What qualities make someone a good fit for an insect research institute, and how can you convey them in your application essay?

This blog post introduces methods for naturally and persuasively incorporating core competencies—such as physical stamina, patience, and creativity—suited for an insect research institute into your application essay.

My Upbringing

My parents always emphasized, “When faced with a problem, you should become someone who can view it from various perspectives and seek solutions accordingly, rather than seeking only a single answer.” Raised under this educational philosophy, I naturally developed a multifaceted way of thinking and formed the habit of viewing the world with a broader perspective.
My parents provided me with diverse opportunities to expand my thinking through wide-ranging experiences. Experiential and training activities were not merely one-time special experiences; they significantly impacted not only my intellectual growth but also my physical stamina and character. In particular, I gained leadership skills through various activities, naturally learning how to collaborate with others and take responsibility.
Although frequent moves during my childhood meant I often had to transfer schools, these changes actually shaped me into a flexible and adaptable person. I believe my ability to quickly make friends in unfamiliar environments stems from the social skills and open-minded attitude formed through diverse experiences.
One reason I could move forward without wavering through life’s challenges was the presence of my parents. They have always been my most steadfast supporters and advocates. However, when I faced problems, they didn’t solve them directly for me; instead, they guided me to find the answers myself. As a child, I sometimes envied seeing other parents do everything for their children. But looking back now, I realize that approach was crucial in helping me grow into an independent and proactive person. I am simply grateful.
These experiences often make me think that someday, I too want to become a helper who can be a source of strength for someone else. My long-held dream has been to become someone valuable to society, rather than simply pursuing personal success. That’s why I always look around me, considering where I might be needed and how I can be helpful.
Thanks to this attitude, I’ve been able to communicate smoothly and build trust with members in the organizations and communities I belong to, sometimes naturally taking on leadership roles. As a leader, I prioritize understanding and considering each member’s perspective over asserting authority, valuing a collaborative approach. This leadership style can be fully applied within your company, and I aim to grow into a talent who can contribute to your vision and goals through it.
Moving forward, I will continue to grow based on my own experiences and values, striving to become someone who positively impacts society. I wish to take that first step with your company.

School Days

During my school days, I yearned for diverse experiences in university life. That’s when I heard about the ‘National Trek’ event hosted by ○○○. My older brother had participated in the National Trek during high school, and his deeply tanned face and noticeably more mature appearance left a strong impression on me. Harboring a vague admiration for that experience, I filled out and submitted my application the very day I heard about the event.
That experience was a truly intense time, one where I poured my entire youth into it. Day after day, amidst endless walking and sweltering heat, I tested my own limits and learned how to overcome myself through that process. Gaining the courage to endure and overcome difficult situations was also a major achievement. Above all, the presence of friends walking together toward the same goal was a tremendous source of strength. The friendships naturally formed during that grueling journey were truly special. Perhaps it was because of the sweat and tears we shared in those challenging times. That’s why I still keep in touch with the friends I walked with then, often sharing memories of that time.
Additionally, during my university years, I participated in a team project as part of a general education course. Given the nature of the course, students from diverse majors were grouped together. Initially, I thought it would be more efficient for students within the same major to form teams and leverage their specialized knowledge. However, the professor intentionally assigned students from different majors to each group, and that decision proved to be profoundly meaningful throughout the entire project.
As we progressed through the project, I came to deeply appreciate the importance of ‘multifaceted thinking,’ something my parents had emphasized since I was young. Even when tackling the same topic, the approaches and interpretations varied completely depending on the major, and this diversity actually broadened the scope of problem-solving. That experience awakened me to the value of convergent thinking and became an opportunity to break free from fixed perspectives and attempt a shift in thinking.
This realization has become a precious asset in my life. Moving forward, I will use this experience as a foundation, striving to produce the best results in any task through creative and flexible thinking. Beyond simply completing assignments or participating in events, these experiences have helped me grow and view the world with a broader perspective. I believe all these moments combined have shaped who I am today.

Hobbies

I take pride in my robust physical stamina and tenacious perseverance. Believing that physical strength underpins any endeavor, I regularly enjoy hiking. As I ascend through lush forests, breathing in the fresh air, I find the complex thoughts cluttering my mind gradually fade away, leaving me with a refreshingly clear sense of purpose.
Hiking is more than just physical activity; it’s an exercise demanding consistent stamina and unwavering perseverance. As I take each step toward the summit, I sometimes struggle with shortness of breath and aching legs. Yet, the sense of accomplishment upon overcoming those hurdles and finally reaching the top is indescribable. Through hiking, I’ve cultivated not only physical strength but also the vital qualities of tenacity and patience.
This cultivated stamina and perseverance greatly benefit not only my daily life but also my work performance. The unwavering commitment to assigned tasks and the determination to see them through to the end are invaluable assets hiking has gifted me.
Moving forward, I will approach any task with responsibility, leveraging this hardened stamina and steadfast diligence. I am confident that I can perform my duties at your company with the utmost sincerity, perseverance, and physical endurance.
