This blog post explores how to effectively incorporate your law firm work experience into your resume and emphasize trustworthiness and professionalism through it.
Growth Process
“Use your power not for punishment or condemnation, but as a means of protection and love.”
Growing up as the eldest daughter, I naturally assumed the responsibility of caring for my younger siblings and the accompanying authority. My parents repeatedly instilled in me the virtues that a person of influence must possess. My innate personality was generally bold, and I never hesitated to stand before people. Consequently, I often naturally took on representative or leadership roles not only as an older sister but also within various communities I belonged to. I enjoyed being in the spotlight, willingly shouldered the accompanying responsibilities and roles, and was accustomed to clearly expressing my opinions. To me, my parents’ advice sometimes felt like it was holding my hands and feet back. Yet they always emphasized: “Leadership isn’t merely the ability to lead from the front; it’s the power to embrace others, show consideration, and move forward together.”
My parents always said that strong power should not be used merely to maintain order or punish wrongdoing, but to protect someone and help the community function more harmoniously. Yet, as a child, I didn’t deeply grasp the true meaning of those words. I believed it was right for me to set the direction so people could reach a more ideal conclusion, and if necessary, to raise my voice louder. That belief sometimes made me an overbearing leader, and I learned the hard way that no matter how rational and logical my arguments were, they were meaningless if I couldn’t win people over.
One particular day, I pushed too hard in what I thought was the right direction and ended up alienating the members. At the time, I thought I was simply striving for a better outcome, but the result was that I failed to earn the community’s trust, and the teamwork centered around me fell apart. That incident made me keenly realize that insight into the world or sound judgment alone is not enough to become a true leader. Equally important to the ability to point in the right direction is the ability to touch people’s hearts and provide emotional support so they can walk alongside you.
Since then, I’ve reconsidered the nature of ‘leading power.’ I realized leadership must never be exercised through commands or control; it must stem from a warm character and genuine sincerity that others can trust and follow. Listening to others’ opinions, stepping back when necessary, and walking together toward a direction that satisfies everyone—that is the true posture of a leader, something I’m learning through my growth process. Today, I continue to build upon that learning and grow.
School Days
During my school years, I always took the lead, spoke up, and naturally assumed the role of guiding those around me. Whether organizing gatherings with friends or deciding meeting places, I took charge. I also served as both class president and student council president, demonstrating my presence as a leader. These experiences equipped me with a level of initiative and influence that made the word ‘charisma’ seem fitting, laying the foundation for earning the trust and support of those around me. However, I also realized early on that simply insisting on choices I believed to be right was insufficient to fully fulfill my role as a leader. For a choice to be convincing to others, it required not only rational judgment but also emotional connection and trust.
Through this process, I began to gradually soften the sharp edges of my attitude. Rather than simply speaking loudly, I worked to blend naturally into the group, ensuring my opinions were conveyed as persuasion, not noise. In doing so, I realized that as a representative leading a group, my responsibility extended beyond merely finding the right direction. Providing a sense of stability to those who cherished and supported me was equally important. Driven by gratitude and a sense of duty toward them, I constantly strived to strengthen their trust in me. As a result, I was able to stand on a much firmer foundation as a leader. Ultimately, it was because of those who lifted me up that I could project my voice from a higher place and reach farther.
In my role as CEO, I always approached my responsibilities proactively. Rather than focusing on blaming others or debating right and wrong, I sought to open future possibilities based on forgiveness and trust. This aimed for leadership grounded in long-term trust and mutual respect, not short-term control, ultimately making communication with people deeper and more flexible. My leadership style is not about unilaterally driving others forward, but rather about willingly extending a hand when someone chooses to walk alongside me. I believe this path is the true direction a leader should take.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
I have always aspired to lead from the front, ahead of others, and thus maintain a strict self-discipline. When moving forward in harmony with others, my minor flaws or mistakes may be obscured by the collective gaze. However, I am acutely aware that when in a leading position, even the smallest blemish on my back can easily become visible and subject to gossip. Therefore, I constantly strive to reflect on myself and maintain a composed demeanor and unwavering posture. I believe that the more one leads a group, the more they must demonstrate exceptional capability based on thorough self-management and a high sense of responsibility. I have personally experienced that an upright attitude directly translates into charisma that captivates people, and this belief has been the driving force behind my growth into a more mature and generous leader.
In my childhood, I naturally learned that to properly fulfill my role as an older sister in front of my younger siblings, I needed the maturity to step back and coordinate situations—even if it meant temporarily setting aside my own interests—rather than indulging in childish behavior alongside them. This attitude cultivated in me a voluntary self-discipline and inclusiveness that remains deeply ingrained in my daily life to this day. While others advise me to relax and be more comfortable around close friends, I hold the conviction that I must never let my guard down at any moment. Knowing that daily habits can carry over into work situations, I strive to constantly discipline myself and maintain a focused, unwavering stance. While maintaining this tension can sometimes be tiring, I believe it is the surest way to achieve stable results and earn trust.
Life Philosophy
The direction in which I channel the power given to me is solely my choice. Electricity is an indispensable element in our daily lives. Just a few minutes of power outage can cause significant inconvenience, proving its necessity. Yet when that electricity touches our bodies directly, it can transform into an energy so powerful it threatens life itself. Just like this, any force can become a source that enriches people’s lives, or conversely, a poison that destroys life entirely. Ultimately, what matters is not the energy itself, but the ‘direction’ in which that power is guided. To harness the forces of nature for humanity’s benefit, human control is indispensable. Thus, human judgment and responsible stewardship wield greater power than any raw energy source.
Powerful energy or authority inherently possesses no moral attribute. Its application, the hands it is wielded by, and the intent behind its use determine entirely different outcomes. Therefore, those in positions directly wielding influence over the world require even stricter self-discipline and must possess the virtue of prioritizing society with an altruistic perspective. Above all, it is crucial to constantly reflect on one’s actions with an objective eye and to continuously self-examine to prevent drifting in the wrong direction.
Based on this conviction, I strive to always guide any power entrusted to me in the right direction. I believe this is the fundamental attitude that sustains my life healthily and acts as positive energy in both my own and others’ lives. More important than mere skills or knowledge is the attitude of the person wielding them; I strive never to forget that the value of life ultimately depends on the direction in which I channel my efforts.
Career History
After beginning my career at ○○ Law Firm, I transitioned to ○○○ Company to gain broader practical experience. There, I worked for approximately three years in a department dedicated to legal counsel, providing practical advice and solutions for various internal corporate legal issues. My responsibilities included contract review and drafting, legal risk management for dispute prevention, and providing legal support through collaboration with relevant departments. This cultivated my hands-on expertise and problem-solving abilities. This experience has laid the foundation for flexibly handling increasingly complex and diverse legal matters in the future.
Motivation for Joining and Aspirations
I have always believed that those who wield power related to the order governing the world must set its direction to ensure it is used rightly, constantly reflect on this purpose, and approach their duties with a sense of responsibility. This conviction stems not merely from my experience as a leader or mentor within groups, but crystallized more fundamentally as I began to take an interest in the powerful social order system that is ‘law’.
From that moment, I deeply understood the imperative that ‘power’ must be wielded through just and benevolent intent. I was profoundly drawn to your company’s philosophy of clearly defining and practicing these standards and direction, which motivated my application.
Should I be granted the opportunity to fulfill my role at your company, I will strive above all to constantly reflect on myself, check my direction, and keep my mindset aligned. Power, whatever form it takes, possesses a dual nature: it can be used to help people, yet it can also cause harm. Therefore, I believe those who wield it must always approach it with a cautious and serious attitude. Just as someone who has mastered the use of a powerful weapon must constantly check where its tip is pointing and be careful not to misuse it, I too will never lose the attitude of constantly examining whether my thoughts and actions are pointing in the right direction. Through constant self-reflection and a steadfast mindset, I will strive to become a member who aligns with your company’s values.
