Collaborative Experience

“A story about completing a task through negotiation with team members”
During my time in college, majoring in Communication Studies, the activity I engaged in most was undoubtedly ‘communication’. Not only was my major centered around communication, but my peers who worked alongside me also held a strong interest in communication and negotiation. In fact, situations where communication and negotiation are excluded are rare in today’s workplace and social life. Communication and negotiation serve as core competencies not only in sales roles but also across marketing, PR, advertising, and the entire media industry. Ideas that remain solely within oneself are merely like a frog in a well, but ideas refined through communication with others have a high potential to gain social recognition and expand.
In this communication-centered environment, I naturally accumulated experience solving problems through negotiation. Most projects I undertook during my four years of university were based on teamwork and consultation, repeatedly involving the process of sharing thoughts with teammates possessing different personalities and values. When negotiating, I actively employed brainstorming techniques to foster an atmosphere where everyone could freely express ideas. Creative ideas are easily stifled by rigid frameworks and rules, so I strived to create the most open environment possible to avoid disrupting the flow of thought. For instance, when conceptualizing new marketing strategies or launching new brands, I remember establishing a foundation where every team member could proactively contribute ideas.
To enhance the quality of our deliverables, presentation skills were as crucial as negotiation abilities. While presentations are often dominated by one or two eloquent speakers, our team took a different approach. For group presentations, rather than one person leading the entire presentation, each member took turns presenting their assigned section. When additional explanation was needed for a specific part, the person responsible for that section provided expert commentary. Our presentation materials went beyond simple slide lists; we used the latest presentation tools to edit them for visually seamless transitions. By actively involving all team members in everything from material composition to delivery methods, not only did our presentation and negotiation skills improve, but each individual’s ideas also gradually became more refined.
Through this collaborative experience, we realized the importance of the ‘process of creating together,’ beyond merely completing the task. Communication and negotiation transcended mere opinion coordination; they became a driving force that channeled diverse thoughts toward a shared direction and propelled us toward a common goal. These experiences from my university days continue to form the foundation of my teamwork and collaboration skills today.

Achievement Experience

“Theater Club: Taking on the Role of Director”
During my university years, I joined an on-campus theater club called the ‘Rose Theater Troupe’. Initially, I was drawn to the stage as an actor. I was captivated by the actors’ ability to connect with the audience through eye contact, exchange lines, and breathe life into the play. However, when I actually tried acting, it proved far more challenging than I anticipated. While I felt immersed in the character, others found my performance awkward and ill-suited to the role. While deeply disappointed, this experience taught me an important truth: my love for theater didn’t have to be expressed solely through acting.
From that moment, I began contemplating other roles within theater, and my attention naturally turned to the position of ‘director’. A director serves as the bridge connecting actors and the audience, and is the pivotal figure guiding all elements on stage to achieve harmony. Though not standing on stage, they are the central axis that coordinates the overall direction and message of the work, bringing the play to completion. Fascinated by this role, I resolved to pursue the path of directing. Initially, I worked as staff, assisting with stage setup and scene changes. Gradually gaining experience, I also began participating directly in script development. Finally, as a director, I oversaw the final rehearsals and personally led the entire process of bringing a production to the stage.
This experience was a valuable learning journey that went beyond simply mastering directing techniques; it provided a comprehensive understanding of all elements of theater. By personally experiencing the countless efforts and collaborations happening behind the scenes until a play was completed, I truly felt the power of art created when the stage and backstage become one.
The final production I prepared before graduation remains vividly etched in my memory. This play humorously depicted various situations unfolding across society, embedding messages of satire and critique within its narrative. At the time, I co-wrote the script with the playwright in a collaborative writing format, and subsequently prepared the production through a co-director approach. The resulting work received praise from theater professionals for its freshness and structure, and we had the honor of winning an award at a national university theater competition. Furthermore, the play caught the attention of a professional theater production company, leading to the successful signing of a rights contract.
This series of experiences held meaning far beyond mere awards or achievements. The emotion felt on stage, the sweat and hard work behind the scenes, and the collaboration with colleagues creating it together—all these processes became invaluable assets to me and further solidified my resolve to grow into a better director.

Motivation for Application and Relevant Experience

“Diverse media content, especially theater!”
Your company is a comprehensive entertainment group encompassing diverse media content like games, films, broadcasting, music, and performances. Among these, the field I hold a particularly deep affection for is performance, specifically theater. Theater is an art form that transcends simple entertainment, enabling an intense connection with the audience and possessing the power to reinterpret reality on stage. Captivated by this charm of theater, I personally planned and directed performances during my university years. This experience went beyond a mere hobby and became a crucial turning point in determining my career path.
The production I directed won awards at a national theater competition, receiving recognition for its artistic merit and completeness. Furthermore, I successfully sold this production to an external company. This experience not only instilled in me a sense of pride as a creator but also greatly helped me understand the entire production flow, from content planning to production and marketing. More recently, I volunteered at the Seoul Youth Festival, continuing my work by planning and staging a one-act play. This short play compressed the essence of youth into a format that drew audience empathy through a cinematic script.
A particularly noteworthy aspect of this project was featuring a ‘virtual actor’ as the protagonist—a character existing solely in media, not a real actor. This virtual actor was a digital character rendered in 3D graphics, with a team member majoring in design and graphics handling the character’s movements and acting. Our team created a highly polished piece of content by giving this character actions and dialogue. Throughout this process, rather than rigidly separating roles, we operated the project through constant discussion and collaboration among planners, producers, and editors. By respecting and developing each other’s ideas, we truly experienced the meaning of collaboration.
As a result, I actively participated in the entire process—from scenario conception to video editing and stage direction—and created a high-quality final product with my teammates. I am confident this experience will be a significant asset when producing diverse content for your company in the future. Driven by my passion for theater, creative ideas, and a strong sense of responsibility toward collaboration, I am eager to plan and present new forms of stage content at your company. Amidst the evolving media landscape, I aspire to consistently experiment, challenge myself, and create vibrant content that connects with audiences.

Post-Hire Goals and Plans

“Prepared Talent, Prepared Company”
CJ E&M is a leading company in diverse entertainment businesses such as games, films, and media, continuously innovating at the heart of the content industry. I have long harbored the dream of working here, and that dream has solidified into a concrete goal. My interest and passion for CJ E&M deepened significantly while broadening my understanding of the media industry through major courses and team projects at Sogang University’s Department of Communication. Hearing about your company’s culture and business vision from friends in my department study group convinced me that CJ is more than just a large corporation—it is an ‘ideal workplace’ where the younger generation can work with dreams and passion. Among peers preparing for employment, CJ was consistently mentioned as a ‘company I want to work for,’ and within CJ, the E&M division was the most coveted field for those passionate about the content industry. Within this context, I naturally decided to wholeheartedly pursue a challenge in CJ E&M’s media industry sector, specifically the Management Support division.
Because it is the company I have long dreamed of joining, I intend to approach my work with more passion than anyone else after joining. I am aware that the initial phase of the Management Support team involves an internship, and I have already gained relevant experience through a broadcasting station internship. Based on that experience, I can confidently state that I am prepared to adapt quickly within the organization and make tangible contributions. I always approach my work with a sense of responsibility and maintain an attitude of actively learning and improving where I fall short. Furthermore, during my university years, I gained hands-on experience planning and producing media content, which I believe has equipped me with a practical understanding and sensibility for the entertainment industry. My strength lies in analyzing situations based on strategic thinking and possessing the drive to translate insights into action. I will continuously learn and grow to become a talent who positively impacts not just my assigned tasks, but the entire team and organization.
Moving forward, as a member of CJ E&M, I aspire to respond flexibly within the evolving media landscape and play a meaningful role in the constantly advancing content industry. As a ‘prepared talent’ growing alongside a ‘prepared company,’ I hope to contribute to the values and future CJ E&M strives to achieve.
