This blog post introduces how to effectively craft a medical technologist resume that showcases your unique experiences, skills, and genuine passion.
Growth Process
I still consider my parents my closest friends and role models. They always emphasized two things to me: ‘Take responsibility for your own affairs’ and ‘Own the problems you choose to tackle.’ They raised me with quite strict standards in these areas. From a young age, learning to handle my own responsibilities and own the outcomes of my choices fostered an independent and proactive nature.
School Days
My childhood passion for building toys fueled a growing fascination with creating, disassembling, and reassembling things. Throughout school, whenever friends’ devices broke, they’d bring them to me first. I’d examine them like an expert, study the issues, and return the devices fully repaired. This process always ignited my passion; it was both fascinating and enjoyable. Wanting to become independent quickly with these skills, I chose a different path than my peers and attended an industrial high school. For three years, I studied with real enthusiasm and acquired technical skills. Around graduation, encouraged by a teacher, I decided to go to university, wanting to study more fields and broaden my knowledge. At university, I studied diverse subjects and built a foundation for understanding the wider world through broad human relationships.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Meeting people and having conversations gives me another kind of strength. Some might assume that since I know the satisfaction of assembling and building devices alone—and actually enjoy that work—I must prefer solitude. However, while interaction with machines offers a sense of accomplishment, meeting people brings a different kind of joy: satisfaction through emotional connection. That’s why when I meet people, I tend to share my own thoughts first and focus on creating an atmosphere where others feel comfortable speaking. Conversation isn’t just about me enjoying talking; it requires mutual engagement. So I set aside my ego, ease any stiffness in the relationship, and create an atmosphere where the other person feels comfortable speaking.
This strength directly translated to my service during my part-time job. While handling A/S requests at the counter, I noticed most people who came to me shared common ground: frustration and irritation. Therefore, I made it a point to greet them with a smile first, ask if they were having a hard time with their inconvenience, and enjoyed the process of seeing customers unwind through my empathy. As this process repeated, my counter always had many customers, and I gained repeat visitors and those who specifically mentioned my name in their praise messages. During my part-time work, I was even selected as the only Employee of the Month.
Of course, paying attention to these little details can be tiring at times, and it takes more time and effort than just saying what’s necessary at home. But I believe that through this process, focusing on increasing customer satisfaction is my calling, and it seems the result of always doing my best.
Work Experience (or experience demonstrating job skills)
Through my industrial high school program, I gained practical field experience and technical skills with actual machinery. This background allowed me to provide hands-on assistance to professors conducting research at university, leading to numerous opportunities to participate in various research projects and experiments after enrollment. While balancing lab life, I worked on the ○○○ and ○○○ projects. By graduation, I had developed and presented a device through the ○○○ project, which I conceived and planned myself.
Motivation for Application and Aspirations
While assisting the professor with experiments, he frequently brought me along to numerous meetings. This allowed me to meet many professionals from various related fields. One day, I received a somewhat unfamiliar business card from someone belonging to a ‘Medical Engineering Team’. It was a meeting with someone working in the Medical Engineering Team at ○○ Hospital, who vividly shared various application cases using medical devices and their experiences in the field. That meeting and the role of a biomedical engineer somehow stuck with me. I later sought them out again to learn more about the detailed work and required qualifications. The idea that I could help patients with their illnesses through machinery felt profoundly meaningful. Realizing that my knowledge and practical experience in machinery—an area I enjoy and excel at—would be a significant asset, I knew immediately this was the career I had been searching for.
I possess the fundamental qualities of diligence and the ability to identify and execute my responsibilities. Furthermore, through my education at an industrial high school and university, I have acquired specialized knowledge. The thought that these qualities could be used for patients and hospitals, that my small efforts and skills could be used to save lives, already fills me with overwhelming emotion. I sincerely wish to join the dedicated biomedical engineering team at ○○ Hospital, where I can learn with a constant attitude of effort, work diligently with a sense of mission as part of the medical profession, and contribute my skills.
