Growth Process
“My Clock That Runs 15 Minutes Fast”
My parents raised three sons to be diligent and healthy. Throughout that journey, I have one particular thing to thank my mother for. It’s the story of the ‘clock’. From childhood, the clock in my room was always set 15 minutes ahead of the clocks in other houses. Being a heavy sleeper, I was constantly late for school. Concerned about this, my mother chose a simple yet ingenious solution: she set the clock in my room 15 minutes ahead.
Fifteen minutes might seem insignificant, but for me, it proved incredibly powerful in changing my habits. As the clock’s second hand approached the hour mark, I’d instinctively start moving faster, finishing my preparations earlier than usual. Even leaving the house at a time when I would have been late before, thanks to the advanced clock, I’d often arrive on time or even ahead of others.
At first, I honestly resented my mother for doing that. I often grumbled about wanting more sleep. But as time passed, I personally felt how powerful that habit became. So even now, my wristwatch still runs 15 minutes fast. I always arrive well ahead of appointments, and during rush hour, I start moving a little earlier to begin my day with ease. Simply preparing 15 minutes early gave me mental breathing room and cultivated an attitude of calmly tackling everything.
This small change led to greater results than I expected. After the habit took root during my school years, my teacher noticed the change in me and even recommended me for class president. In college, I arrived at the lecture hall 15 minutes before class started to organize my space and prepare an environment conducive to focused learning. This made my academic attitude more diligent and helped me earn good evaluations.
Most importantly, this habit cultivated an attitude of valuing commitments to others. Keeping time commitments is the foundation of trust. Thanks to this small but precious habit instilled by my mother, I became someone others could trust. It was simply a matter of setting my watch 15 minutes early, yet it became a grateful habit that positively influenced my entire life.
School Days
“Finding What Fits Me”
I originally studied a major completely unrelated to sales: English Literature. I chose it out of a deep interest in English literature and the simple belief that mastering English would be beneficial in the future. Looking back now, that choice was a turning point for me and the beginning of my soul-searching. After entering university, meeting diverse people and participating in various activities made me realize that a life spent quietly reading books and researching didn’t align with my nature. Rather, I was someone who gained greater energy from mingling with people and constantly moving about, rather than staying in one place for long.
Up until high school, I considered myself an introverted person, but as I experienced university life, engaging with the outside world and accumulating experiences with others, I gradually changed. Being around others actually brought out the confidence hidden within me and gave me the courage to take on new challenges. Experiencing firsthand how collaboration can create greater synergy, I grew to increasingly enjoy ‘working with people’.
This change prompted me to explore various clubs, thinking I shouldn’t limit myself to just my English literature major. It was during this process that I happened to join a marketing club. In the marketing club, I experienced the joy of teamwork while working on various projects with energetic seniors and witty peers, and I also gained practical experience in the field of marketing. Through this process, I discovered that I was well-suited not only for marketing but also for external activities like sales. People around me also recognized this aspect positively, often telling me, “You’d be good at sales.”
These experiences and the encouragement from those around me became a great source of strength. I set the goal of starting my first job after college in the sales field. I finally applied for a sales position at ○○ Company, and throughout this process, I once again realized how invaluable the reflection and discovery of who I am, what I’m good at, and what I enjoy truly are.
Looking back now, aspects of myself and possibilities I hadn’t fully recognized when choosing my major gradually emerged through my university life, marking the beginning of my journey to find ‘the path that suits me.’ I firmly believe that this process of getting to know myself, step by step, will undoubtedly be a great asset in whatever I do going forward.
Special Experience
“Hosting a Bazaar.”
My conviction that I have a natural aptitude for sales stemmed from participating in a bazaar event during my university years. That bazaar was a meaningful event selling handkerchiefs embroidered by the comfort women grandmothers themselves, along with phone accessories, bags, and other items. It was organized and funded entirely by young people. So I voluntarily took on the role of securing sponsors.
While most of my friends found going around asking for sponsorship embarrassing and burdensome, I actually found the process the most enjoyable and interesting. I visited shops near the university, as well as cultural institutions, one by one. I sincerely explained the purpose and meaning of the bazaar, who would be participating in the event, and what their inclinations were. Every time someone listened to my explanation and readily agreed to sponsor us, I felt immense gratitude, along with great fulfillment and enjoyment.
As a result, I secured the highest amount of sponsorship funds within the team, achieving a difference of over four times compared to the second-place member. This experience gave me tremendous confidence. Furthermore, on the day of the bazaar, while handling sales directly, I discovered another aptitude within myself. Though I’m usually quiet and reserved, once I started working on-site, an unexpected energy surged within me, fueled by a strong desire to sell more than other teams.
Ultimately, the booth I managed achieved the highest sales revenue of the entire bazaar, concluding successfully. After this experience, I became increasingly interested in the field of sales and marketing, gaining the conviction that ‘I can excel at this work.’ Naturally, I began preparing for a career in sales.
Looking back now, it might seem like just a simple volunteer activity, but within it, I found the direction for my career path and realized how rewarding it is to create value through communication with people. This special experience remains a valuable asset that solidifies my belief that I will continue to love and excel in the sales profession.
My Strengths and Weaknesses
I have a personality that thrives on working with others. I consider this my greatest strength. I enjoy collaboration more than anyone, and my efficiency and results improve significantly when working together. While I can certainly accomplish tasks independently, I feel greater motivation and a stronger sense of responsibility when working with others, brainstorming ideas, and driving projects forward together.
For instance, when preparing for a bazaar in the past, planning and executing it with a large team led to a successful outcome. That experience, where we respected each other’s roles, covered for one another’s shortcomings, and moved forward together, reaffirmed how well-suited I am for collaboration within an organization. Setting goals together and walking toward them side by side is far more meaningful than setting and pursuing goals alone. It provides the driving force to encourage each other and prevent giving up midway. Furthermore, goals set collectively stimulate my competitive spirit, making me more diligent and proactive. Therefore, I am confident that I thrive in organizational settings and that my capabilities are best realized in environments centered around collaboration.
On the other hand, my weakness is that I don’t particularly prefer working alone. Realistically, situations where I must prepare tasks solo or plan and act independently do exist. Especially in sales-related work, I sometimes need to schedule appointments myself or handle customers alone at the sales floor. During these moments, I do worry about potentially making mistakes or being less efficient.
However, I don’t dwell on such worries. I consistently strive to compensate for my weaknesses. The more time I spend alone, the more meticulously I plan, diligently following those plans. I resolve to minimize mistakes and act responsibly. While I may still be a bit clumsy at times, I’m gradually improving in my own way to become more adept at utilizing solo time effectively.
I derive greater energy from being with people and find significant fulfillment in collaborating within an organization to achieve results. I believe I can grow even more in a collaboration-focused environment. Simultaneously, I aim to continue developing into someone who never loses the drive to fill gaps in my abilities and effectively utilizes time spent alone.
Reason for Applying
“My aptitude is, without a doubt, sales.”
○○ is Korea’s first total men’s fashion brand. At a time when most companies focused on mainstream tastes or female customers, ○○ started with a clear identity as a ‘specialty store for shirts and ties’. Since then, by concentrating on men’s wear, it has grown into a company with such a solid position that anyone thinking of ‘shirts’ now thinks of ○○. I have long admired ○○ Company’s pioneering spirit and distinctive brand philosophy. Every time I see their products, I feel a sense of pride as if they were my own. This is why I have always deeply desired to work in sales here.
I believe respect and pride in the product are the core driving forces of sales. Only when you have products you can confidently present can you stand tall before customers, and that conviction naturally translates into persuasiveness. Based on my thorough research and understanding of ○○ Company, I am confident in the value and quality this brand embodies. This passion for the company will be the source that allows me to shine even brighter in the field.
If I am given the opportunity to join your company, first, I will become a ‘proactive salesperson’. Rather than sitting and waiting for things to happen, I will be a sales representative who is always thoroughly prepared, takes the initiative, and creates opportunities. Second, I genuinely enjoy working with people. I aspire to be a team member who shares positive energy with colleagues and fosters a cheerful team atmosphere. I will respect and learn from the experience of senior colleagues, becoming a member of the organization who strengthens each other. Third, guided by the belief that ‘preparation is the only way to survive,’ I will grow into a thoroughly prepared, smart salesperson. I will become an expert who earns customer trust by accurately understanding their tastes and needs, and by cultivating fashion sense to the point where I can even offer styling suggestions.
Belief in the product, affection for people, and relentless preparation and execution. Based on these three pillars, I will become a confident salesperson worthy of your company’s name. I sincerely convey my desire to grow alongside ○○ Company. Thank you.
