In this blog post, I will introduce, in order, my academic experiences and school activities in high school, examples of my acts of consideration and generosity, and my motivation for applying to Hansung University along with my career plans.

During my sophomore year of high school, we had a lab session in chemistry where we made natural cosmetics ourselves. Although I leaned toward the humanities, I’ve always been interested in makeup and cosmetics, so I was curious about the manufacturing process. I found this opportunity fascinating, so I volunteered to be the lab leader and actively participated in the preparation.
In the group-based lab, we made natural cosmetics such as virgin coconut oil, coconut lotion, and lip balm. Even without adding any separate fragrances, the products had the subtle, distinctive scent of coconut. During the manufacturing process, we carefully checked the pH to verify how the acidity of the cosmetics affects the skin. Through this process, I learned facts I hadn’t known before and truly realized how chemical knowledge is directly linked to the safety and quality of everyday products.
Furthermore, by observing how natural ingredients are absorbed by the skin without causing irritation and how chemical ingredients bond together, I learned about the necessity and efficacy of natural surfactants. Subsequently, I made natural soap, utilizing the properties of the ingredients to create molds using the melt-and-pour method, and even experienced the process of making cold-process soap.
At first, it was an unfamiliar experience and I felt overwhelmed, but by exchanging ideas with my group members and helping one another, we completed the assignment and ultimately finished with excellent grades. Through this experience, I confirmed that chemistry is widely used in our daily lives, and I learned the importance of cooperation—working together toward a common goal—as well as perseverance.

Major Campus Activities and Reflections

At the school festival, I planned and ran a makeup demonstration booth. Noting that teenagers are very interested in makeup techniques and cosmetics suited to their skin types, I prepared a program offering free demonstrations and personalized makeup coaching.
Since running it alone felt overwhelming, I teamed up with classmates to form a group. We stayed after school for several days to conduct market research, purchase products, and practice the demonstrations. On the day of the festival, more students than expected visited our booth, forming long lines. It was disappointing that we couldn’t meet all the demand due to a shortage of staff.
We focused on enhancing the quality of our coaching by providing personalized recommendations based on each student’s skin type. For example, we recommended light, brightening makeup for students with thin, dry skin, and products with a slightly matte finish for those with oily skin to help minimize their skin concerns. We prioritized increasing satisfaction, even if it took more time.
As a result, we received an overwhelmingly positive response from participants, and by the end of the festival, our booth took first place in the popularity poll. I was delighted by this unexpected achievement, and above all, I felt grateful that it was made possible through collaboration with my friends. Through this experience, I rediscovered the joy of sharing my makeup talents with others, and it reaffirmed my goal to build expertise as a beauty specialist.

Writing About Examples of Consideration, Sharing, and Collaboration, and My Reflections

When I was a sophomore in high school, I read a news article about low-income teenagers who were unable to maintain basic hygiene because they lacked sanitary pads. Deeply moved by their plight, I decided not to stop at mere sympathy but to find a way I could actually help.
At first, I didn’t know which organization to donate to, so I researched various welfare agencies on my own. Eventually, I found an organization that helps teenagers in desperate need of sanitary pads and planned to donate 50,000 won worth of products. However, upon careful reflection, I realized that amount wouldn’t be enough, so I decided to ask my friends to join me.
I made a sign promoting the fundraiser, posted it on the school bulletin board, and persuaded my friends to start the drive. At first, I was worried because there was no response, but as word spread, the number of participants grew, and I was eventually able to raise 300,000 won—more than my original goal of 100,000 won. After personally thanking each friend who contributed to the fundraiser, I delivered the funds to the welfare organization and received words of gratitude from the center’s director.
Through this process, I learned firsthand that small acts of kindness, when combined, can create significant change. I also learned that working together with others and taking consistent action yields more tangible results than acting alone.

Efforts and Preparation Related to Motivation for Application and Career Plans

I believed that the Department of Beauty Design Management at the College of Design, Hansung University, would provide me—as someone aspiring to become a makeup artist—with a systematic understanding of the beauty industry and practical experience. My motivation for applying stemmed from the opportunity to broaden my comprehensive perspective by indirectly engaging with various fields such as hair, fashion, and beauty within the department.
The Korean beauty industry is expanding its influence globally, particularly in Asia, and I aspire to become a makeup artist who incorporates Korean beauty and style while working on the world stage. Inspired by the success stories of makeup artists who share information through audiovisual platforms like YouTube, I have set a goal to create my own beauty content and build a career in this field.
After enrollment, I plan to write a report comparing and analyzing the makeup and cosmetics markets, and I intend to use my school breaks to visit the studios of renowned beauty stylists to benchmark their strengths. I also aim to study the works of various artists and master distinctive makeup techniques tailored to personal color analysis to hone my skills.
Furthermore, I plan to analyze the growth drivers of the beauty industry and, based on this analysis, create and promote my own specialized content on platforms like YouTube. By researching makeup techniques tailored to different situations, occasions, and emotions, and gaining hands-on experience, I will continue to develop my capabilities as a makeup professional.
