What kind of academic and extracurricular efforts did you put into high school?

In this blog post, I’ll summarize the academic efforts I made during high school, my participation in school activities, and my experiences with consideration and collaboration.

Writing About My Academic Experiences and Reflections

I’ve always viewed studying as fundamentally a “habit.” This is because I believed that grades aren’t determined by a single moment of exceptional ability, but rather by how consistently one studies every day. Therefore, I placed greater importance on my daily study volume and how well I stuck to my plan than on the test results themselves, and I focused on maintaining regularity and habits in my daily routine rather than feeling excessive pressure about exams.
Specifically, I chose to manage my time rigorously. Using a timer I always carried with me, I limited the time spent on each problem and set a rule not to spend more than 8 minutes on any single problem. Since I often found myself letting time slip away without realizing it, I set these time limits for myself to maintain my focus. While solving problems, I kept an eye on the clock and concentrated on finding solutions, which helped me minimize unnecessary time waste.
I also developed the habit of planning my schedule for the next day every night. I carefully drew up a schedule to secure study time in the morning and evening and to fit in short memorization or review sessions during breaks. I wrote down in a table which subjects to study and how, broken down by time slot, and tried to follow that plan exactly. This way, even if I had some spare time, I wouldn’t panic and could continue studying according to my priorities.
Above all, I made an effort to balance a regular routine with taking care of my physical well-being. I aimed to improve my study efficiency through sufficient sleep, appropriate exercise, and proper nutrition, and I learned that the habit of sticking to my plans and managing my time well ultimately had a positive impact not only on my grades but also on my life in general.

Major School Activities and Reflections

From a young age, I valued a regular routine and diligence, so I never arrived late or missed school, and I made sure to complete all my assignments. The healthy habits I inherited from my family—getting enough sleep, eating in moderation, and exercising whenever I had a chance—were a great help in maintaining this attitude. As a result, I earned the trust of my classmates and was naturally recommended to serve as class president and a student council officer.
Through my involvement in the student council and class activities, I deeply felt the weight of responsibility. As class president, I took on the role of setting the class atmosphere, encouraging my classmates, and mediating conflicts between teachers and students. As vice president, I focused on assisting the class president and filling in the gaps they might have overlooked, and I even stepped in to perform the class president’s duties when necessary. I always strove to maintain an atmosphere where everyone felt, “Since the class president is doing a good job, we’re all doing well.”
As treasurer, my duty was to manage finances and documents transparently and thoroughly. When serving as secretary, I made sure to take meticulous meeting minutes and shared information by preparing and distributing summary sheets to classmates who couldn’t attend the meetings. I believed that these detailed efforts, when combined, helped build trust in the entire organization.
Through my activities as an officer, I truly felt the influence of a student representative. Even among fellow students, there was a tendency to pay closer attention to what the class president or other officers said, and teachers often sought to communicate with student representatives as well. This made me realize that a representative must go beyond mere authority to serve as a bridge connecting students and the school. This experience led me to seriously reflect on the mindset that a “leader” should possess.
As a leader, I thought deeply and observed closely what makes a “good person.” Observing the attitudes of the principal, vice principal, various teachers, and my friends, I concluded that people with a “broad-mindedness” and “positive outlook” provide a sense of stability and comfort to those around them. I felt that an attitude that puts people at ease was more important than knowledge or appearance, and as a result, I strove to become a leader who makes people feel comfortable.

Examples of Consideration, Sharing, and Cooperation, and My Reflections

Through my activities in the student council, I naturally became aware of the circumstances of classmates facing financial hardship. I encountered various situations: a classmate who was moving from one relative’s house to another; another who relied solely on school meals; and yet another who struggled to buy school supplies or clothes due to a lack of living expenses. Witnessing these realities, I felt a strong desire to connect them with school-level support and external assistance programs.
We student council officers created a KakaoTalk group chat and began introducing appropriate support programs to classmates in need, helping them access these resources. We shared information with one another and approached the situation with care; to protect their self-esteem, we sometimes met in private or conducted consultations discreetly. By guiding them toward available scholarship programs and support from the Office of Education, we were able to help many classmates receive tangible assistance.
Through this process, I was reminded once again that “sincerity gets through.” I was grateful for the dedication of my friends who participated even though there was no personal benefit, and it was deeply rewarding to see the students who received help welcome us with open arms. I learned that even in sensitive situations where pride might be easily hurt, people will open their hearts if you approach them with genuine care.
This experience deeply instilled in me the values of respect for others and solidarity, and it reinforced my resolve to continue maintaining an attitude of sincerely helping others in the future.
