What kind of ‘traces of choice’ would an insurance company HR manager want to see?

In this blog post, we explore the ‘traces of choice’ that insurance company HR managers look for in cover letters and how to effectively convey their significance.

Growth Process

As a child, I was particularly drawn to dramas and movies that explored how today’s choices profoundly impact future outcomes. The idea that life contains countless branching points, each opening entirely different paths, and that our chosen route can unfold a completely different future always left a strong impression on me. Because of this, I naturally developed an attitude of approaching every decision with greater caution and thoughtfulness. Even if it doesn’t lead to massive consequences like the ‘butterfly effect,’ imagining that a single choice I made carelessly could impact another person’s life and ultimately create change in the entire world made me feel the potential within me. Of course, some people say that no matter which path a person chooses, they are ultimately just beings moving within the framework of a predetermined fate.
Yet despite such views, I never relinquished my belief in the changes my own choices could create. Through survival books where you choose multiple options like a psychological test to determine the protagonist’s fate, or dating simulation games where dialogue and actions unfold various endings, I gradually began to visualize the concept ‘today’s choices lead to tomorrow’s story’ in ever more concrete terms.
Of course, the stories within games often featured exaggerated or unrealistic developments. Yet thoughts like “What ending would have unfolded if I’d reacted differently in this scene?” or “Could that choice I casually passed over have been a crucial turning point in life?” always sparked fresh imagination and fascination within me. Sometimes, I imagined that the opportunities I missed in life might actually stem from small choices made in the past, sketching out the world’s complex web of cause and effect. Such imaginings went beyond mere amusement; they positively influenced me, helping me view my life more calmly and proactively.
Ultimately, these experiences naturally made me recognize the weight of ‘choice’ and prompted deeper reflection on my daily judgments and actions. The story of how a single small choice can alter the course of one’s life remains an important life message that still moves me today. And that message continues to guide me today, encouraging me to deliberate more and seek a better direction when choosing which path to take.

School Days

During the time when the world around me was gradually expanding, I enjoyed not only making my own personal choices but also attributing their own causes and destinies to my friends’ words and actions, imagining how they might connect to the future. Especially during my school days, many friends were deeply immersed in stories of fated romances or fairy-tale-like narratives. They loved stories where foreshadowing and plot twists connected like in an internet novel, leading to a fated encounter with a prince on a white horse. Being more realistic, I preferred straightforward endings like ‘but nothing happened’. Yet, seeing friends take situations seriously—like an eraser dropped by one falling into a boy’s hands—made me feel oddly pleased. It was as if my own fatalistic view that ‘the world is governed by cause and effect’ was being validated.
Yet, stories where a happy ending was determined purely by chance, without any effort, felt excessively romantic and unrealistic to me. So I always tried to stay grounded and do my best, making sure I didn’t get carried away by the unrealistic imagination of dramas or movies and become complacent about reality. Because I believed that when the small efforts I scattered like puzzle pieces finally clicked into place, the tracks of opportunity would finally be laid out before me. That belief provided me with a positive perspective, preventing me from viewing even an ordinary, uneventful day as simple or boring. Instead, I saw it as a day where anything could be possible. I often reflected on the possibility that the small choices and actions of a day seemingly devoid of events could become foreshadowing leading to significant events later on.
Looking back now, I think that mindset allowed me to embrace my school days with a bit more meaning. Back then, I lived with an awareness that I was opening my heart to stories yet to unfold, actively writing them myself. Perhaps that’s why I filled each day more carefully and diligently.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality

“Today’s diligence shapes tomorrow’s me”
I always strive to give my best in everything and live each day with diligence. This goes beyond a simple personality trait; it’s also a small promise I’ve made to myself. I believe that if I diligently move forward today and stack one more block, tomorrow’s me will have less to carry and can focus on work more comfortably. At first glance, it might not seem like a huge effort, but I firmly believe that even small, daily efforts, when consistently accumulated, can become a significant strength.
This way of thinking is similar to stacking sand. Sand slipping through your fingers might seem meaningless and weightless at first glance. Yet few recognize the value of the tiny grains of gold mixed within that sand. I want to carefully gather each seemingly insignificant grain to build the foundation of my life. And I believe that foundation will one day become the turning point that changes the direction of my life. Finding meaning in the trivialities everyone else overlooks, and steadily building them into my life—I believe this is my greatest strength.
Thus, I find deep significance even in small events or ordinary days, often asking myself if I might be wasting my life. Perhaps because of this, people around me sometimes say, “Aren’t you living too rigidly?” But I’m the kind of person who only feels at ease when I’ve lived each day with enough dedication to satisfy myself. To some, this might seem overly thorough or stubborn, but I believe this very attitude is why I’m trusted. I want to continue living faithfully and consistently, meeting both my own and others’ expectations, just as I do now.

Life Philosophy

I believe each person’s life can become special depending on their own mindset. We often look back on our own lives, devoid of the grand or dramatic events of movie protagonists, and feel down, wondering, ‘Why am I the only one living such an ordinary, boring life?’ But unless it’s a meticulously crafted narrative designed to move us like a movie or drama, most lives inevitably consist of far more ordinary, quiet moments than dramatic ones.
That’s why I believe making ordinary moments special doesn’t come from external stimuli or grand events, but begins with the ‘attitude of the heart’—the desire to find meaning within them. The power to capture slightly different feelings from yesterday, subtle changes easy to overlook, or small yet decisive turning points within familiar routines depends entirely on one’s own mindset. I look at each day through this lens, always keeping my heart open to find the hidden specialness in life, much like searching for a hidden picture.
Thanks to this, my life may appear quiet and monotonous on the outside, but internally, it is becoming a journey rich with emotion and meaning. Today, I continue to hone my own unique sensibilities—to cultivate the discernment needed to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary, and to view my life with greater depth and color. This practice of making everyday moments special through my own mindset has ultimately become the most solid life principle, filling my existence with greater fulfillment.

Motivation for Application and Aspirations After Joining

At every crossroads in life, I have strived to make the best possible choices, dreaming that these accumulated decisions would steer my life toward a better direction. Especially through my exposure to insurance and financial products, I deeply realized that there are truly diverse possibilities and strategies for preparing for one’s future. Among these, your company has made a deep impression on me as an organization focused on providing customized products optimized for each customer’s individual needs. I was drawn to the fact that you propose new futures through designs tailored to an individual’s life and circumstances, rather than offering standardized services.
If I am given the opportunity to work with your company, I will fulfill the role of a true helper, enabling customers to make choices for a better future. Life is composed of countless turning points, but not every path leads to a favorable outcome. Therefore, I believe people must discern the direction best suited to their own lives and possess the wisdom to make investments, even accepting small sacrifices in the present for the sake of long-term gains, to truly build future happiness. Life possesses a complex structure where the principle of ‘equivalent exchange’ for balancing forces operates throughout. It is my conviction that a stable future achieved without any preparation or sacrifice is nearly impossible.
Based on this conviction, I aim to deeply empathize with each client’s situation and act as a partner who goes beyond simply selling products to jointly contemplate and design life’s direction. I am confident that together with your company, we can realize this value.
