Growth Process
“A harmonious family leads to success in all things”
My father placed the utmost importance on family harmony. Though my father, who frequently worked overseas, was often unavailable due to late nights and overnight shifts, he always made time for family outings. Even amidst his busy schedule, he planned monthly weekend trips—whether a picnic nearby or a short getaway. Though he was often called back to the office mid-trip, he never skipped our family outings. Even if it meant just an hour together, he prioritized those weekends.
My father believed that working hard at the company was precisely to protect his family. He felt that only when the family was happy did the company and his work hold meaning, which is why our family possesses an extraordinary bond.
He was always kind and considerate to my sister and me, yet strict when it came to correcting bad habits or problems. During my school days, I loved reading books so much that I often got late for meals while engrossed in them. Because Father was so busy, it was rare for the whole family to eat together. So, whenever Father was home, the whole family eating together became our family promise. Often, I’d get caught up in a book thinking, ‘Just a little more, just a little more,’ and show up late to the table, earning a stern scolding from Father.
He told me, ‘If you take family promises lightly, you’ll easily take promises with others outside the family lightly too. ‘Even small promises are promises. Make sure you keep them strictly,’ he would say. After that, I became very strict about keeping appointment times.
My mother, who supported our busy father well, always taught me to greet people properly. Meeting neighbors, I made it a habit to greet them first, and I ended up greeting everyone I met first. Wherever I go, I often hear that I’m very friendly.
Thanks to my father, who was busy yet family-oriented and always tried to make us sisters laugh like a comedian, and my mother, who understood him and warmly stood by his side, I grew up receiving ample love. Influenced so much by my parents, I grew into a person who is polite to others and full of love.
Personality Strengths and Weaknesses
“An Icon of Tolerance and Positivity”
I have a personality that embraces people because I am full of love. From my mother, who was always my father’s steadfast support while he was busy with work, I learned patience and tolerance. She taught me to always greet people first, and even if they didn’t return the greeting, not to hold it against them, but to focus on showing my own courtesy. Because of this, I grew up receiving compliments from the neighborhood elders about my cheerful greetings, and my friends often tell me I’m like an older sister.
I have a bright personality, always smiling and positive. I inherited my cheerful and approachable nature from my father, who was always brimming with confidence. No matter how difficult or exhausting a situation gets, I tend to shake it off quickly and think positively. Just as the saying goes, “You can’t spit in someone’s face when they’re smiling,” I believe that if I smile first when interacting with people, they are more likely to smile back. Therefore, I always strive to greet people with a smile.
My excellent adaptability and meticulous work ethic are also strengths. Even in unfamiliar places, I tend to feel anticipation rather than nervousness, so I actively engage with my surroundings, making me highly adaptable. I learn new tasks quickly, and once I understand them, I always complete them meticulously and perfectly without mistakes.
My weakness is that I’m simple-minded. Because I’m simple, I tend to forget things easily, whether they’re good or bad. While my friends might struggle for days, I tend to let things go quickly, often to the point where they feel hurt because I don’t hold grudges. This can be a strength, but it also becomes a weakness when I brush off serious issues too easily, leaving friends disappointed. Although I try to forget unpleasant things quickly, I also make an effort to consider others’ feelings and resolve any hurt they might feel.
School Life and Studying Abroad
“Growing up on Japanese animation.”
I’ve loved Studio Ghibli animations since childhood, and watching them sparked my interest in Japanese. In high school, I started self-studying Japanese by watching Japanese dramas. Since Japanese was my second foreign language in high school, I’d ask my Japanese teacher about anything I found curious while watching dramas, making the study increasingly enjoyable. That’s why I majored in Japanese Literature in university.
In the Japanese Literature department, I joined the Japanese Drama Club within the department. Through the Japanese dramas I had enjoyed since high school, I deepened my study of Japanese conversation. In high school, I could only understand the meaning by looking at the subtitles. However, through club activities, I became familiar with modern Japanese terms, and studying while learning grammar and vocabulary greatly enhanced my understanding of the dramas.
In the club, we selected one drama at a time with the seniors and studied in a study group format. I received a lot of help from the seniors, especially those who had studied language in Japan, which greatly aided my understanding of Japanese culture. So, when I became a senior myself, I enthusiastically taught Japanese to the juniors and enjoyed studying together.
After graduation, I went to Tokyo to study abroad for a year, focusing solely on language. My goal wasn’t to plan for another vocational school, but to fully internalize what I had studied domestically by living and studying there for a year. They say Japanese becomes more difficult the more you learn it, and indeed, the deeper I studied, the more I felt it inevitably required an academic approach. I mastered Japanese to a level where I felt confident enough for daily life and external business, and then returned home. The time spent away from my family was a precious period where I cultivated self-reliance and broadened my perspective on the world.
