Growth Process
I first encountered the piano at age 7. The first instrument I met was an electronic piano made by Simro Music Instruments. I spent my days sitting in front of it, tapping the keys. What began as simple play turned into serious piano lessons around the time I entered elementary school, as people around me started saying I had “talent.” My skills improved rapidly through both academy classes and private lessons. Above all, I played the piano not because of anyone’s suggestion or pressure, but purely out of my own interest and enjoyment. Even after returning from the academy, sitting down at the piano at home to practice again became a daily routine.
During middle and high school, I participated in piano competitions, winning several awards and gaining recognition for my skills. This led to joining a local ensemble, where I studied music alongside various instrumentalists and learned the joy of collaboration. Standing on stage with peers, sometimes engaging in friendly competition and other times achieving perfect harmony, further developed my musical sensibilities. This journey solidified my conviction to major in music, ultimately leading me to pursue piano as my major at university and enter a music college. Simultaneously, wanting to view music from a broader perspective, I double-majored in business administration, resolving to one day walk the path of a business leader within the music field.
However, as I continued my studies in college, while piano remained captivating, I found myself increasingly drawn to business administration. I realized that understanding both music and business could create new value. So, I began searching for work that would utilize my music background while applying my business knowledge. People around me discouraged me, saying, “You can find a path just with your piano major,” but I firmly believed a connection between music and business existed.
Ultimately, I decided to work at a musical instrument store. I judged it to be a place where I could utilize both my expertise as a music major who deeply understands the music scene and my background in business studies. Specifically, I set the goal of working in the sales department, communicating directly with customers and gaining experience at the very frontline where music and business meet. Together with the instruments that were the starting point of my musical life, I now aim to unfold my potential on a much broader stage.

“My limits are only as far as I set them.”
I believe a positive attitude is paramount in navigating life. Positive people can value their potential more highly and lead themselves into broader worlds. Rather than negative statements like “How could I possibly do this?” or “I can’t do it,” I believe phrases like “I can do it,” “I want to challenge myself.” I believe these words have the power to transform lives. That’s why I always strive to view myself positively.
When I was young, learning piano, I experienced a period of deep frustration. It was a time when I no longer wanted to play the piano and found classical music tedious. Looking back now, that period was a slump. No matter how much I practiced, my skills wouldn’t improve. Comparing myself to friends who were better, I thought, ‘This is all I’m capable of.’ But when I let go of those negative thoughts and started encouraging myself—‘Maybe there’s potential I haven’t discovered yet. If I try, things can change’—gradual shifts began to happen.
That’s when I realized that “limits only exist to the extent we set them for ourselves.” The moment I thought, “This is my limit,” that thought became a wall blocking my potential for growth. When I stopped setting limits and simply looked ahead, a whole new world began to open up. Pieces that had always been difficult suddenly flowed naturally one day, and music I used to dislike gradually became familiar to my ears, transforming into a pleasure to listen to. I didn’t stop at simply playing the given sheet music; I gradually began trying my hand at composition and lyric writing.
Especially after starting to compose, my piano skills improved noticeably. Composing requires not just learning scales, but a deep understanding of music as a whole, including harmony and chord theory. This process was another learning opportunity for me and allowed me to feel music in a much more multidimensional way. As I continued studying this way, piano performance now feels less like merely pressing keys and more like a science. Understanding how certain notes create specific moods and how particular structures convey emotions has made the world of music feel broader and deeper.
Through these experiences, I became convinced that positive thinking is the starting point for possibility. To transcend limits, one first needs the courage to erase them. And at the foundation of that courage must always lie a positive mindset that believes in myself. Facing life’s challenges, big and small, I always recall this thought: “My limits are only as far as I set them.” And today, too, I take one more step forward to surpass those limits.

I enjoy encountering new cultures and communicating with diverse people. So whenever I have time, I enjoy traveling and strive to experience different parts of the world firsthand. I often use weekends for overnight trips to nearby international cities, and during periods with more flexible schedules, like vacations, I venture further afield. Sometimes I follow structured itineraries through package tours, and I’ve also had many experiences traveling in groups with people sharing common interests, like themed wine tours or ski trips.
As I traveled like this, marking the countries and cities I visited on a world map became a daily habit. Wanting to document these journeys naturally led me to start blogging. Posting records of vivid travel episodes, photos, and reflections brought me the joy of writing and the fun of connecting with others. As a result, I’ve traveled to a total of 8 countries and 17 cities so far. These records resonated with many people, leading to the achievement of being selected as a ‘Power Blogger’ on Naver Blog. What began as a simple hobby gradually grew as my audience expanded and people started anticipating my posts, bringing with it a sense of responsibility.
One particularly memorable trip involved participating in international volunteer work. I can play the piano, violin, and cello. While traveling in Italy and Turkey, I happened to join a local street concert. I was originally performing on the street for fun, but upon hearing that a local music event was running a program where performance proceeds were donated, I naturally expressed my interest to participate. Though I was traveling and couldn’t commit long-term, I joined rehearsals for just one day and performed violin and cello pieces over two days. The realization that my consistently practiced musical skills could offer someone a small but warm gesture of help was a more meaningful and rewarding experience than any other trip.
In this way, I’ve gone beyond simply enjoying travel; I’ve used it to understand diverse cultures and people, actively communicating throughout the process to cultivate an international perspective. Moving forward, I wish to continuously create opportunities to connect with and engage in a broader world, building upon these experiences.
Work Experience
“Ten Months at the Music Culture Center”
Immediately after graduating from university, I worked for ten months as a contract employee at a music culture center. There, I handled music-related administrative tasks within the center. My primary duties included drafting English correspondence, translating English documents, and producing promotional materials such as pamphlets. The tasks themselves were relatively straightforward and clear, but adapting to the organizational culture I was encountering for the first time took some time. In the quiet, seemingly relaxed atmosphere unique to cultural arts institutions, I wasn’t sure how to communicate effectively or what type of person would fit well into this organization. So, I started each day by arriving earlier than anyone else and greeting every staff member with a bright smile.
At first, perhaps due to the awkwardness of a new employee, the atmosphere was lukewarm, with greetings barely acknowledged. But as time passed, things gradually began to change. More and more people started greeting me first and welcoming me warmly, and through this process, I naturally began to blend in as a member of the organization. After about a month, my colleagues also started taking an interest in my work performance.
I felt a deep sense of fulfillment whenever I received praise, especially for my English translation skills or document writing abilities. This became a driving force that fueled my passion for work. As trust grew, the interest in me gradually extended beyond just work matters. Relationships developed where we could share personal stories, like overseas travel experiences or hobbies like playing musical instruments. This allowed me to feel genuine human connection within the organization.
Beyond simply ‘doing the work,’ it was a valuable time where I learned how to form relationships and adapt within the confines of society. This experience instilled confidence that, no matter what organization I join in the future, I won’t fear the initial awkwardness but will proactively reach out and build relationships.
