Growth Process and Personality Strengths & Weaknesses

“Life is full of twists and turns!”
I believe life is a series of ‘twists’. Perhaps it seems silly for a young person like me to discuss life itself. However, I have lived fiercely in my own way up to now, and through countless unexpected moments along the way, I realized early on that ‘nothing in life is certain’. The first time I had this thought was when I experienced my grandmother’s death as a child.
Grandma had devotedly cared for Grandpa, who had been bedridden for a long time, for eight years. She never once complained of fatigue or hardship, silently staying by his side, inspiring deep emotion and respect in all of us. Yet, on the very day Grandpa miraculously regained consciousness, Grandma, who had been in good health, suddenly passed away from a heart attack. Through that shocking reversal, I learned with my whole being that life does not flow only in the direction I expect, and that nothing should be rashly concluded.
Perhaps because of this experience, I have always tried not to judge or make hasty conclusions when dealing with people. When I meet someone, I try not to jump to conclusions like ‘this person is like this,’ but rather to acknowledge and accept the various facets they possess. Thanks to this, many people naturally gathered around me, and through my relationships with them, I learned to see with a broader perspective and deeper understanding.
Originally, I enjoyed studying and had a somewhat passive personality. However, after meeting a friend who was far more introverted than me, I discovered my own proactive side through them and gradually began to change my personality. In other cases, observing someone with habits similar to mine led me to realize, “Ah, that’s how I used to be,” prompting self-reflection. I could naturally correct bad habits I hadn’t noticed before by seeing them through a third party’s eyes. Sometimes, I belatedly realized that aspects I didn’t value were actually a great help to others, and that they were my strengths.
One thing people often thanked me for was that I didn’t judge people easily. Hearing that praise, I felt grateful that strengths I didn’t even know I had could be revealed through others’ eyes. It motivated me to become a better person.
In this way, I have continuously learned and changed through my relationships with others. Rather than confining myself to any fixed mold, I strive to be someone who approaches others with an open mind and learns from them. I believe this is the most accurate description of who I am today. Moving forward, I intend to face the world with a flexible and sincere attitude, never jumping to conclusions in any situation. After all, life always holds unexpected twists.

Reason for Applying

“The precious opportunity I received through LIG’s scholarship program, and my determination to repay that kindness”
My first encounter with LIG was through their scholarship program. I was in a situation where I had to cover my own tuition, and every time the end of the semester approached, worrying about tuition fees gave me a headache. Living with constant financial burdens, the scholarship was more than just financial support; it was a vital hope for me. Then one day, I received a call from my school suggesting I apply for the LIG scholarship. Hearing that felt like a ray of light shining down from the sky, and I submitted my application without hesitation. Fortunately, I received good news and qualified for a year of scholarship benefits.
Being selected as an LIG scholar gave me more than just relief from financial burdens; it provided a precious opportunity to redesign the direction of my life. Previously, I had to spend much of my time working part-time jobs, but after receiving the scholarship, I could dedicate that time entirely to myself. This allowed me the space to seriously contemplate my dreams and career path and to view life with greater depth. It meant far more than mere financial support; it became a major turning point in my life.
Naturally, I developed a deep affection for LIG, which provided this invaluable opportunity, and I have consistently wanted to repay that gratitude somehow. That’s why I applied not just for a job, but with a sincere desire to contribute to LIG as a company. Just as I received benefits, I want to work diligently within LIG and fulfill my role so that someone else can have another opportunity in the future. Based on the sense of responsibility and gratitude I learned through the scholarship program, I will become someone who grows alongside LIG, sharing its values and direction. I hope this sincerity reaches you, the reader of this letter, and I express my gratitude once again. I look forward to working with you.

Person I Admire

“The person who always dreams: my youngest brother.”
The person I admire is none other than my youngest brother. Many people tilt their heads in confusion when they hear me say I admire my brother. Those who have met him in person sometimes react with a look of not understanding me. This is because my brother has a disability.
From birth, my brother frequently exhibited repetitive behaviors, and around age three, he was diagnosed with Down syndrome. He was assessed as having lower intellectual functioning, his appearance differs significantly from our family, and his voice is distinctive. He requires frequent hospital visits due to health issues, and I’ve been told multiple times that mistakes could be life-threatening. Yet, despite these circumstances, my brother is an astonishingly strong person. He possesses a childlike innocence, expresses his emotions honestly, and simultaneously senses others’ feelings with astonishing accuracy. If I cry, he cries with me; if I laugh, he laughs with me.
Many people see this and call him ‘foolish’. But I disagree. In an era like ours, where suppressing emotions and ignoring others’ feelings comes easily, someone who is honest with themselves and empathetic towards others is truly rare. I actually believe my brother’s purity represents the most human value we’ve lost.
When I think of my brother, the word ‘purity’ comes to mind first. I find that purity incredibly precious and learn so much from it. That’s why I always care for him with deep respect. At the same time, I aspire to become that kind of person myself. Sharing emotions without pretense, living a life dedicated to others—that is the life I dream of.

Achievement Experience

“I covered my brother’s tuition and admission fees.”
The moment I felt the greatest sense of accomplishment was when I personally secured my brother’s college tuition and admission fees. I have a younger brother, a second brother between me and my youngest sister, and one younger brother. Thinking of that brother always tugged at my heart. He was the only boy between two sisters, often taking on the tough tasks, yet he never received special attention. He just quietly did his part, and it always made me feel for him. Every time I saw him like that, I held onto the thought that someday, I wanted to give him some meaningful help.
Then, my brother got accepted into college, and I naturally felt the urge to support his tuition and admission deposit. The total cost for tuition and the deposit was around 4 million won, which was by no means a small amount for me. But I was determined to find a way to raise that money. It also happened to be a time when I felt I needed a break from school life, so after finishing my sophomore year, I boldly decided to take a leave of absence. And I began earning money in earnest.
Back then, there was practically no part-time job I hadn’t tried. From office assistant to academy instructor, private tutor, and even pizza shops and bakeries, I worked everywhere. I carved out every possible moment, saving diligently without wasting a single penny. After six months of relentless work, I finally saved 4 million won, which I used entirely for my brother’s installment tuition payments. Fortunately, the installment payment system allowed enrollment without student loans back then, so I could fully cover it with the money I earned.
On the day enrollment was complete, my brother silently held my hand tightly. Even without a single word of thanks, I felt every emotion in that warm touch. That moment was the greatest sense of accomplishment I’ve ever felt in my life.
Of course, studying hard to earn scholarships, winning awards in competitions, and achieving the extracurricular activities I dreamed of are also meaningful accomplishments. But for me, true achievement was the feeling I got when I willingly poured my time and effort into helping someone, especially family, and when that effort made a real difference in someone’s life.
This experience taught me that it wasn’t just about ‘earning money,’ but about realizing how much joy and growth comes from dedication to someone else. I still hold that feeling, that resolve, deep within my heart. Moving forward, I want to look around me, share what I have with others, and become someone who grows together with them. This is the direction I pursue in life, and it is also the first step toward another achievement.
