This blog post introduces how to effectively convey the expertise and drive required for export work in your application, based on practical experience gained in heavy equipment sales.
Growth Background
As a child, I harbored a particularly strong fascination and admiration for ‘giant robots’. In TV shows and movies, these legendary warriors emerged, their massive metal bodies shaking the earth with every step, uprooting trees with a swing of their arms, and relentlessly firing laser beams and rocket punches. Giant animals and dinosaurs encountered in science books also held a special place in my heart. Their towering height and immense size, which I could only gaze up at from afar, symbolized a world beyond my reach. They expanded the limited vision of a small, fragile human. It was an overwhelming feeling, akin to the sense of liberation I felt when I first climbed to the top of the jungle gym and looked down at the sky and earth, or when I took in the world at a glance from an observation deck. All those colossal beings inspired awe in me, yet also offered a strange comfort, and I loved them sincerely.
Perhaps influenced by this, I dreamed of someday having a job where I could face enormous creatures or machines, so vast they were almost impossible to look up to. This desire to transcend the limitations of being human sometimes led to an admiration for professions dealing with giant mammals like elephants or whales. Scenes from the dinosaur movies I saw as a child remain vividly etched in my memory. I always felt a deep regret over their absence, creatures now extinct and forever beyond reach. Yet the space for ‘giant beings’ I could encounter in reality proved far smaller and more restricted within civilization than I had hoped. It felt like the suffocating confinement of an animal meant to roam vast prairies, trapped instead in a narrow cage.
This thirst naturally drew my interest toward architecture and machinery. I often imagined, ‘If robots were already commonplace, I would surely be sitting in the cockpit.’ My desire to overcome my limitations through technology ultimately led to an interest in machinery I could directly handle and operate—especially heavy equipment possessing immense power and grandeur. Back when giant robots were just a fantasy for me, heavy machinery was the closest thing in reality that could replace that dream.
School Days
During my school days, I was utterly fascinated by heavy machinery like massive trucks, buses, and excavators. As a child, I dreamed of a life adventuring alongside giant robots or animals, but as time passed, I gradually refined that fantasy into a form I could grasp within reality. After countless cycles of imagination and refinement, the world I arrived at was that of heavy machinery. The desire I’d held since childhood – ‘I want to ride and control a robot myself’ – remained strong, but technological progress flowed more slowly than my expectations. So I had to set aside the most dazzling part of my dream for a moment, keeping only the aspects that could connect with reality, and gradually refine them. That’s how I began steering my dream toward a size I could handle. Thanks to my father, who worked in construction, I often had the chance to visit his workplace and indirectly experience areas of interest. This was an incredibly precious and valuable time for me.
At first, I thought it would be enough just to climb onto one of those machines and operate it. So, for a time, I seriously considered the path of becoming a heavy equipment operator. Even if it meant doing simple, heavy work like moving dirt, asphalt, or cargo, in my imagination, I was always a skilled pilot expertly controlling a giant robot. To an outsider, it might have seemed like a wild fantasy, but for me, that passion and interest became a powerful driving force that led me to choose my own path and prepare for entrance exams.
Even though I never ended up in a position to directly drive or operate machinery, I steadily worked to find another way to contribute in my own way. Balancing the pursuit of my dream with the realities of livelihood was never easy, but it was also a path that brought invaluable rewards. Looking back, that dream wasn’t just a simple aspiration; it was the compass that guided the direction of my life. Even now, whenever I see heavy machinery moving along the road, the excitement and hope I felt back then suddenly come alive again.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I am someone who always strives to broaden my horizons. People inevitably absorb significant influence from their surroundings and subconscious, so if one remains confined within narrow boundaries, their capabilities will inevitably remain limited. Just as a frog trapped in a well cannot know the outside world, if I too settle for my current environment, I will face limitations in growth within a restricted field of vision and experience. That’s why I always strive to leap forward, reaching toward a broader and higher world. I don’t stop at being satisfied with my current position; I gather strength in my knees to gain momentum, pushing myself to take one more step beyond. I still vividly remember how much more vibrant and thrilling it felt to climb to the top of the jungle gym and gaze out into the distance, compared to viewing the world from the much lower eye level of a child.
Of course, some might label this tendency as “never being satisfied” or say I should “learn to appreciate what I have.” Yet I firmly believe that true growth and broadening one’s horizons require constantly reflecting on where you stand and recognizing how far the journey still lies ahead. Like a frog content in lukewarm water that fails to notice the water boiling and slowly meets its demise, I strive not to confine myself to complacency. Like a frog crouching low, gathering momentum ready to leap at any moment, I prepare thoroughly to meet the opportunities ahead. That is my attitude toward the world, and the driving force that keeps me growing.
Life Motto
“Let’s steadily break my personal best record in life!”
As the saying goes, ‘My greatest and strongest enemy is myself,’ the opponent I’ve most consciously competed against in my life has always been myself. Of course, others who were ahead of me or at a similar level were certainly rivals who drew my interest, but above all, what truly fired me up was the resolve to “become a far better version of myself than I was in the past.” This was the minimum standard I set for myself, an absolute line I could never retreat from.
Time, once passed, cannot be retrieved; therefore, I believe its consumption must be cherished, used entirely for my own achievement and development. Thus, I believed that the moment I lost to my past self was the moment stagnation and regression began. For this reason, I have always strived to give my absolute best effort, no matter how small the improvement over my past self. While that growth was sometimes noticeable and other times barely perceptible, I am certain that these steady steps accumulated to create a better ‘me today’. Moving forward, I intend to live a life where I surpass yesterday’s self, continually breaking my own records.
Career History
At Company ○○, I was responsible for sales promotion of heavy equipment production, diligently working to steadily develop new sales channels. I expanded touchpoints with diverse customer segments and gained experience by implementing various strategies to establish a stable sales foundation. Through this process, I naturally developed an interest in overseas export markets and set the goal of applying my capabilities at a company with a more robust global presence and systematic international network. To achieve this greater leap forward, I chose to leave ○○ Company and pursue a new challenge.
Reasons for Applying and Future Aspirations
As a child, I dreamed of a life alongside cranes soaring high into the sky or robots moving freely. The imagination of working with machines possessing a broad field of view and elevated perspective nurtured my curiosity and passion. This was not merely a fleeting childhood impulse but became a crucial driving force shaping my career path to this day. My parents believed my love for robots would naturally fade over time, but instead, I sought out the path to realize that dream and walked it to the end. As a result, I now hold a position that mirrors the romance I once cherished, continuing my passion within my work and life. And now, I stand at a crucial turning point, seeking to expand that dream beyond Korea to the global stage.
