Advertising Design Self-Introduction: How to Combine Ideas and Emotion?

This blog post introduces methods and expression strategies for writing an advertising design self-introduction that adds emotion to creative ideas to create impact.

My Upbringing

Born as a late child, I grew up showered with my parents’ immense love. As the youngest, I monopolized their affection, and they always worried I might grow up spoiled or ill-mannered. They were particularly strict about manners, constantly emphasizing proper conduct and speech. They scolded me far more severely for rude or ill-mannered behavior than for other mistakes.
In this home environment, I naturally internalized good manners, which positively influenced my school life. I often received praise from teachers and frequently heard comments like “what a polite child” from my friends’ parents. Thanks to this, respect for elders became ingrained as a habit, and I was able to maintain harmonious and warm relationships with my peers.
This background often surfaces in the advertising ideas I create. It seems no coincidence that many of my contest entries focused on themes like ‘courtesy’ and ‘order’. I believe there is a fundamental courtesy that must be observed between people, regardless of age, status, or closeness. In fact, I believe the closer the relationship, the more careful and respectful one should be.
This mindset is a conviction and principle I’ve naturally internalized throughout my life. I am confident it will remain the central axis of my interpersonal relationships moving forward. Etiquette is not merely a decoration to appear neat on the surface; it is an expression of mutual respect and consideration. Just as I have done until now, I wish to continue living by this belief.

School Days

During my university years, I was active in ○○, a nationwide advertising club alliance. Hearing the vivid stories of alumni working in the advertising industry helped me solidify my dream of becoming an advertiser. I was particularly impressed by their attitude of constantly generating ideas in daily life, especially when learning about the behind-the-scenes stories of ad production. This experience made me realize firsthand how crucial ‘distinctive thinking’ and ‘innovative ideas’ are in advertising.
Seeing the diverse entries in competitions sometimes made me shrink back, anxious that my skills might be lacking. Yet that anxiety actually made me stronger. It became the driving force to hone myself further, and thanks to that, I was able to consistently challenge myself in advertising competitions for four years. Finally, I achieved the valuable result of winning the Grand Prize in a university advertising competition hosted by ○○.
I still vividly remember the moment at the award ceremony when my whole body trembled with joy. That profound emotion was the precious reward for countless nights spent sweating and crying. While preparing for the competition, there were many times when I felt exhausted and weary, but it was precisely the memory of that thrilling sense of accomplishment that transformed even those feelings into the energy to keep challenging myself.
Through consistently participating in competitions, I met many like-minded people. I interacted with other participants at award ceremonies, sharing information and building lasting relationships to expand my network. This networking greatly fueled my passion for advertising.
Additionally, I gained the opportunity to participate in my advisor’s project, creating a public service advertisement focused on environmental protection. This advertisement was a print ad for a newspaper. Planning the concept and handling the design myself was no easy task. However, after numerous revisions and discussions, the ad finally appeared in the newspaper. The positive reader response brought me immense satisfaction.
Even during countless difficult moments when I wanted to give up, the reason I kept challenging myself again was likely because of that ‘reward’ and ‘sense of accomplishment’. Advertising is not just a ‘job’ to me; it’s a creative journey that energizes my life and a precious channel connecting me with people. All these experiences during my university years have shaped who I am today and are the strength that allows me to walk my future path with greater firmness.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality, and My Attitude

I generally get along well with people. I believe my attitude of maintaining courtesy, especially with those close to me, has been instrumental in building harmonious relationships with diverse individuals. I value courtesy not to create distance, but to ensure that even close relationships don’t lead to taking commitments lightly or using familiarity as an excuse to overlook mistakes. I believe this is the secret to maintaining good relationships over the long term.
Thanks to this aspect of my personality, people around me often trust me and naturally look to me to take on leadership roles. I think my attitude of sticking to the basics and always giving my best effort to assigned tasks is a factor that inspires trust in others. To faithfully fulfill my role as a leader, I particularly value the ‘attitude of listening’.
In the field of advertising, where creative ideas are paramount, I believe greater synergy arises when diverse perspectives blend rather than insisting on any single individual’s opinion. I always strive to gather varied opinions with an open mind, and I am confident this attitude will be a significant strength in my actual work.
Of course, not everyone possesses only strengths. I am not perfect either, and sometimes the responsibility to meet people’s expectations can feel burdensome. However, even that burden serves as a driving force for my growth. Therefore, I intend to continue developing my strengths and reflecting on my shortcomings to improve them.
I believe good relationships start with small gestures. Moving forward, I aspire to be someone who builds trust based on courtesy, respects diverse opinions, and grows together with others.

Career Experience (or experiences demonstrating work capabilities)

I have experience drawing caricatures at a park near my home, leveraging my drawing skills. This activity was more about pure enjoyment and gaining experience than commercial gain, so the prices were reasonable, and many people came out of curiosity. This experience of drawing while interacting with diverse people held meaning beyond a simple hobby.
The essence of caricature lies not in realistic depiction, but in quickly grasping a person’s defining traits and expressing them effectively. Through this process, I naturally developed keen observational skills to capture individuality within small elements like facial features, expressions, and posture.
I believe this experience can be a valuable asset in advertising design work. Advertising goes beyond creating pretty images; it involves accurately identifying the subject’s characteristics and message, then conveying them visually and effectively. I believe the experience of making eye contact with people in the park, identifying their features, and translating them into drawings within a short time greatly helped cultivate this ability.
Although it was a short-term activity, this experience was a valuable time that allowed me to simultaneously develop my observational and expressive skills. Moving forward, I aim to create more detailed and sensory-rich designs based on this sensibility.

Motivation and Aspirations

I aspire to create advertisements that spark a shift in perspective. I dream of crafting ads that add a fresh viewpoint to things easily overlooked in daily life, reminding us of life’s preciousness and ultimately warming the hearts of those who encounter them. With this goal in mind, I never casually overlook even the smallest objects or situations around me. I strive to maintain an open perspective and flexible thinking at all times, ready to discover the seeds of ideas anywhere, anytime, and develop them into innovative concepts.
I aspire to create advertisements that stimulate emotions while conveying meaningful messages. My ultimate goal is to produce content that moves people’s feelings and elicits empathy through advertising, going beyond simple information delivery. In this regard, I felt your company’s advertising concept, which delivers unexpected emotional impact in everyday life, aligns perfectly with the direction I aim for in advertising.
I will dedicate myself to leveraging my creativity and execution skills at your company to deliver even more brilliant results. I aspire to be not just someone who creates ‘desired’ ads, but a talent who generates tangible results and contributes meaningfully to your company. Based on my accumulated experience and capabilities, I earnestly hope you will grant me this valuable opportunity to help realize your company’s vision and values together.
