What kind of sentiment should be conveyed when writing a wedding officiant speech?

This blog post introduces various sample speeches and explores what kind of sentiment should be conveyed to deliver a moving wedding officiant speech.

A Promise of Love and Life

Today, despite the cold weather, I sincerely thank all the distinguished guests, both men and women, who have come here to celebrate the marriage of the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○. I feel deeply honored to be entrusted with officiating at such an important occasion. While my life experience is still limited, it is thanks to my special connection with the groom, Mr. ○○○, as his high school homeroom teacher that I stand here today. I humbly ask for your kind understanding.
During high school, the groom, Mr. ○○○, studied diligently without yielding to difficult circumstances. He achieved outstanding academic results and was praised by many teachers as an honest and exemplary student. As a result, he has grown into a healthy and dependable young man, establishing himself as a wonderful person who fulfills his role and duties as a member of society.
Meanwhile, the bride, ○○○, received an equally excellent upbringing at home, cultivating virtue, humility, and grace to blossom into a beautiful woman of character. The union of these two young people in marriage is undoubtedly a great joy for both families and society. Today, beyond my official role as officiant, I wish to share some words of advice with the bride and groom as their homeroom teacher.
Marriage is a relationship where a man and woman, raised in different backgrounds and environments, come together, share affection, and live as a shared destiny. Marriage signifies not merely the fruit of love, but also a process of supporting each other, cooperating, and growing together. Therefore, marriage holds profound significance in life, and when we hold a wedding ceremony, we offer many words of wisdom to the bride and groom. Words like “cultivate virtue, honor your parents, cherish each other with love, and live with humility and patience in society” are all wise, but I wish to emphasize ‘filial piety’ and ‘health’ in particular.
When you become a couple, you have children and raise them. In the process of raising those children, you come to understand the pain and effort your own parents endured. Consider how parents, too, must have poured their wholehearted devotion into raising their children out of love. When you truly grasp your parents’ love and dedication, a natural sense of filial piety arises, and this heart is passed on to your own children, continuing into the next generation. This is the very foundation of filial piety. The harmony of family and society begins with this filial piety, and morality stands firm upon this foundation.
Today, in our rapidly changing times, individualism is rampant and nuclear families are becoming the norm, causing the concept of filial piety to gradually fade. Nevertheless, the relationship between parents and children is a natural bond, an unbreakable human duty that cannot be violated even if the world ends. Never forget your duty to your parents, and may that heart remain steadfast.
Furthermore, I wish to speak about the importance of courage. Courage stems from strength. The foundation of that strength is health. When a couple is healthy, peace and happiness overflow in the home, and vitality and the wisdom to overcome hardships arise in daily life. Conversely, losing health weakens strength and courage, which can threaten the peace and happiness of the family. The will to live can be lost, and one may become a defeated person in life. Therefore, I hope you never give in and always possess the courage to overcome any adversity and hardship.
Finally, I thank you all for listening to my words, spoken from my still limited life experience. I pray that the future of the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, be filled with blessings. I thank everyone once more for gracing this occasion, and as the officiant, I conclude my remarks.

Wedding Officiant Speech

Good afternoon.
Today is a day as clear and beautiful as the happy faces of the groom and bride. I hope all the distinguished guests gathered here today will leave filled with the same happy energy as you embrace this special moment.
When we marry, we choose this path because we love each other so deeply that we cannot bear to be apart even for a single day. We promise to love each other and stay together for life. Yet sometimes, that promise seems hard to keep. We may feel like enemies, or face frustrating moments when things don’t go as planned. Why is that?
I believe it’s because many people tend to view marriage as a tool to get something from their partner. They want to receive love from their partner and end up wanting more. Naturally, they start weighing conditions and their desire for something better grows.
But true love is about giving. What matters most in marriage is first thinking about what I can give to my partner. If we focus less on what we can receive and more on how we can bring joy to each other, our relationship will always remain peaceful and loving. This giving should not be one-sided; it should be a relationship where both spouses give to each other.
Of course, doing this isn’t easy. We are all human, so there will be moments when we feel dissatisfied with each other or get hurt. At such times, it’s important to shift our thinking and try to view our partner with a positive heart. If we remember this mindset and keep it in mind, it can help reduce the various conflicts that might arise.
Ultimately, everything depends on how we perceive it. Even when facing the same situation, our reactions can vary greatly depending on our mindset. If we approach every encounter with a positive attitude and affection, even minor differences in perception can create significant change.
There’s a figure often featured in comedy sketches today, known as the ‘Happiness Evangelist’. Their core message is precisely about maintaining a positive attitude. Cultivating positive reactions habitually in daily life allows us to maintain inner peace even in difficult situations. The same applies to married life. While countless challenges will arise over time, the most crucial thing during those times is a positive mindset.
Today, I shared two messages with the bride and groom. The first is to hold positive feelings for each other and strive to give to one another. Second, never forget this heart; cherish it always as you live your lives. Doing so will fill your home with love, making your time together even more precious and filled with happy moments.
I sincerely congratulate the groom and bride on their new beginning and conclude my wedding speech here. May you all have a blessed day.

The Couple’s New Beginning

First, I express my deepest gratitude to the groom’s father for entrusting this inadequate person with officiating today. And I sincerely congratulate the couple on their marriage, as they form a new family today, receiving the blessings of the elders from both families and all the guests gathered at this meaningful occasion. On this day, with the sky high and clear, showing us perfect autumn weather, I extend my gratitude on behalf of both families to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to attend and grace the wedding of the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○.
We also extend our gratitude to all of you who have honored us with your presence today. We convey our deepest appreciation to the parents of both families who raised the groom and bride with love and care. We pray that happiness fills this new home the couple is starting together, and it is a great honor to officiate this beautiful wedding ceremony today.
Seeing the couple’s wedding ceremony under this clear, sunny sky, it feels as if even the heavens are blessing their union. You might think I, with my shortcomings, have much to say. Yet, standing here as a senior who has lived a few years longer than the bride and groom, my heart is filled only with sincere blessings for their future.
Typically, wedding speeches are filled with lengthy exhortations to honor parents, strengthen bonds with siblings, and cherish and love one another. But standing here today, I realize such words may not resonate well with the bride and groom. Moreover, these are fundamental teachings everyone already knows. So today, I wish to offer just a few simple words of advice.
First, the most important virtue for a married couple is mutual respect and achieving harmony. The foundation of a happy married life is a harmonious relationship between the two people. Having grown up in different environments until now, you must now live together in a new environment. You may have different personalities and habits, but understanding and cherishing those differences is the vital force that sustains married life. May the groom always live with a heart to help the bride, and may the bride always live with a heart to help the groom.
Furthermore, just as deep waters gather many fish and dense forests shelter many birds, a home filled with love will always attract good people. This applies not only to the couple but to the entire household. It requires a heart that prioritizes and considers the other person over one’s own position. Such hearts coming together will build a stronger and warmer family.
And to all the guests gathered here today, I would also like to say a few words. You have come to celebrate the new beginning of these two individuals. But I ask that you do not stop at commemorating today’s wedding ceremony. Please continue to offer your warm interest and encouragement so that they may build a happy home together. When they face difficulties, please guide them with warm advice and encouragement, and always shine a bright light on their path ahead.
Once again, I sincerely congratulate the groom and bride on their marriage and wish their home to be filled with love and happiness. Please watch over their journey together with warm hearts.

Sample Wedding Officiant Speech

I sincerely congratulate Mr. ○○○ and Ms. ○○○ on their marriage. Today is a unique and special day in both of their lives. On behalf of the bride and groom, I extend heartfelt gratitude to all the guests who have joined us for this meaningful occasion, to both sets of parents who raised them so wonderfully, and to all their relatives and friends.
Now, surrounded by the blessings of all these people, they begin a new life together. Taking this opportunity today, as a senior who has celebrated ○○ years of marriage, I would like to offer a few words of advice. Not long ago, the bride and groom came to ask me to officiate their wedding after deciding to marry. Even then, as someone who’s been down this path, I shared many thoughts with them. But today, there’s something I feel compelled to reiterate.
Marriage is the union of two people, but it holds a deeper meaning. It is the meeting of two families. No matter how much you love and understand each other, two people raised in different environments will inevitably face conflicts as they build their life together. In those moments, people often try to stick to their own firm principles. But what’s truly important isn’t the mindset of “I’m right,” but rather the thought of “How can we move forward together?”
Many young people preparing for marriage say things like, “As a man, I should be the one to compromise.” But compromise doesn’t mean one side always sacrifices. True compromise only gains meaning when both parties willingly do it for each other. Rather than debating who should yield, what’s needed is a mindset always ready to willingly yield for the other person. That mindset will be the crucial key to resolving the crises and conflicts you’ll face in married life.
The most important thing in married life is the effort to think from the other person’s perspective and understand their heart. Even when conflicts arise, try to understand your partner’s feelings each time. If you respect each other’s positions and have a heart willing to give a little more and show consideration, your married life will walk a path of lasting happiness and stability.
The two of you now begin a long journey together as each other’s companions, supporting one another. I sincerely hope you become a couple who always cherish, respect, and never lose the heart to love each other. May your future be filled with endless happiness and blessings.
With that, I conclude the officiating. Once again, congratulations to the couple, and thank you all for sharing this special moment with us.

Sample Wedding Officiant Speech

Hello, everyone.
It is truly an honor to officiate on such an important day as today. I have much to say, but to avoid boring our guests, I will keep it brief enough for the bride and groom to remember. I will try to finish as quickly as possible, so please lend me your ears for a moment.
First, on behalf of the bride and groom, I extend our deepest gratitude to all the family members, relatives, and guests who have taken time out of your busy schedules to be here on this precious day. Your warm congratulations and support will be a great strength to them.
As someone who married before the bride and groom and as a senior in life, I sincerely congratulate them on building a family together. Marriage is not simply the union of two people. The joy of this wedding today belongs not only to the bride and groom, but to all relatives from both families, and to everyone who, though unable to attend, sends their congratulations from afar.
As the officiant, I would like to take this opportunity to make a request to everyone present. May this marriage be an occasion to resolve any past misunderstandings or conflicts, and may only good things come your way from now on.
Marriage is not always a sweet and smooth journey. The German poet Heinrich Heine likened marriage to a stormy sea, saying, “No compass has ever found its way across it.” Marriage is always about building on the past and moving forward together toward the future. The two of you must now think of each other as captain and navigator, cooperating to build a happy home. Communication is vital in married life. Resolve all matters through conversation, refrain from hurtful words, and adopt an attitude of considering and caring for each other’s perspective. At the same time, I hope you become a couple who can always encourage each other, saying “You’re doing great,” and share laughter.
And especially during difficult times, I hope you will have the heart to strengthen not only your own family bonds but also the affection between parents and siblings. Love and consideration within the family form the foundation for a happy home.
Finally, I want to share three important hearts mentioned in the Bible. First is “the heart of the beginning.” Do not forget the humility and sincerity you had at the start; continue your married life with a heart of mutual love. Second is “zeal.” Even when things get tough, I hope you won’t give up, but will strive diligently for each other and nurture your love to the very end. Third is “endurance.” I hope you will be each other’s steadfast support until the end of your married life.
To the bride and groom, I wish your married life always continues happily and healthily, and with that, I conclude my wedding speech. May you always laugh together and be happy.
Thank you.

Promise of Love

Thanks to my profession as a teacher, I have been asked to officiate weddings many times. Each time, my heart swells with joy as I celebrate the young couple’s new beginning. In those moments, my heart is always filled with emotion, and I know well that this emotion stems from the unique meaning inherent in the special occasion of a wedding. But I can confidently say that the wedding of the two people standing here today is more beautiful and special than any other wedding I have ever witnessed. I extend my deepest gratitude to all the guests who have joined us for this wonderful wedding today.
Looking at the two people standing before me, they no longer have the faces of the young people they once were. Back in their undergraduate days, they were more youthful and fresh-faced. Those memories come to mind, but ten years have transformed them into middle-aged adults. Nevertheless, their love is now far deeper and more profound than it was then. Instead of the passionate, fiery love of the past, their love is now like a flame that has matured over time – intense yet slow-burning and enduring. The look in their eyes when they gaze at each other is no longer just passion. What has taken root is affection, respect, and deep trust. Their love, forged through overcoming difficult times together, is now incredibly solid, and the lovely children standing beside them are proof of that love.
I have always told young couples this: Marriage is the most blessed event in life, and a happy married life is like the most beautiful fruit. But I also emphasized that the effort required to reap that fruit is absolutely essential. Most young people starting marriage know only the beginning of love; they often don’t fully understand the time and effort needed to nurture that love and bring it to fruition. However, to sustain that love for a long time, first, a heart that firmly believes in each other is necessary. Second, there must be the resolve to never break today’s vows, no matter what difficulties come. Third, it is crucial to maintain the mindset that all problems must be resolved through love and communication. And the couple standing here today are precisely those who have practiced all of this.
Even through difficult times and challenging circumstances, the husband steadfastly protected his family as its head, and the wife always trusted and followed him. Having passed the ten-year mark of marriage, these two have now borne the strongest and most enduring fruit of love. Today’s wedding ceremony is a meaningful occasion where that love is once again acknowledged before the guests. Seeing them stand here, holding each other’s hands firmly, I dare to offer my blessing. I believe that even if greater hardships come their way, even if any storms strike, they will continue to walk together, holding hands and looking into each other’s eyes, just as they do now.
Finally, I sincerely wish that the steadfast love of this couple standing before you will continue to grow deeper, and that their future will lead them down an even brighter and happier path. With this, I conclude my wedding officiant speech. Thank you.

Wedding Officiant Script

Hello, everyone. Today is a special and meaningful day as Mr. ○○○ and Ms. ○○○ celebrate their wedding in love and blessing. I sincerely thank all of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to gather here and bless this couple. It is a great honor to officiate this ceremony. As the officiant presiding over this sacred ceremony today, I would like to share a few heartfelt words with the bride and groom.
First, there is an old saying: ‘A harmonious family leads to success in all things.’ This means that when a family is harmonious, everything else falls into place smoothly. The most important thing for this is a heart of mutual respect. Marriage is the journey of two individuals, each with different backgrounds and personalities, building a single family together. In this journey, rather than insisting only on your own way, it is essential to adopt an attitude of consideration and understanding toward your partner. I hope you will cherish each other with hearts that respect, understand, and yield to one another, creating a beautiful and harmonious family. A husband and wife are like one body. When you unite your hearts together, you need not fear any hardship in this world.
You two are truly a well-matched pair, and I believe your married life will be very happy. However, difficult problems can sometimes arise during married life. In such situations, what matters most is trust and love for each other. If you always communicate with sincerity and earnestness, not only will problems be resolved, but your love for each other will actually grow deeper. Especially during difficult times, I hope you will always build understanding and trust through honest and sincere conversation.
You two will now lead a new family together after marriage. The most important virtues in this journey are sincerity and diligence. When you show dedication by making the most of the time and resources given to you, you will gain confidence in all matters and achieve good results. Furthermore, I hope your family will always be based on a life of truth and honesty, living with mutual consideration and respect.
The fact that you two stand here today is thanks to the immense love and sacrifice of both sets of parents. Never forget your parents’ love and teachings; always live with a grateful heart. You will honor all family members and relatives, including your parents, maintain harmony among siblings, and become people who earn the love and trust of those around you.
Today, the marriage of these two individuals is itself a beautiful union that brings blessings to many. All gathered here sincerely wish for them to live happily, surrounded by love and blessings. In your blessings, they will share joy and hope throughout every journey ahead, growing and developing together. May this family become a precious one that unites its strength, not only for the glory of the couple and their families, but also to be a small light for this nation, its people, and humanity. May they also become a couple who finds greater joy in life by serving their neighbors.
With this, I conclude today’s wedding address. Wishing happiness to fill the couple’s future, I once again congratulate them on their marriage.
Thank you.

Wedding Ceremony Address

First, to all the guests gathered here today, I am deeply moved and delighted to share this precious moment with you all on this warm spring day.
The two beautiful people standing here today chose each other from among countless others and decided to make a lifelong commitment at this very moment. With hearts full of celebration and blessing for that decision, let us all give them a hearty round of applause.
Because they have chosen each other and resolved to spend their entire lives together, I feel compelled to say a few words about that choice. Because they met through the mysterious power of love, I hope they will protect that love and nurture it ever deeper.
We are all different. Our backgrounds are different, our appearances are different, our personalities are different. So how did they choose each other among so many people? The reason is love. Love sometimes reveals aspects of each other we didn’t know, and through that, two people become deeply drawn to one another. And it is upon that love that they decide to build a future together. Some might jokingly say they’re “blinded by love,” but it’s also a happy moment everyone experiences at least once.
As a married person myself, I sincerely wish these two a happy future unfolding before them. Of course, the path won’t always be smooth. Conflicts or misunderstandings may arise at times. Whenever that happens, I hope they recall the flutter and affection they felt when they first met. May that beautiful first moment of recognizing and choosing each other always remain in their hearts.
In life, we face several crucial moments of choice. Among them, choosing a spouse is truly significant. The bittersweet feelings from their first meeting, the reasons they were drawn to each other, and the moment they decided to marry should become cherished memories to hold in their hearts forever. Whenever they fight or argue in the future, I hope they recall those feelings and remember their love for each other.
These two individuals have chosen each other as lifelong partners. The opportunity to choose someone else will never come again. Therefore, they must love and cherish each other, doing their utmost to build a happy future together.
May the choice made by the two individuals standing here today lead to a path free of regret, and may that choice bring them ever greater happiness in life. I pray their future is bright and filled with love, and that their married life is always wise and beautiful.
Thank you.
