My Journey of Growth

“Finding What I Could Immerse Myself In”
Throughout my growth, I constantly pondered, “What can I truly immerse myself in?” and strived to find the answer.
From a young age, I was easily bored. School felt stifling—a repetitive cycle of attending classes, studying, going to cram school after school, then returning home to sleep. While time spent with friends or reading books was certainly valuable, it was hard to truly feel ‘joy’ or ‘immersion’.
So, I tried various things through hobbies to find something genuinely enjoyable and immersive. After entering middle school, I started playing sports for the first time. Among them, basketball was an activity that gave me a special experience. Sweating it out playing basketball felt incredibly satisfying—it relieved stress and built my stamina.
Being shorter than most of my peers, I threw myself into basketball even more, hoping to grow taller and improve my athletic skills. Playing games with friends on a team taught me teamwork, and I naturally grew more interested in the game itself. At some point, it went beyond just playing; I wanted to know more about basketball, watching games and researching players. I enjoyed spending time with interested friends discussing basketball and playing online basketball games together.
This shows that when I become immersed in something, I find meaning within it and actively invest time to enjoy it.
Once I became a high school student, my interest in basketball gradually waned compared to before. Of course, I still enjoyed playing sports with friends, but I began to feel I wanted to spend my time on something more ‘meaningful’.
Studying was something everyone had to do, but I thought, ‘If I major in something I don’t like, there could be nothing more miserable.’ So, during high school, I paid close attention to various classes and activities to find a field I could genuinely be interested in.
During that process, I encountered a unit in Korean class covering ‘advertising,’ and that lesson resonated with me. I found it incredibly appealing that advertising wasn’t just a simple promotional tool, but a creative endeavor that moved people’s emotions and thoughts. Naturally, I developed an interest in advertising and wanted to try creating ad materials myself. I researched advertising-related careers and learned about the actual planning and production processes, gradually solidifying my career path.
Throughout high school, I maintained my interest and passion for advertising, which ultimately led me to decide to major in Advertising and Public Relations. Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t just trying to find something I liked; I was searching for a direction where I could immerse myself and feel a sense of accomplishment. And in that process, I learned that ‘being immersed in something’ is more than just a hobby; it’s an important value that shapes the direction of one’s life. Moving forward, I aim to continue growing through work I enjoy and can immerse myself in.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality

One of the characteristics people notice most when meeting me for the first time is my ‘manner of speaking’. I usually have a clear, loud voice and tend to pronounce words accurately. Thanks to my habit of enunciating each syllable distinctly, I’ve even been suggested for careers like broadcasting or voice acting. I believe this speaking style stems from my inherently confident personality. I strive to maintain a confident demeanor in any situation and with anyone I meet. That energy, often called “unfounded confidence,” is simply a natural part of who I am.
If someone asks, “Why are you so confident?” I find it hard to pinpoint a clear reason. But I believe that simply being satisfied with and accepting of oneself is enough to cultivate confidence. That’s why I strive to maintain an attitude of speaking and acting confidently in any situation. This approach ultimately enables smooth communication with others. Conversely, those lacking confidence and feeling withdrawn tend to drift away from the center of communication.
I believe that someone who can actively engage in conversation with others and clearly convey their own opinions is a true ‘master of communication’. That’s why I make a habit of not neglecting speaking practice and having many conversations with those around me. I think this goes beyond simple speaking ability and leads to communication skills grounded in confidence.
However, while confidence acts as an advantage in this way, it can also lead to disadvantages. Excessive confidence can sometimes manifest as stubbornness. I, too, have moments where I assert my opinions strongly to the point of appearing stubborn, causing discomfort to those around me. Yet, since the world is filled with people possessing as many diverse thoughts and perspectives as I do, prioritizing only my own opinion clearly has its problems.
Therefore, whenever such situations arise, I make a conscious effort to listen to the other person’s perspective first. Even if I firmly believe my own argument is correct, the other person also has their own well-founded opinion. I strive to adopt an attitude of seeking compromises whenever possible or resolving issues in a way that respects the other person’s position. I pay particular attention to this during meetings or when sharing ideas.
Confidence is undoubtedly a powerful weapon and a significant advantage. However, I’ve come to realize that the effort to moderate it so it doesn’t come across to others as stubbornness or arrogance is equally important. Moving forward, I want to maintain my own confident manner of speaking while building deeper relationships with a wider range of people through a balanced communication style that respects the thoughts of others.

Major Field

“Understanding Consumers and Marketing through Advertising and Public Relations”
During my university years, I majored in Advertising and Public Relations. My interest in advertising began in high school, and I gradually built my skills by participating in advertising contests with friends. I consistently worked to excel, particularly in advertising planning and idea generation, and developed a keen interest in crafting advertising copy. I cultivated my expertise by reading extensively on the subject.
After entering university, I learned the systematic theories of advertising and public relations. Through classes taught by professors with extensive practical experience in the field, I gained substantial knowledge and insights. This environment, where I could learn both theory and practice, was immensely beneficial and further fueled my interest in the field.
Among the various major subjects, I developed a deep interest in the areas of consumers and marketing. I immersed myself in courses centered on consumer behavior, consumer psychology, and identifying consumer needs. When assigned practical tasks or projects, I actively conducted market research to listen to the voices from the field. By analyzing target audiences based on information gathered through hands-on effort and then developing marketing strategies from that foundation, I experienced firsthand the importance and fascination of applying theory to real-world situations.
Through various academic papers, I confirmed that market research and consumer analysis are fundamental to developing marketing strategies. To deepen this understanding, I chose Business Administration as my double major. By taking practice-oriented courses like Organizational Management, Service Marketing, and Marketing Research, I gained a broad perspective on marketing.
Reading academic papers significantly strengthened my scholarly foundation. This is because papers not only provide deep knowledge on specific topics but also systematically teach methodologies for collecting and analyzing social data. This learning experience went beyond merely acquiring theory; it led to opportunities to apply it to real-world cases. As graduation approached, I synthesized the information I had gathered into a thesis, planning and analyzing it myself. This created a valuable outcome that bridges academia and practice.
Through my major in Advertising and Public Relations, I learned not merely ‘the techniques of creating advertisements,’ but also consumer-centric thinking and the ability to formulate marketing strategies. I am confident this experience will be a crucial foundation for my future career. This journey of contemplating messages that move people’s hearts, standing on the bridge connecting advertising, marketing, and consumers, continues to this day.

Work Experience

During my university years, majoring in Advertising and Public Relations allowed me to build a solid foundation in both theory and practice. Simultaneously, serving as Vice President of a university-wide advertising club provided me with diverse hands-on experience. My primary responsibilities as Vice President included leading club planning meetings and coordinating task distribution for external projects to ensure efficient execution.
Our club actively participated in external advertising competitions and university-wide collaborative projects, maintaining a vibrant external presence. Within these activities, I played a central role in fostering collaboration among members. Particularly, by understanding the personalities of club members and the characteristics of the organization to encourage teamwork, I personally experienced that the core of leadership lies in understanding people and communication. This was a valuable experience that went beyond simply completing tasks, providing a deep understanding of relationship building within an organization where people collaborate.
Building on these college experiences, I joined the marketing department at ○○○ Company after graduation. There, I was responsible for managing the ‘Research Academy’. This was a separate internal training program, and as its manager, I handled various administrative tasks as well as overseeing all research operations.
I particularly honed my practical marketing skills by directly participating in internal promotional projects and executing actual research tasks. I also contributed to planning the Research Academy’s educational programs and actively pursued all opportunities offered by the company, including completing a service instructor training course for internal employee education.
Through these experiences, I developed not only the practical skills essential for marketing and research work but also well-rounded abilities in collaboration within an organization, planning, and execution. Moving forward, I aim to leverage these experiences to demonstrate more specialized capabilities in the field of promotion and marketing. At your company, I will grow into a diligent and capable marketing professional based on my accumulated practical experience and learning.
