours efficiently.
I developed a strategy to break up my time into short intervals. I actively utilized my commute, breaks, and brief gaps during class, and I planned in advance exactly how to use that time. For example, during a 10-minute break, I would either revisit a problem I’d gotten stuck on the previous day or tackle a difficult problem, or I’d solve problems that could be reviewed quickly to maintain my focus.
For math problems that I couldn’t solve, I practiced them repeatedly to get familiar with the question types, and for Korean language problems where it was unclear why I got them wrong, I reflected on the reasons and tried solving them again. By using this time to organize the types of problems I got wrong and memorize formulas I didn’t know separately, I was able to reduce the same mistakes.
During my commute, I focused on memorization-based subjects. I broke down the material into small chunks, wrote them down on paper, and carried them with me. I’d recite them while sitting on the subway or sometimes even while walking up and down the stairs. At first, I only used this time when I was seated, but as I gradually started utilizing my commute time as well, I noticed that I was able to memorize things more effectively.
I also learned that effective use of short periods of time requires advance preparation. Every night before going to sleep, I would organize the tasks for the next day and create a schedule. By doing this, I’d already thought through “what to do in that short time” on my way to school, so when that time came, I could use it actively rather than letting it slip away.

Writing About Major School Activities and My Reflections

The school activity I found most meaningful was my involvement in the broadcasting club. I joined the club after someone complimented my voice and appearance, but once I started, I became captivated by the role of an anchor and participated enthusiastically. I found it fascinating to report on school issues and convey the facts whenever something special happened.
The appeal of the broadcasting club lay in the passion of its members. My fellow club members were people who voluntarily arrived earlier than others to practice and strove to perform their assigned tasks to perfection. They found great fulfillment in their attitude of seeing their responsibilities through to the end, even when there weren’t many listeners. Working in that environment, I naturally learned from their passion and began to emulate them.
Through my activities in the broadcasting club, I developed an attitude of proactively reflecting on and making decisions about my own life. Watching my seniors and friends move toward their dreams made me seriously consider what I should pursue and what path I should take. It became a catalyst for me to go beyond simply carrying out assigned tasks and to set my own course.
I also realized that being an anchor requires not only a good voice but also an understanding of various social issues. This is because I could only deliver the script naturally and confidently if I truly understood the content. Our broadcasting club aired a program every weekday morning, covering school issues, school policy updates, and social and national issues that students needed to know about. Although we wrote the scripts together during meetings, my confidence would waver when reading them aloud if I didn’t deeply understand the content.
So I started reading three newspapers every day. Reading the newspapers, I discovered many facts and perspectives I hadn’t known before, and I particularly noticed areas where my understanding of public policy and administration was lacking. As I pondered questions like why some welfare policies are implemented while others are not, and what constraints limit policy implementation, I developed an interest in public policy.

Examples of Compassion, Sharing, and Cooperation, and My Reflections

The diverse stories of students I encountered through my activities in the broadcasting club had a profound impact on me. Listening to the stories of students who submitted their accounts anonymously, I came to understand just how difficult the situations were for those in socially vulnerable positions. It was a shock to me to learn that there were students who, either because they had no parents or faced financial hardship, struggled even to meet their basic needs.
I also realized that students exhibiting problematic behavior had their own stories and emotional wounds. Whenever I read their stories aloud and encountered their situations, I tried to suppress my emotions and deliver them calmly, but there were many times when my voice would tremble. It weighed heavily on my heart to realize that there were students living in completely different worlds, even though we were the same age and attended the same school.
Over the three years I served as the voice of the “Anonymous Corner,” I resolved to continue this work. Although I sometimes heard that it was difficult to carve out time from my studies to participate in the broadcast, it brought me great joy to speak on behalf of others through this work. I strove to convey their voices as truthfully and sincerely as possible.
The greatest lesson I learned from this experience was humility. I used to think that the world I saw was the whole world, but as I encountered diverse stories, I realized that everyone’s circumstances are different. I learned that I should not judge people based solely on appearances and that I must strive to understand their situations. Thanks to this, my perspective has broadened, and my attitude toward others has matured.

Efforts and Preparation Related to Motivation for Application and Career Plans

I chose Anyang University because I wanted to grow. The university’s curriculum and departmental structure gave me the impression that it teaches majors in a more detailed and specialized manner. Unlike broader classifications such as “Public Administration,” “Economics,” or “Business Administration,” I was particularly drawn to the fact that it offers education in the clearly defined field of “Public Administration.” I wanted to build my expertise step by step, starting from the basics, in such an environment.
Through my activities in the broadcasting club and the school newspaper, I developed an interest in social issues and public policy, and as I studied, certain areas emerged that I wanted to understand more deeply. Even the affairs of a small school are complex, so there were limits to understanding the administration of an entire nation through the newspaper alone. In particular, as I began to question policy areas such as public welfare and public works programs, I felt a desire to study in detail why such policies were created and what constraints prevent them from achieving their intended effects.
If admitted to the Department of Public Administration, I hope to systematically study and analyze various social issues along with the questions I’ve long held. I promise not to merely passively attend classes, but to actively engage in learning by asking questions and reflecting deeply. Furthermore, I will continue the volunteer work I’ve been doing to gain hands-on experience—seeing and feeling things firsthand in the field—in addition to acquiring theoretical knowledge.
In the long term, I hope to contribute to understanding public policy and creating policies that genuinely benefit people. By building expertise in my major at university and gaining hands-on experience in the field, I will strive to become a person equipped with the capabilities needed to devise and implement better policies.
