My One&Only (Distinctive Competitive Edge: Job Competencies, Qualifications, etc.)

“Keen Perception Skills Hone by Diverse Life Experiences!”
Growing up in modest circumstances, and above all, driven by a strong desire to take responsibility for my own life, I began various part-time jobs from a young age. In middle school, I distributed flyers and worked at PC cafes and bookstores, learning the basics of working life. After entering high school, I gained experience in more diverse roles, such as promotional work at department stores and perfume sampling at outlet stores. Working in these various environments allowed me to earn my own living expenses and, crucially, develop the important skill of ‘intuition’.
I realized that success in the working world isn’t just about doing your job well; harmonizing with others in relationships is paramount. Understanding what others want and meeting those expectations was the fastest way to build trust. The era where everyone recognized your efforts just because you worked hard is long gone. Instead, the ability to read others’ minds first and act accordingly is far more important. I was able to quickly master that sense, or ‘intuition,’ and it became a major strength of mine.
While working part-time, mothers often showed me affection. When other friends received one rice cake, I got two, and I was praised for learning tasks faster than anyone else. I frequently heard, “You have a pretty smile, but your intuition is sharp, and you know how to consider others well.” Those words became a major motivator for me, leading to the resolution: ‘I must develop this ability further.’ That’s how I began seriously contemplating a career path that suited me, and I set my heart on the profession of ‘secretary’ – a role that involves attentively observing people and working with meticulous care.
Since then, I haven’t stopped at merely changing my mindset; I’ve consistently strived to grow not only physically and mentally, but also intellectually. The keen awareness skills I honed through diverse social experiences are not mere tricks, but my unique strengths born from genuine care for people and deep empathy. Building on this experience, I am now growing into a talent with enhanced communication skills and work management capabilities. I am confident that with this special competitive edge, I can become an indispensable asset to any organization.

Growth Process

“Parents Who Taught Me Perseverance”
As a child, I was active and loved to play. Seeing this, my parents worried a lot. My mother, in particular, seemed to think I needed focus and patience. One day, she began teaching me how to cook. It wasn’t just simple side dishes or soups; she had me prepare foods requiring significant time and dedication, from ingredient preparation to fermentation, like making fermented sauces or kimchi. At first, she taught me beside me, but later, she entrusted me with completing the cooking on my own.
At first, it felt frustrating and uncomfortable to stay alone in the kitchen while my peers played freely. But over time, cooking gradually transformed me. The process of preparing each ingredient and waiting for the fermentation period calmed my mind. When I encountered the deep flavor and the fruits of my labor emanating from the finished dish, I felt profoundly moved. In each of those moments, I realized I was learning more than just cooking—I was learning an attitude toward life. By mastering both Korean and Western cuisine, I naturally cultivated the virtue of perseverance.
Since then, perseverance has always played a vital role in my life. Whether working part-time or navigating difficult periods while juggling studies, I believe it was the patience cultivated through cooking that allowed me to persevere and see things through to the end. Especially after tough weekend shifts, fatigue would linger into Monday or Tuesday, but the belief that enduring that time would eventually be rewarded kept me going.
I am confident that whatever I undertake in the future, no matter how difficult or time-consuming, I will see it through to the end. I believe the experiences I’ve steadily accumulated since childhood and the perseverance I learned from my parents will form my solid foundation. The patience and dedication I learned through cooking have shaped who I am today and will be my greatest asset guiding me forward.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality

“Unexpectedly Resilient”
Due to my petite frame and feminine appearance, people often assume I’m fragile upon first meeting me. However, after just a little conversation, they are frequently surprised to discover I possess unexpectedly strong resilience. From a young age, I gained a sense of social life and built resilience through various part-time jobs. One clear lesson I learned during this time was ‘don’t let others sway you; just quietly do your own work.’ So, once I start something, I focus until it’s finished and don’t give up easily midway.
One example was during college club activities when we prepared a performance for Chinese exchange students. But right before the show, a sudden problem arose: the speakers broke down. My friends around me reacted with, “Let’s do it again next time,” or “It wasn’t a scheduled performance anyway, so let’s just skip it.” But I wanted to see it through to the end. Ultimately, I used Bluetooth to send music to my friends’ phones and played them simultaneously to combine the sound. I also improvised a makeshift speaker by amplifying the sound using nearby objects. It was impromptu, but we managed to finish the performance successfully. After that incident, I became known in the club as the ‘persistent one’.
This shows that once I start something, I take responsibility and push through to the end. If there’s a downside, it’s that this tenacity can sometimes come across as stubbornness. Fortunately, I’m fairly perceptive and try to coordinate with others to maintain balance. However, I always recognize that my stubbornness can negatively impact situations depending on the context, and I strive to be mindful of this. Ultimately, I strive to remember that what truly matters is maintaining one’s own principles while also knowing how to achieve harmony with others.

Life Motto

“It’s not a stumbling block, but a stepping stone.”
While not life-altering crises, most of the obstacles I’ve faced have actually become stepping stones. Due to my family’s difficult circumstances, I had to work part-time jobs since my school days. That experience taught me far more than just how to make ends meet. I realized I possessed the ability to quickly grasp people’s needs and act accordingly, which later played a crucial role in shaping the direction of my dreams. The sense of reality I gained by entering society earlier than my peers continues to be the foundation of my life today.
On the other hand, I also faced difficulties in my relationships with friends at school. Buried in part-time work, I often couldn’t keep promises to friends, leading to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. However, this situation prompted me to honestly share my family circumstances, and ironically, it deepened our mutual understanding and brought us closer together. Experiencing moments of genuine connection through minor conflicts taught me that in relationships too, ‘stumbling blocks can become stepping stones’.
During my office part-time job, I was once scolded for my lack of English proficiency. That feeling of shame and hurt became the catalyst for me to enroll in an English academy. I studied step by step, starting from the basics, and eventually completed the advanced courses. While it might seem trivial to some, it was a valuable experience for me that simultaneously boosted my self-esteem and improved my skills.
Looking back, I don’t think there has ever been a true stumbling block in my life. Every situation became an opportunity for growth, each one a stepping stone that shaped who I am today. No matter what challenges life throws my way in the future, I aspire to be someone who steadfastly steps over them rather than avoiding or fearing them. A life that turns stumbling blocks into stepping stones—that is the attitude I strive for and the life philosophy I intend to uphold.

Self-Development

“Learning Communication Skills and Table Manners”
After deciding to become a secretary, the first thing I started was learning communication skills. I was aware that I tended to speak quickly and hastily, so I felt it was necessary to learn how to speak calmly and coherently. I began taking classes to correct everything from my voice tone to my speech patterns, striving to develop proper delivery and stable expression. During class, I focused intensely on my speaking style, correcting it repeatedly. Sometimes I concentrated so hard my head ached, or struggled with breath control until I was out of breath, but I never let go of my goal: ‘I will become a secretary.’ Thanks to that, I persevered and completed the course, faithfully finishing the speech training program.
Alongside this, I also learned table manners. Truthfully, I didn’t grow up in a privileged household, so I had never formally dined at a proper table or learned how to show consideration for others during meals. That’s why I was determined to learn the basics step by step. Though it felt unfamiliar and awkward at first, I gradually became accustomed to it. As a result, I mastered various table manners for Western, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine, and my demeanor at the table matured significantly.
If there is anything more to learn in the future, I will always be willing to learn and make the effort. I believe that if I continue to build upon each step diligently, as I have done until now, I will ultimately reach my desired goals. Self-development is a journey that never ends, and on that path, I always strive to be a prepared person.
