How should I write my cover letter to apply for a sales position?

In this blog post, I’ll share the key elements to include in your cover letter and writing tips to position yourself as a suitable candidate for a sales role.

My Background

As a child, I was always fascinated by the ever-changing computers whenever I visited my cousins’ house nearby. Even as the era of one PC per household arrived, my parents were somewhat hesitant to embrace the latest technology. This stemmed from their strong belief in preserving traditional values, leading them to prioritize an analog lifestyle over a digital environment. This mindset was likely influenced by the family business, a tradition passed down from my grandfather’s generation. The conservative ethos formed through carrying on this legacy naturally permeated the entire household atmosphere.
In contrast, my uncle, who worked in the IT industry, held entirely different values. He believed that as the world constantly changed, he too must actively adapt to those changes or risk being left behind someday. With this resolve, he actively embraced new technologies and trends, investing generously to ensure the entire family could respond sensitively to the currents of the times. My uncle’s open-mindedness and relentless passion for learning were a huge inspiration to me as a child, and I naturally became deeply fascinated by his philosophy. And I began to harbor the desire to become an adult who embraced that same attitude toward life.
Of course, the time I could spend at my uncle’s house, using the excuse of visiting to play with my cousins, was very short and limited. Yet I strove not to waste even that brief time. As if I’d resolved to absorb as much knowledge as possible within the time allotted to me, every moment spent at my uncle’s house became a small classroom for me. People often draw out their own potential more effectively when time or conditions are limited, rather than in an unrestricted environment. I too concentrated more intensely in such situations, fully engaging my mind, and relentlessly strove to gain as much learning and inspiration as possible during my brief visits.
Before returning to my own home, which relied entirely on analog technology without even attempting to acquire the latest appliances, I tried to absorb everything like a sponge, not missing a single word or action from my uncle. During that time, my mind became soft and flexible, and I felt as if the limits of my thinking, always suppressed by the strict atmosphere at home, were suddenly opening wide. That experience moved me beyond simple curiosity and became an opportunity to broaden my perspective on the world. Through my uncle’s philosophy, I learned to be wary of stagnation before fearing change.

School Days

During my school years, our household still adhered to a strict family tradition. While order and discipline among family members were clear, growing up within that framework, I often felt suffocatingly stifled. Perhaps that’s why I naturally sought outlets like club activities, constantly darting around inside and outside school to explore my own freedom. Unlike my friends, I wasn’t granted the luxury of returning home to relax leisurely or review the day’s lessons to wind down. Consequently, my yearning for independence was stronger than anyone’s, and the intense desire to secure my own space as soon as possible drove me to strive even harder.
Of course, my parents were good people. They fed and clothed me, giving me unstinting care, and as a child, I couldn’t help but be grateful. However, when it came to the rapidly changing currents of the technology and information industries, the gap in our thinking never narrowed. My parents held somewhat conservative views when it came to embracing new things, while I, conversely, wanted to respond nimbly to change. This difference in values became increasingly clear. Ultimately, facing this parallel gap sometimes made me feel suddenly melancholy.
But I couldn’t remain passively pulled along under my parents’ shadow forever. I needed to forge my own path proactively, and to do that, I first had to discipline and grow myself. To dive freely into the field I desired, the starting point of ‘independence’ had to come first above all else, and to achieve independence, my abilities absolutely had to back me up. Becoming an adult doesn’t automatically make you mature, nor does it mean your abilities skyrocket like leveling up in a game. In fact, I realized early on that true preparation must be built step by step, starting from the time under my parents’ protection.
Looking back, my school years weren’t just a simple phase of growing up; they were a ‘warm-up period’ for a crucial turning point in life. Like a spring tightly compressed before springing back, it was a period of gathering all the momentum needed for the full leap forward once adulthood arrived. Though I still had many unfinished parts back then, my clear direction and unwavering resolve were stronger than anyone else’s. Thus, I was advancing steadily yet fiercely toward the goal of ‘independence’.

Personality Introduction

I possess a character that remains steadfast in the face of hardship or crisis, resolutely advancing toward my envisioned direction. Growing up under my parents’ conservative values, I lacked an environment where I could freely explore my interests in computer technology or the information industry. My passion, like a plant withering from lack of water, was gradually losing its vitality within me. Fortunately, thanks to the influence of my uncle—who was actively working in the IT industry and always kept up with the latest technologies and products—I gained another opportunity to let my potential blossom.
This signifies that, like a tree that grows deeper and stronger roots to survive in barren soil, I too became more resilient without abandoning my dreams, even in challenging circumstances. When life’s opportunities came knocking, I resolved to seize them without hesitation or delay. I have strived fiercely in every moment. This attitude gave me the confidence to move toward my goals no matter the circumstances, ultimately becoming the driving force that enables me to give my best in everything.
This disposition has persisted from my immature school days through adulthood and into my current life in society. In the IT field, where one must constantly learn rapidly changing technologies and information, the mindset of relentlessly honing myself while remembering my original aspirations has become a significant asset. Especially now, working in the very field I once so desperately desired, living more complacently than my past self is something I absolutely cannot tolerate. Therefore, even today, I keep that past urgency in my heart and give my utmost to every task given to me.
Having passed through a time when I couldn’t even properly express my interests, I now take pride in achieving success in a field I love. I intend to continue walking this path with unwavering sincerity. My steps toward my dreams will never stop, just as they never have.

View on Life

I believe people have lives and tastes as varied as the colors of the rainbow. As a child, I could never understand my parents’ life—how they built a solid fence to protect our traditional culture and family business, barring the casual influx of new external technologies or ideas. Back then, I would often seek refuge at my uncle’s house, where I could finally immerse myself in the studies I craved. But as time passed and the scope of my life gradually broadened, I slowly came to realize that my parents’ way was also a form of life they had chosen, and the sincerity and effort within it could never be taken lightly.
People possess different personalities and values, and the paths they pursue in life are equally varied. That is why we walk different roads, and it is precisely this diversity that makes the world more colorful and abundant. Some live lives upholding tradition, while others pursue lives of change. And people are doing their best in their own positions, in their own ways. I have only now come to accept that this is the most ideal form of life. A life that respects each person’s unique color, not uniform standards, and finds meaning within it. I believe that is truly the value we should strive for.

Reasons for Applying and Future Aspirations

As a child, despite my somewhat conservative father’s opposition to my pursuing the family business, I cautiously began moving toward my dream career path, influenced by my uncle who worked at a cutting-edge IT company. Rather than conforming to my parents’ environment, where they were unfamiliar with modern technology like computers, I actively sought ways to realize my passion by carving out my own path. This experience demonstrated not merely a pursuit of interest, but a clear resolve to never easily abandon my goals, regardless of circumstances. I felt this attitude aligns with your company’s spirit of embracing market changes without fear, continuously challenging the status quo and driving innovation. It is this shared belief that motivates my application.
Should I have the opportunity to work with your company, I pledge to dedicate myself fully to my duties, leveraging the diverse knowledge and experience I have accumulated thus far, even if I still have areas for growth. I will not retreat in the face of real-world challenges but instead use them as stepping stones for self-improvement, continuously learning and refining myself. Particularly, my attitude of maintaining my own center and advancing with integrity, without being swayed by others’ opinions or expectations, will apply not only to my work but equally to all interpersonal relationships and conduct within the organization. I wish to grow alongside your company’s vision with a solid and sincere attitude, fulfilling my responsibilities in my assigned role. Based on this resolve, I aim to establish myself as a talent who can make tangible contributions to your company.
