What kind of wedding speech would be fitting for a happy couple?

In this blog post, we’ll share examples of warm and heartfelt wedding speeches that will add to the emotion of the ceremony.

Wedding Ceremony Speech – Like Warm Spring Rain

Good day. Today is a day when spring rain falls softly. As the verse says, “Spring rain moistens parched earth and awakens dormant roots,” spring rain is nature’s blessing that stirs the breath of life. While summer monsoon rains are muggy and autumn drizzles are bleak and melancholy, spring rain is like nectar, breathing vitality into life. In this beautiful and warm season, I sincerely congratulate the bride and groom on their new beginning. I also extend my deepest gratitude to all the guests who have graciously taken the time to join us to bless their new start.
The bride and groom must be feeling both nervous and excited in many ways, and our guests here today must also be quite hungry after the various pre-ceremony schedules. Therefore, I will keep the officiant’s speech brief and straightforward. Traditional wedding speeches often include advice like “Honor your parents,” “Respect each other and live happily ever after,” and “Have healthy children and raise them well.” While such words can never be overemphasized, the couple standing here today already hold these principles deeply within their hearts. No, I believe they are more than just aware—they are fully prepared to put these principles into practice. That is why I wish to share a slightly different message with you today.
Today’s young generation is truly smart and capable. They take good care of themselves and are more than capable of shouldering family responsibilities. Yet sometimes, it’s disheartening to see them become overly individualistic, overly shrewd, and seeming to live only for themselves. So today, I hope this couple, in their future lives, will not only live well but also never forget a warm regard for the society they live in together. I wish to speak about two values for life: compassion (慈悲) and generosity (布施).
Buddhism places compassion at the core of life’s values. Here, ‘compassion’ (慈) is unconditional love, akin to a mother’s warm heart, while ‘mercy’ (悲) is like a father’s firm love that corrects wrongs and guides one onto the right path. When these two kinds of love are balanced, we can grow into more mature human beings. And the concrete way to practice this compassion is precisely ‘giving’ (布施), or sharing.
When people hear “giving,” they often think it means “giving what I have left over to those in need.” But true giving is not that. True giving is sharing what I truly need with someone who needs it more urgently than I do—this is genuine giving. That is why I prefer to call giving ‘sharing’ and “service.”
The bride and groom have a high likelihood of building a stable life above the middle class. With that comes a corresponding social responsibility. I hope the couple will live with open hearts toward their neighbors and society, honoring their parents above and raising their children well below. Beyond building a harmonious family, I wish for them to lead lives that listen to others’ pain and pioneer a world where we live together. This is the true meaning of sharing and the beauty of a life lived together.
Finally, I extend my deepest gratitude once more to all the guests gathered here today. May the bride and groom’s future be filled with love and blessings. May the emotion and commitment felt today never fade with time, but instead become the warm foundation supporting their lives. I also sincerely wish health and happiness to all the families of everyone present here today.
Thank you.

Sample Wedding Officiant Speech

Today, on this auspicious day, we first extend our heartfelt congratulations to the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, who have chosen this day to blossom the beautiful flower of their bond. We offer them blessings from nature, the universe, and all humanity. As someone who has walked a little further along life’s path, I, the officiant, join this meaningful and sacred wedding ceremony with solemn reverence.
The groom and bride have now legally acquired the rights of husband and wife and have become life partners who protect and take responsibility for each other in society. Life is often likened to ‘surfing the waves’. The sea of life is not always as calm as a tranquil lake. Sometimes unexpected fierce waves crash in, and sometimes sudden gusts of wind cause it to sway. But if two people join hands, wisely and courageously overcoming the waves based on love and trust, then any storm will ultimately be remembered as just part of the tranquil sea.
Therefore, today, this officiant would like to offer a few heartfelt requests so that the two of you may live together with deeper and stronger love in the future.
The first is ‘consulting each other’.
Until now, each of you may have made decisions and acted independently in your own lives. But now, your journey of becoming one and living together begins. For every decision, big or small, it is essential to respect each other’s thoughts and seek the best path through sincere conversation. Rather than thinking, “This much is okay for me to decide on my own,” consulting each other and making decisions together, even on small matters, will build trust through the process itself and lead to much smoother outcomes.
Second is ‘mutual respect’.
We hope the groom, Mr. ○○○, will cherish his wife like a queen, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, will hold her husband in the highest regard, like a king. Respect is not something received unilaterally; it is given and received mutually. When I treat my spouse with reverence, the world also comes to value that person. A sincere attitude of mutual respect will deepen the trust between husband and wife and make the family home a warm and solid shelter.
Third is ‘comforting and encouraging each other’.
In life’s journey, everyone faces moments of hardship and exhaustion. Sometimes, a single word or a warm touch can offer deep comfort and become the strength to rise again. As each other’s closest friends and supporters from now on, do not hesitate to comfort and encourage one another. A home where words of encouragement and support flow freely becomes life’s greatest sanctuary.
Finally, I would like to extend a request to the families, relatives, and cherished guests who have gathered here today. To all who have generously given your love and support, enabling this couple to stand here today, I offer my deepest gratitude. I ask that you continue to watch over their future with unwavering affection, sharing your warm encouragement and love. Your support will be a great strength to them.
I also wish health, peace, and good fortune to all the families present here today. With that, I conclude my wedding officiant speech. Once again, may love and blessings fill the future of the bride and groom.
Thank you.

Sample Wedding Ceremony Speech – The Beginning of Love is Small Acts of Care

Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon.
Small acts of care are the very beginning of love. That warm care brought these two people to stand here today, taking their first step toward building a new family together.
The fragrance of flowers is carried by the wind, but the fragrance of a person is carried by the heart. The groom and bride celebrating their wedding today are people who have truly shared with me the fresh and beautiful fragrance of their hearts. The groom was a student I taught as his 5th and 6th grade homeroom teacher, and the bride has maintained a deep connection with me since our university days. Both are alumni, respected not only among their peers but also having shared a long, warm relationship with my husband and me.
In this vast world, they met as a campus couple, nurtured their love, and finally stand together here today. I offer my heartfelt congratulations to the groom and bride who have guarded their love with unwavering devotion over the years.
Today, before the precious guests gathered here, they exchanged vows to spend their entire lives together. Married life is not always a path of happiness and smooth sailing. There will be times when hearts feel uneasy, times when thoughts waver. But if, in each of those moments, they understand and embrace each other more deeply, growing together, then they will be able to walk side by side as steadfast companions until the end of their lives. Isn’t that the true beauty of the life they create together as one?
As your officiant, I sincerely hope the bride and groom will always nurture a home filled with love. How you live your lives is entirely up to the two of you. I encourage you to live with a heart willing to share rather than grasp, with a generous spirit rather than a harsh one. Live with love that reaches out first rather than waits, love that trusts rather than doubts, love that embraces rather than watches warily. And may you live a life sharing joy rather than bringing sorrow, offering generous applause rather than envy, and giving warm praise rather than criticism.
Live with respect rather than disregard, and gratitude rather than resentment. May you face each other with hearts that seek unity over division, steadfastness over fickleness, honesty over deceit, and dignity over shame.
Today, I especially wish to emphasize this: as you build your life together, never forget to honor both sets of parents and cherish deep gratitude in your hearts. Standing here today was made possible by the boundless love and care of both sets of parents. Your parents do not seek material things. A small gesture of sincerity and a heartfelt thought will bring them greater joy than anything else. Cherish that heart and repay it with small but warm acts of kindness.
As I conclude this ceremony, I offer my heartfelt blessings to the newlyweds. May you live each day with good intentions in your hearts. May you be a couple who strengthens each other rather than burdens each other, a couple who brings blessings rather than harm. And above all, never forget to show interest in each other. I emphasize this once more: small acts of care are the very beginning of love.
Groom, Bride. May love and happiness always accompany you both in your future. Live well. Thank you.

Sample Wedding Officiant Speech (May Bride Edition)

Distinguished guests, good afternoon.
May, brimming with fresh greenery, is truly a beautiful season. It comes as no surprise that May is the month when the most weddings take place among the four seasons. This season, when nature regains its vitality and warm sunshine mingles with clear breezes, provides the perfect backdrop for lovers dreaming of a new beginning. While weddings are held year-round nowadays, I believe this is precisely why so many still dream of being a ‘May bride’. It’s the time when the lush greenery, the white wedding dress, and the bride’s radiant smile harmonize most beautifully.
Here today, the most beautiful May bride in the world is preparing to take her first step into a new life. First, on this meaningful day, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to both sets of parents. Sharing this most important moment in your child’s life, I imagine your hearts are also overflowing with emotion.
I am the father of the groom, ○○, and I have the honor of officiating today. While it is a privilege to stand at this precious occasion, it is also my first time officiating a wedding. After much thought and deliberation, I stand here today. Pondering what words could best bless this precious moment, I wish to convey my sincerity through advice drawn from life’s experiences.
Marriage is when two people fold up the paths they’ve walked in their separate lives and promise to move forward together in the same direction. And at the starting point of that journey, the most important thing is ‘harmony’. Harmony means acknowledging and respecting each other’s differences, and blending together as one beyond those differences. The groom and bride have grown up in different environments until now, and their thoughts, habits, and ways of life are surely different. Now, as husband and wife, they must share daily life together in one space. It’s not as easy as it sounds. Yet, the greater the challenge, the greater the meaning; the more effort put in, the deeper the love and trust that can be built in a marital relationship.
So, how can harmony be achieved? I believe the key lies in ‘communication’. Specifically, warm conversations filled with love. Not words meant merely to assert one’s own position, but words that first consider and respect the other’s heart. When such conversations accumulate, misunderstandings can turn into understanding, and conflicts can transform into empathy. Even the most trivial argument, if emotions run high, can widen the cracks in a relationship. So, always practice thinking from each other’s perspective and sharing your hearts.
Your future life will surely be filled with happy moments, but sometimes, big and small difficulties will also come your way. When that happens, remember this phrase: “This too shall pass.” No matter the moment in life, both joy and sorrow eventually fade. So, when times are good, rejoice together; when times are hard, trust and rely on each other, holding hands tightly to overcome them. If you never forget that spirit, you will safely navigate any hurdle and grow into an even stronger couple.
Taking this opportunity today, I once again extend my warmest congratulations to the groom and bride as they begin their new life together. I sincerely wish that the long journey you will write together be filled with love, laughter, and warm understanding. Thank you for listening.

Small gestures of care are the very beginning of love

They say the scent of flowers is carried by the wind, while the scent of a person is conveyed through the heart. Today, the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, are people who have truly given me a fresh and warm fragrance.
As classmates and alumni, they were deeply trusted even among seniors and juniors, and have shared a long, deep bond with my wife and me. In this vast and complex world, they first met on campus, nurtured their connection, and have finally come together today as the fruit of their love. I offer heartfelt applause to these two who have cultivated their love with unwavering devotion over the years.
Before all gathered here today, the bride and groom have pledged to accept each other as lifelong companions, vowing to live with unwavering love and trust. As you journey through life together, there will be moments when your hearts waver or feel uneasy. Yet, in those moments, may you deepen your understanding of each other, refine your bond, and remain steadfast companions walking side by side to the very end. The path you walk together will be dazzlingly beautiful, and that makes it all the more precious and valuable.
As the officiant, I wish to share a small wish with you both as you take your first steps as husband and wife. How you build your home is solely up to the two of you. Love is not something to be clutched, but something to be shared. Live with a generous heart rather than a harsh one, with love that seeks out rather than waits. Choose a life of trust over doubt, consideration over suspicion, and joy over sorrow. Live with a heart that offers applause of support over envy, and warm praise over criticism.
Above all, the bride and groom must fill each day with respect for one another instead of disregard, and gratitude over resentment. When hearts drift apart, we must refocus them to become one again. We must look at each other with unwavering sincerity rather than capriciousness. We must live facing each other with truth rather than falsehood, with integrity rather than shame.
And there is something I must emphasize. As you build your new home and live frugally, I urge you to care for both sets of parents with all your heart. Never forget that your parents’ devotion and love brought you to this day. They do not seek material compensation. A sincere heart is enough. A heart that attentively cares for even the smallest things will move them more deeply than any gift.
As I conclude this wedding address, I send my earnest wishes to the two of you as you begin your new life together. May you fill each day with good intentions and kind hearts, becoming a couple who brings each other blessings rather than harm, strength rather than burden. Always show each other special care. Small acts of care are the beginning of love, and that love will make your lives warmer and brighter.
Groom ○○○, Bride ○○○, live beautifully and happily together. My heartfelt congratulations.

Sample Wedding Officiant Greeting Script

Hello, everyone.
It is autumn, a season when the crisp morning and evening air washes away even the deepest thoughts in our hearts.
At this time of year, trees quietly shed their leaves, preparing for the long winter. Yet beneath this lies a quiet anticipation and hope for the coming spring.
On this peaceful autumn weekend, we gather here to celebrate the new beginning of a couple preparing for their own ‘spring’.
Recalling the fairy tales I read as a child, the stories always concluded with the protagonists’ marriage. Yet strangely, I hardly remember any tales that continued after the wedding. Perhaps I just never found them? Or did the world want to see marriage as the ‘end’? That’s why people often call marriage ‘the grave of life’. But I sincerely hope the bride and groom here today do not fall for such a foolish perspective.
Marriage is certainly no easy journey. It’s the process of two people who have lived entirely different lives coming together to chart a completely new life map. How wonderful it would be if love alone could overcome every difficulty! But reality is not that simple. There will inevitably be times when love alone is insufficient to handle the challenges that arise, moments when understanding, patience, and consideration are desperately needed.
But that doesn’t mean married life is only painful. Rather, sharing a life with someone you love, growing together within it, and sharing both joy and sorrow—isn’t this special journey, quite literally, something close to a ‘miracle’?
These days, it’s an era that places greater emphasis on ‘me.’ It’s a society where how I perceive and feel matters more than how others feel or think. This trend also impacts marital relationships. Rather than considering a spouse’s feelings and thoughts, prioritizing one’s own emotions and perspectives—and even trying to impose them on the other—is often seen. But this approach makes a harmonious marriage difficult to achieve.
A married couple is closer than anyone else in the world, yet even the smallest misunderstanding or indifference can make them feel like strangers. Ironically, a relationship that began with a single piece of paper—the marriage registration form—can be easily ended by another piece of paper. This reality reminds us of one crucial fact: above all else, a marital relationship must be handled with great care and sensitivity, and each partner must cherish the other more than anyone else.
Looking around, we often see people who are generous and understanding toward others, yet are indifferent to their own spouse or even withhold the smallest gestures of care. This is never a desirable state. As with all human relationships, a marital relationship must be founded on understanding, consideration, and respect. A happy home is built upon a harmonious marital relationship, and maintaining and nurturing such a relationship requires constant effort.
Marriage is an amazing decision where two people who have lived entirely different lives choose to live together based on the single emotion of ‘love’. Never forget to be grateful for this amazing miracle, cherish each other, and walk together on the path of a hundred years of happiness.
May peace and blessings always fill this newly starting family.
Thank you.

Wedding Officiant Seasonal Greeting Script

Hello, everyone. It’s a pleasure to see you.
Today, even the weather feels like a blessing, beautifully clear. Beyond the windows, May’s cherry blossoms drifting down resemble warm winter snow, creating a scene that is cozy and peaceful. The soft sunlight and the occasional spring breeze make it clear that spring has truly arrived.
On this brilliant and beautiful day, I extend my deepest gratitude on behalf of both families to all of you who have graced us with your presence to celebrate the marriage of the most radiant bride of May, Miss ○○○, and the dependable groom, Mr. ○○○. I sincerely hope that the future of these two individuals, starting a new life together here today, will be filled only with days as warm and peaceful as this spring day.
My role as officiant stems not merely from fate. Through many conversations with the couple, I witnessed their profound mutual respect and love, and saw how earnestly they worked to stand here today. To these two, embarking on a new life built upon such deep trust and love, I offer my heartfelt blessings.
Marriage is a journey where two distinct individuals come together to build a shared life. Alongside the joy and excitement, there will undoubtedly be challenges, both big and small. Yet, overcoming these together deepens your love and becomes the nourishment that strengthens the bond of marriage.
In 1 Corinthians 13, the Bible says, “Love is patient.” How long is “patient”? A month? A year? Or perhaps a lifetime? In this context, I’d like to share an anecdote between Confucius and his disciple, Zizhang. When Zizhang ascended to an official post and requested a guiding principle for life, Confucius replied, “The foundation of all actions lies in endurance.” Zizhang then asked, “What outcome does endurance bring?” Confucius answered, “If a husband and wife endure together throughout their lives, they will find peace even at the ends of the earth.”
Ultimately, we are beings who live within ‘relationships’. Marriage creates a new family and unfolds diverse human connections. At this juncture, the most crucial elements are ‘patience’ and ‘wisdom’. If a husband fails to understand his wife’s hardships, or a wife cannot empathize with her husband’s struggles, this is not merely a problem between two individuals. It can escalate into an issue affecting the entire household and, further still, society at large.
Just as a strong fortress is built to win a war, marriage must also lay a solid foundation to become a secure refuge for each other. The home built together by the couple is their final stronghold against the world and their most precious sanctuary. Therefore, they must care for and understand each other, doing their utmost to nurture their family together.
I take this opportunity to express my sincere and deepest gratitude to the parents of both families for raising such wonderful children. Together with everyone gathered here today, I also pray that health, happiness, and good fortune always fill the future path these two will walk together on this beautiful day.
Thank you.

May Greetings from the Wedding Officiant

Ladies and gentlemen, hello.
Though the spring flowers that bloomed in full splendor have sadly shed their petals, the green leaves that have sprouted in their place are now growing in color and size, radiating even greater freshness. Before we know it, May is drawing to a close. I believe the true beauty of May, often called the queen of seasons, lies not in the fleeting splendor of blossoms that bloom briefly and fade, but in the vibrant vitality of leaves that have grown lush and strong under the sun’s warmth for a long time, creating an even deeper radiance of spring.
Rather than feeling regret that the spring flowers have fallen, I hope you will look upon the leaves sparkling in the sunlight and feel the message of comfort and hope that nature offers us. May you, like those trees, remain vibrant and healthy, and enjoy the remaining days of spring well.
In this month of May, when the greenery deepens and life abounds, the most beautiful couple in the world stands here today to tie the knot. To the bride and groom, who marry under the warm blessings of spring, we extend our heartfelt congratulations, together with all the guests gathered here.
Marriage is a bond ordained by heaven, a joyous occasion where one man and one woman form a single family. It is also a profound day where two families unite to become one. Until now, you have grown up in the happiness your parents created for you. From this day forward, you stand at the starting point of building a new life together. It is a significant turning point filled with joy and excitement, but also one where you will sometimes share responsibilities and burdens.
Therefore, today, as someone who has walked this path before you, I would like to emphasize just two of the many conditions necessary to build a happy new home. They are: taking good care of those close to you, and cherishing the little things.
First, taking good care of those close to you means showing consideration and respect for the people we live with. We live constantly alongside not only our spouses, but also parents, siblings, relatives, friends, and neighbors. Yet, the reality is that conflicts often arise precisely because they are close. To reduce such conflicts and maintain joyful relationships, we must always be mindful of our words and actions and never forget to show consideration for each other.
Especially for spouses, who are said to be “one heart, one body,” the closest of relationships, the closer we are, the more we must live respecting each other. Likewise, regarding parents, do not treat them casually just because they are “close”; show them respect and courtesy. Even if you cannot visit often, a simple phone call to check in and express gratitude will bring your parents great joy. Faith and love accumulate in this way, and they become the very foundation upon which I can live comfortably. That is why we have the saying, “When the family is harmonious, all things prosper.” When the family is harmonious, everything else tends to fall into place.
And second, I want to tell you to cherish the small things. In life, we often fixate on big, flashy things, envying them or coveting them. But as time passes, we look back and wonder if they truly held any real value.
They say that deep emotion comes from small things, while shock comes from big things. A bouquet of flowers is beautiful, but a single rose given with sincerity can convey deeper emotion. A simple thank-you note with a box of chocolates resonates far more deeply with parents than an expensive gift. Remember, happiness isn’t found far away; it hides within the small, everyday things we encounter frequently.
To this couple marrying today, I urge you: the closer the person, the warmer your care; the smaller the act, the more precious it becomes. This will strengthen your family and help you discover true happiness in everyday life.
Finally, I extend my gratitude to all the guests gathered here today. I sincerely wish your homes are always filled with peace and joy. With that, I conclude my wedding speech. Thank you.

Sample Wedding Ceremony Speech

On this abundant and sunny autumn day, groom ○○○ and bride ○○○ stand at the starting line of a new life, blessed by their parents, relatives, and many guests. I sincerely congratulate you both on your beautiful marriage.
I also extend my deepest gratitude to all the guests who have graced us with your presence and precious time today. Above all, I offer my respect and thanks to the parents of both families, who raised these two individuals with love and devotion, and who have been the strong foundation enabling them to build this new family together today.
Today, the bride and groom close the chapter of their ‘solo era,’ where they lived separate lives, and begin a new ‘three-legged race era,’ where they move forward in step together. Marriage is more than simply two people meeting and becoming husband and wife; it is the process of two individuals creating one life together. Just like in a three-legged race where two people must run together with their legs tied, from now on, whatever they face, they must discuss it together, consider each other, and make decisions as a pair.
Today, as someone who has walked this path before them, I would like to offer a few words of advice to the bride and groom as they take their first steps on this new journey.
First, I hope you become people like honeybees.
They say there are spider-like people, ant-like people, and bee-like people in this world. The spider is a selfish creature that spins its web solely for itself and waits for prey. The ant is a diligent worker, laboring only for its own family. In contrast, the bee flits from flower to flower, aiding pollination to bear fruit, and in the process, creates honey, sharing this precious food with people. Bees live lives that benefit those around them, not just themselves. If a couple lives together like bees, they can achieve a beautiful life that brings warmth not only to their family but also to society.
Second, have dreams.
Everyone lives with dreams, big and small. Dreams only become reality when you strive for them. You may have short-term dreams achievable in the near future, or long-term dreams aimed at the distant future. Success at work, financial prosperity, a healthy family… all can be dreams. But dreams remain unfulfilled if kept only in the heart. They require constant effort and patience, and once one dream is achieved, another must be embraced and pursued. A life thus relentlessly striving toward dreams will ultimately become a ‘happy life,’ a ‘fulfilling life,’ a ‘joyful life.’
Now, I have a request for all the guests gathered here today. Please do not withhold your warm encouragement and advice so that these two may cherish and love each other, building a happy family together. The bride and groom, in this moment, may not hear the officiant’s words clearly. I too, in my youth, heard the officiant’s words at my wedding, but now I remember only the face of the person who officiated, not the words themselves.
Therefore, I plan to print this wedding speech and personally deliver it to the bride and groom. I hope they will read it again during their honeymoon, laminate it to keep it safe, and one day in life, take it out to reread, recalling today’s vows and emotions.
May love and joy fill the future of groom ○○○ and bride ○○○, who today become husband and wife and start a new family. May you have many children like Heungbu, and build a warm, laughter-filled home.
Once again, congratulations to both of you on your marriage. I also extend my gratitude to everyone who joined us here today. Thank you.
