How to effectively convey a realistic attitude in an administrative job application essay?

This blog post introduces how to effectively convey the responsibility and diligence suited for administrative roles in your application essay, based on an attitude that prioritizes reality over ideals and consistent practice.

My Growth Process

As a child, I was always a diligent kid who believed in the power of effort to overcome any situation. Although my parents were constantly busy working to support me and my younger sibling, I learned to let go of any unconditional longing for the affluent environment I wasn’t born into. Instead, I cultivated a mindset of finding and pursuing happiness that could blossom even amidst those circumstances, always feeling content and grateful for my daily life. Even if life offered no four-leaf clover luck, I always held onto a simple contentment, ensuring I never overlooked the happiness symbolized by the three-leaf clover. It was a time when I would explain and persuade my younger sibling, who sometimes complained about our inability to buy toys or game consoles as easily as other kids, about how tremendous a blessing it was to attend school and enjoy a peaceful daily life. In doing so, I also steadied my own heart.
Because we couldn’t freely order expensive takeout or dine out, I learned to deeply savor those rare moments when we did, cherishing them all the more. This made me want to give my own child such everyday happiness when I became an adult. Despite our modest circumstances, my parents chose to have me and my younger sibling because they wanted to meet us. They sometimes felt guilty, wondering if it might have been selfish of them. Yet I always held the thought: ‘Thank you for bringing me into this world.’ Rather than giving up before even starting because life seemed harsh and uneven, I resolved to move forward step by step, believing in the achievements I could build and the results I could accomplish ‘despite everything’. My heart was always filled with excitement and anticipation. Even if I wasn’t born with much, I recognized and was conscious of the boundless potential that could go anywhere, and that’s why I held onto hope.

School Days

It was a time when I devoted myself earnestly to finding a path that would allow me to achieve something in life and lighten my parents’ burdens. While I held hope of finding a path perfectly suited to my innate aptitudes and realizing my life’s dreams, my foundation was somewhat narrow to pursue my ideals unconditionally while ignoring reality. Therefore, I believed I needed to possess a certain maturity—the ability to step back somewhat if it promised a more prosperous environment for my family. It wasn’t just about fulfilling my own dreams; I couldn’t make a unilateral decision when I thought of the faces of my family, with whom I would spend the rest of my life. This was especially true when I thought of my parents, who had struggled even harder after having me and my younger sibling.
Therefore, even though I had shown some promise in the arts and physical education, I believed it was better to act decisively rather than waste time being pulled this way and that by misguided hopes. I could compromise and find more realistic solutions without leaving any regrets. It was also comforting to think about how few people truly achieve the dreams they deeply desire and long for. If humanity existed in a primordial state, free from any obligations or burdens, it might be different. But over the long course of development, the weight of shared responsibilities—destiny, society, and so forth—has grown immensely. I believe that as a member of society who must fulfill their role, one needs the prudence to consider their position and make judicious decisions. This provided a foundation that allowed me to consider life more seriously and earnestly.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality

I am a cautious person who first recognizes the duties and responsibilities I must bear and then acts accordingly. I believe that before emphasizing one’s inherent rights or freedoms, one must first fulfill the obligations necessary to realize them. Therefore, I tend to focus more on what I must do rather than seeking out and prioritizing the benefits I can enjoy. To claim my rights, I must first earn the qualifications to do so, and until I reach that position, I want to give my utmost effort. As a child, I could have clung to my parents and acted spoiled, using my immaturity as an excuse. However, as the eldest son and the firstborn in the family, I became acutely aware of my duty to contribute. I worked tirelessly to avoid adding to the burden on my parents, who already struggled daily.
This sometimes drew advice from those around me, wondering if I wasn’t just too busy pushing myself too hard. I knew that to maintain vitality and focus on work, I needed to cycle through enjoying appropriate rights and freedoms, resting, and then diving into the next task. Yet, whenever I heard that I was too busy pushing myself to get things done and neglecting that cycle, I would pause, reflect, and take heed.

Life Philosophy

I believe happiness can be found even amidst compromise and patience. Influenced by media and creative outlets, we often forget the weight of reality, easily falling into the prejudice that only throwing ourselves into freedom and wandering can lead to finding our true selves and leaping toward a brilliant future. Yet, our actual lives, lived in the real world, are somewhat detached from that ideal. Even within the repetitive grind of daily life, moments abound where we can meet cherished people and share affection, smile at small strokes of luck, feel gratitude for gifts we give ourselves, delight in cultural experiences, and laugh heartily. That is, as long as we don’t undervalue these moments as worthless or insignificant.
Since each person’s happiness depends entirely on how they perceive, conceptualize, and assign value to it, I strive to approach everything positively, seeking out the happiness hidden like three-leaf clovers in every corner of my daily life.

Reasons for Applying and Future Aspirations

Growing up, my family circumstances were somewhat difficult. Yet, I always made a conscious effort to focus on the small joys and pleasures found in everyday life. This helped me avoid becoming consumed by the darker aspects of life and instead strive to seek out the brighter light. Just as the same cup of water can evoke different reactions depending on whether one sees it as ‘half empty’ or ‘half full,’ I have always sought out those special moments within the repetitive reality of daily life. I believe this aligns with your company’s mission to add a little luster to people’s lives and provide the drive to live more diligently, which is why I am applying.
If given the opportunity to work with your company, I intend to focus less on the immediate negative aspects of the job that may be difficult to endure, and instead, I will concentrate more on the many things I can gain, steadily building my capabilities. This stems from my determination to move forward by immersing myself in steadily climbing the ladder of consistent growth, taking moment by moment to adapt, rather than rushing to stand out and build a track record in a short time.
