My Growth Journey
Growing up, I helped my father with farming, observing the changing natural landscapes throughout the seasons and the flow of life thriving within them up close. Our family wasn’t well-off, so being a child didn’t exempt me from helping with the work. If someone could carry a load or lend even a little strength, everyone was called upon to lend a hand. But rather than resenting that situation, perhaps because I had lived that way since childhood, I accepted it naturally. I always approached work proactively, driven by the desire to finish the given tasks quickly.
Especially since even my much younger sibling often joined us in the fields with their tiny hands, I felt a sense of responsibility as the older brother. I would push myself harder, believing I needed to exert even greater effort. My father learned farming from my grandfather, who in turn inherited the skills from my great-grandfather. Raised in that tradition, I believed farming would naturally become my path too, and I accepted it as my rightful place.
But one day, when my father said, “Now you must go to the city to study,” I was honestly very surprised. To me, the ‘city’ was a vague and distant future. I had always thought my life would be spent simply living with my family in my hometown. But my father decided he couldn’t tie my destiny to the fields and made the choice to let me walk a new path. Looking back now, entrusting me to relatives living in the city must have been a decision requiring great courage and investment on his part. Though the calluses on my hands, hardened from farm work, hadn’t yet worn away, the heavy burden of being ‘the one who must build a new future for the family’ had already settled on my shoulders.
Even when friends around me talked about going off to distant schools one by one, I’d just let it pass as someone else’s story. Now, I was the one leaving my hometown, tasked with adapting and growing in an unfamiliar environment. Amidst the shock, resolve, and overwhelming uncertainty of that time, a small flutter of excitement about this new path was definitely present within me. And so, holding onto the innocence of a child while shouldering responsibility and expectations, I headed for the city. Looking back, that moment was a crucial turning point that changed the direction of my life.
School Life
Leaving the hometown I had lived in for so long and adapting and growing in an unfamiliar environment proved far more difficult than I had imagined. From familiar daily habits to speech patterns and ways of life, minor differences felt alien. The dazzling cityscape, so bright it made my eyes widen, was utterly different from the quiet nights of my hometown, shrouded in deep darkness. Sometimes, that strangeness would wake me from my sleep.
My father, too, couldn’t have been at ease sending his eldest son so far away. Knowing his heart, I tried desperately not to utter a single word of weakness. With the resolve that ‘if I cannot even overcome this loneliness on my own, I cannot grow into an adult,’ I held myself together moment by moment and persevered. The reality that my parents, to whom I could act childish, were no longer by my side, led to a sense of responsibility that I had to mature faster than anyone else. From a certain point onward, even a single letter flown in from home would easily bring tears to my eyes.
But I couldn’t afford to waste time wallowing in such emotions. The other children were already far ahead of me in their studies, and to catch up, I had no choice but to carve out every spare moment to throw myself into my work. To not let down all the effort and expectations my father had invested in me, merely achieving ‘average’ grades was woefully insufficient. I dreamed of being recognized as exceptionally talented, becoming the pride of my family, and returning home triumphantly. To achieve that dream, I lived each day busily.
Looking back on that time, it was a period steeped in loneliness, yet simultaneously filled with relentlessly busy and intense days. Had I had even a little leisure, I might have succumbed to sentimentality, pitied myself, and fallen into depression. But the reality that left no room for idle daydreaming actually allowed me to focus entirely on my studies. That busy life became the precious foundation that enabled me to grow day by day.
Looking back, that period was as arduous as it was invaluable. It was precisely because I endured those lonely times, comforting myself along the way, that I feel I can exist as I am today. My school years weren’t merely a time for studying. They were a record of growth, of facing my inner weaknesses and quietly overcoming them.
Personality Introduction
Reaching my current position was not solely my own achievement. It was a life spent constantly striving to repay, even in small ways, the invaluable support of my family who always stood firmly behind me. Especially, thanks to my father’s decisiveness and unstinting support, I was able to leave the countryside as a child and move to the city. That choice became a crucial turning point in my life today. Adapting to city life, I studied fiercely, and through that effort, I reached my current position.
Yet the reason I could push myself relentlessly, sprinting at full speed without pause, was not merely for self-satisfaction. Deep within my heart, my family was always there. My parents who believed in me and waited patiently, my father’s quiet dedication supporting me from behind, and the care packages sent from the countryside after I started living alone, filled with side dishes and ingredients prepared with such devotion. Each and every one of these became a great comfort and driving force for me. The kimchi they made themselves, the side dishes—each one brimming with my family’s care and love. That’s why, with every meal, I could refocus my heart and renew my resolve to live more diligently.
Looking back, it’s no exaggeration to say that my very existence, from the moment I was born until now, has been entirely shaped by my family’s hands. That’s why I could never easily give up in the face of any hardship. I’ve always charged forward, determined never to fall behind or quit. Because every moment was precious, I never let my guard down. I devoted myself to everything, earnestly hoping the achievements I gained would bring my family small joys.
Thus, I believe a person’s value isn’t solely defined by their own achievements, but is strengthened by the steadfast presence of those who silently stand behind them. The time spent together under the name of family, sharing both tears and laughter, has become the center of my life. I will continue forward, never forgetting this belief.
Life Philosophy
I want to live a life where I don’t feel ashamed of my birth circumstances, but rather take pride in them. Among those like me, born and raised in the countryside, I’ve often seen people gloss over or completely avoid mentioning their hometown. But to me, my hometown is more than just the place I was born. I believe the soil there nurtured me, and it is thanks to that place that I exist today. That’s why such an attitude was hard for me to understand. Instead, I have always spoken openly and proudly about my father’s occupation and our family circumstances. I felt this was the attitude I should have, having grown up with my family’s full support.
My choice of career path is not unrelated to this. The experiences I gained from helping my father with farm work since childhood are not mere memories to me; they became the foundation of my life. The desire to utilize those experiences led me down this path, and this choice carries a deep respect for my father’s work. I take pride in my background, environment, and everyone I’ve encountered within it. I have no desire to hide or feel ashamed of it. Rather, I believe all of that background has shaped who I am today and will be my most valuable asset guiding me forward.
Motivation for Application and Aspirations After Joining
Growing up helping my father with farming, I naturally absorbed the softness of the soil and the abundant vitality inherent in the land. I never feel ashamed of my rural upbringing; instead, I am grateful that those experiences helped me clearly define the direction of my life. They became the crucial foundation that sparked my interest in the fertilizer field and led me to seriously explore work in this sector. The work of enhancing soil productivity and helping crops grow more abundantly transcends mere research; it is directly tied to farmers’ livelihoods, instilling in me a profound sense of mission. I felt this interest and direction of mine resonated deeply with your company’s philosophy of relentlessly researching and practicing to preserve the vitality of the soil. That shared understanding and conviction became the very reason for this application.
Should your company grant me this research opportunity, I pledge not to remain confined to theoretical perfection within the laboratory. Instead, I will persistently pursue research while constantly considering the perspective of farmers who must practically apply these findings. This is because even results perfectly validated in the lab can encounter entirely different practical challenges when applied to actual farmland and the process of cultivating crops. As both a researcher and a member of a farming family, I deeply understand the mindset of farmers who face the land and crops daily. Thinking of my father, who still works tirelessly in the fields, reinforces my conviction that a farmer’s concerns are my own. This understanding allows me to approach research with greater sincerity, believing it is both a personal fulfillment and a path to contributing to society.
Moving forward, I wish to dedicate myself to research that provides tangible benefits, ensuring the land—the foundation of life—becomes more abundant. I am convinced this is a positive interpretation of my background and a valuable endeavor that will give meaning to my life. I firmly believe that joining your company will allow me to solidify this dream, which is why I am applying here with sincere dedication.
