What should be included in a wedding officiant’s speech to the bride and groom?

This blog post introduces sample wedding officiant speeches for the bride and groom. We hope it helps those seeking dignified and heartfelt words.

A Beautiful Partner Who Supports Each Other

Ladies and gentlemen, on this splendid and beautiful day, a couple more radiant than the weather itself stands before us. I sincerely congratulate you both on tying the knot on this sunny day.
I am deeply honored to officiate the marriage of such a splendid and lovely couple today, yet I also feel a certain weight in my heart. This is because I have been entrusted with recording this moment and offering prayers for your new family. Groom ○○ has been a faithful member since registering at our church in ○○ year, consistently serving in the choir and setting an exemplary example. When he mentioned having a girlfriend, I asked when they would marry and prayed earnestly while waiting. Whenever we met, he would jokingly ask, “When are you going to officiate my wedding?”
Today, I finally met the groom, Mr. ○○, and his beloved bride, Ms. ○○. I thought Ms. ○○ was truly a perfect bride, perfectly suited for Mr. ○○. They met while both faithfully serving God within the church, drawn to each other’s charm, and today they are married. As their pastor, I celebrate their marriage and feel immense joy and pride in my heart.
Throughout a lifetime, people meet and part ways with countless individuals, but how and whom we meet is profoundly important. Encounters do not simply end in that moment; they profoundly shape the lives that follow. Nothing truly precious in this world is ever given freely. When two loving people positively influence each other and diligently strive together for this purpose, their home will become ever more beautiful and joyful.
In the Bible, when Adam found his missing rib, he exclaimed, “This is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.” This was his confession that he had finally become a complete human being. No matter how outstanding a husband may be, he cannot become a complete human being without the presence of a wife. A wife is one who helps her husband and adds to his glory through him.
The two protagonists gathered here today, their families, and all the guests present are here for ‘marriage.’ Yet nowadays, many decide to marry simply because they have reached marriageable age, without truly understanding the meaning of marriage. Even among those here today, or perhaps the protagonists themselves, some may not grasp the true meaning of marriage. Therefore, we must all begin this journey only after accurately understanding what marriage truly is.
What does the Bible say marriage is? God created humans in His own image. Yet the Bible clearly states that this image was created as male and female. Marriage is not merely the union of a man and a woman; it embodies the purpose and practice of distinguishing the ‘image of God,’ as well as the essence of family life and happiness. In the Bible, the husband is to serve as the priestly head of the household, becoming the spiritual pillar of the family. The wife must provide spiritual support to help her husband become a steadfast man of God. When this happens, the couple will be able to enjoy eternal happiness.
Before marriage, parents filled in each other’s shortcomings, but now the bride and groom must live by filling each other’s deficiencies. They say wedding ceremonies should be brief, but while delivering this Sunday sermon, I found myself going on a bit longer than intended. However, I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to today’s protagonists and to both sets of parents who raised them with love. I pray that the Lord’s peace and blessings will always be with their family.
Through this wedding today, the two of you have embarked on a new journey. In the name of the Lord, I bless your marriage and conclude the officiating speech.
Finally, I sincerely pray that you will cherish and love each other, living a life that follows the Lord’s will.

A Couple Who Are Each Other’s Light

We sincerely congratulate the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, on their marriage.
First, we extend our deepest gratitude to the parents of both families who raised these two individuals upright and well for over twenty years. We also express our thanks to the many guests who have joined us here today despite their busy schedules. Amidst your blessings, the groom and bride have now become one family and a true couple.
Today, as a professor who taught both of them at ○○ University and as someone who celebrates this marriage more than anyone, I am deeply honored to officiate at this joyous occasion where they become one. Now, I would like to share some words I wish to convey to the groom and bride.
Today, I wish to say, “Be a lamp for each other.” The groom and bride have already been lamps for one another. A lamp emits its own light and shares that light with others. You have been sources of light for each other, and drawn by that light, you opened your hearts to one another. The groom felt attraction toward the bride, and the bride felt love for the groom. That light grew ever brighter, culminating today in this beautiful fruit of marriage.
But now, as husband and wife, they have a responsibility to shine that light in a different direction. They must become lamps that illuminate each other, not lamps that shine only for themselves. They must become each other’s light. Of course, there may be times when they wish to hide certain parts of themselves, or conceal certain feelings. But a married couple should hide nothing from each other. Instead, they should reveal themselves transparently so the other can see them more clearly. The groom must illuminate himself so the bride can see him better, and the bride must illuminate herself so the groom can see her better.
Becoming a married couple means that one person’s strengths and weaknesses now become both people’s. One person’s weaknesses become both people’s weaknesses, and one person’s strengths become both people’s strengths. Therefore, there is no reason for either to hide anything from the other. Strengths should be highlighted even more, and weaknesses should be worked on together.
A married couple is a partnership that guides each other toward becoming better people. When two individuals understand and respect each other, overcoming any hardship together, their home will always radiate a bright and warm light. And that light will not only illuminate the two of them, but also those around them, and even the world beyond.
May the bright smiles of the couple today illuminate their future, and with that, I conclude the ceremony.
Thank you very much.

Be a couple who give to each other

Today is truly a beautiful day, so much so that one naturally says May brides are the most beautiful. On this wonderful day, the couple is pledging a new beginning in life through the ceremony of marriage. First, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the parents of both families on this joyous occasion. I also express my deepest gratitude, on behalf of both families, to the relatives and guests who have honored us with their presence to celebrate this marriage.
The star of the wedding is the bride. True to her role, the bride today is radiant with beauty. Groom, doesn’t the bride look absolutely beautiful today? From now on, cherish and love her as beautifully as you do in this very moment, for the rest of your life.
Bride, how does the groom look today? Isn’t he truly handsome? Bride, you too, respect and love the groom with admiration for the rest of your life.
As we live our lives, there are moments when we feel this very instant is the happiest in the world. Yet, as time passes, it may sometimes feel like just a fleeting, trivial thing. That’s because life sometimes brings moments of hardship and exhaustion. But the bride and groom must remember this one thing: who is by your side during those very moments of hardship and exhaustion. The bride is by the groom’s side, and the groom is by the bride’s side. These two are now beings who must cherish, love, and care for each other for the rest of their lives.
So, what is the most important thing when becoming a couple and living together? It is ‘compromise’. Two people raised in different families will inevitably have differences of opinion. These differences can range from minor to very significant matters. However, while acknowledging that they can be different, they must not see those differences as wrong. Once they realize neither is wrong, the next step becomes much easier.
Now, the couple must learn to compromise. What matters isn’t who took one step or two steps back. As lifelong partners, what truly counts is feeling that problems are resolved through mutual give-and-take. As you compromise with each other, respect naturally grows, and over time, that respect blossoms into love. Ultimately, as time passes, your relationship will deepen under the names of love and respect.
As someone who has walked this path before you, I wish to share just one piece of advice. Remember just one word more than many others: ‘compromise’. That single word will make your married life more beautiful and joyful. I sincerely congratulate you both on your marriage and wish your journey ahead to always be filled with love and happiness.
Thank you.

Be gentle people who care for each other

As we welcome May, the queen of seasons, on this clear and beautiful day, groom ○○○ and bride ○○○ have gathered family, friends, colleagues, and many seniors and juniors to begin a new journey in life, creating this meaningful occasion. I stand here today not as the officiant, but as a senior colleague and a senior in life, with a trembling heart, wishing that their journey together will be filled with the beautiful fragrance of love.
Furthermore, on behalf of both families, I sincerely thank all the guests who have taken time out of your busy schedules to share this important moment with us. Your warm support and blessings will be a great strength to the couple.
Now, the two of you stand at the starting point of a new life. I would like to share a few words prepared for this occasion. First, I sincerely congratulate Mr. ○○○ and Ms. ○○○ on their marriage. May your life together always be filled with happiness. And as time passes, many years from now, when asked, “If we were reborn, could we love each other again?” I sincerely hope you will be able to answer without hesitation, “We will be each other’s guiding light and spend our entire lives together.”
And what I ask of you both is to become gentle people. A gentle heart is one that cares for and loves each other. Even if I want meat today, but my partner wants noodles, respecting that wish and willingly sharing the joy of eating noodles together is gentleness. More than grand gestures, it’s the thoughtful, warm heart that cares for the other in even the smallest things that matters. I hope your love grows each other’s happiness through such small acts of consideration.
On the path you walk together, I pray every moment is filled with love, overflowing with consideration and respect. Once again, I sincerely congratulate you both on your marriage. May the road ahead always shine with your love, and may the path you walk together become your eternal companionship.
Thank you.

Be a couple who express their hearts first

Hello, everyone. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the groom, whom I love sincerely, and to the bride, the most beautiful and wise woman in this world.
You two chose a day when the sky was high and the wind was favorable, a season when the whole world was filled with the fragrance of flowers and fresh buds, to pledge your eternal love before both sets of parents and all your relatives and friends. I pray that your marriage, in this very moment, gathers all the energy of the world to be blessed, and I offer my sincere congratulations.
A groom with a warm heart, a bride with a pure spirit. Their meeting was woven by a mysterious and profound thread of fate, stretching through infinite time and space without beginning or end. That very thread has now, in this place today, bound them together as husband and wife. Now, the responsibility and duty to nurture this precious bond into something even more beautiful, and to make their love even more precious, has been entrusted to them. Therefore, as the officiant, I wish to share a few words of advice.
First, express your love. Love that is not expressed is not love. In the moment you express your love through words and actions, you will both be swept into an ocean of happiness. When the morning sun illuminates your bedroom, face each other and declare “I love you” aloud. When you chance upon beauty in daily life, share your feelings of love by text or call, expressing “This is moving.”
Also, show your love through greetings and gifts to your father-in-law and mother-in-law, father-in-law and mother-in-law, and during important events for both families. It’s important to let elders see and hear your love. From my experience officiating weddings, the best way to express love to elders is through ‘heartfelt gifts’.
And respect each other. You met through fate and became one through love. Respecting each other means respecting yourself and believing in your love. Though you may sometimes disagree, if you respect each other with a heart of reverence even in such situations, any difficulty will melt away before your love. Your love will grow deeper, and your trust in each other will become stronger.
To the family, relatives, and guests who honor this occasion! Thank you for joining us to bless the couple despite your busy schedules. Amidst your blessings, this couple takes their first steps into a new life together. We ask that you continue to love them unconditionally and watch over their lives with warm hearts.
Thank you.

Words of Blessing for a Happy Marriage

Patience and consideration are necessary to understand each other and live well together. We sincerely thank all the relatives and friends from both families who have attended today. On behalf of both sets of parents, I express my deepest gratitude for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend and bless this special wedding.
I am a comrade, friend, and senior to Mr. ○○○, the father of the groom, Mr. ○○○. In truth, despite there being many seniors more distinguished than myself, I hesitated greatly when first asked by the groom’s parents to officiate, as I am not well-known. However, my heartfelt congratulations for the marriage of the groom, ○○○, and the bride, ○○○, are greater than anyone else’s. Therefore, as a senior in life, I decided to take on the role of officiant to bless their marriage.
In Eastern tradition, there is a unit of time called a ‘kalpa’. This kalpa signifies the time it takes for the wheel of reincarnation to complete one full rotation. Some say this kalpa is the time it takes for heaven and earth to be reborn, while others say it is the time it takes for a single drop of water, falling once every thousand years, to erode a boulder as large as a house. It is said that the groom and bride marrying today have met precisely because this precious connection occurs only once every 8,000 kalpas, or 8,000 cycles. This story may seem a bit exaggerated, but it speaks to just how precious it is for two people to become husband and wife.
The start of this new family is not merely a human affair; it is a majestic beginning blessed by heaven and earth, wind and sunshine, all living beings, and the entire universe.
Of course, building a life together as a family after growing up in different environments isn’t all joy. Patience and consideration are essential to understanding each other and living well together. Especially when conflicts arise in married life, it’s crucial to view problems from the other’s perspective and strive to resolve them through sincere conversation, avoiding wounds to each other’s pride. Through this process of resolving issues, the couple will discover greater happiness through love and trust.
When two people sincerely join forces, they can overcome any challenge. Humans are inherently self-reliant and creative beings. Therefore, when a problem arises, as long as there is the will to recognize it as such and seek a solution, the key to resolution will inevitably be found. Problems that seem unsolvable often aren’t truly perceived as problems at all. A married couple must move forward together, facing the same direction. A family truly thrives not merely through formal or conceptual unity, but when mutual understanding and shared aspirations unite the couple.
To achieve this, they must become partners who take interest in each other’s affairs, no matter how small, and who consult each other in daily life. Cherishing the values neither can compromise on, may they build a beautiful home filled with love and joy. Happiness comes from doing things you both want to do together. Ultimately, happiness depends on the resolve of both individuals.
May this couple’s affection and shared purpose accumulate steadily as they live their lives, creating a home filled with unending laughter. Finally, I wish health and happiness to overflow in the homes of all our guests, and may all your wishes come true. This concludes the wedding ceremony. Thank you.

May you become a bride and groom who cherish and respect each other

In April, when the energy of all creation shines brightly, on this beautiful spring day, we gather together at this meaningful occasion where the love of two people bears fruit and becomes one. Just as spring, when new life is born and reborn, holds a special and precious meaning for us, the great human bond of marriage is a celebration of greater significance and value than any other joy.
Yet, in this moment of joy, we must remember that responsibility and duty accompany this happiness just as much as the joy itself. There is a saying among our proverbs: “Iron heated quickly cools quickly.” This teaches us that if we become too absorbed only in the moment of joy, disappointment can easily follow. In married life, just as joy and happiness are important, we must not forget the responsibility that follows to sustain them and deepen them further.
First, looking at the groom, Mr. ○○○, he is the scion of an excellent family who has demonstrated outstanding qualities from an early age and is establishing himself as an important pillar of our society. Such a groom will face even greater responsibilities and duties. Nevertheless, I believe he will deeply engrave this advice in his heart and let it serve as a good guide on his future path.
Likewise, the bride, ○○○, is equally remarkable. As the saying goes, to become a great person, one needs an exceptional partner. As a woman of distinguished lineage, the bride is equally well-equipped to build a future alongside the groom. In this sense, the couple inspires great expectations and hope in each other.
The most important message I wish to convey as the officiant today is this: from this moment when your lives become one, never lose your composure. What exactly is this composure? The first is a gentle disposition. A person with a gentle heart remains unshaken by emotions in any difficult or unpleasant situation, maintaining a softness of spirit. They wrap dissatisfaction or displeasure in broad-mindedness and understanding, ensuring marital harmony remains unbroken in any circumstance.
Second is mental equanimity. In married life, it is crucial to maintain mental balance—not becoming overly elated by joyful events or easily depressed by sorrowful ones. Equanimity means responding wisely to the various situations encountered in daily life without overreacting. This mindset ultimately becomes the foundation for building a happy home.
Finally, the core of equanimity is deep affection. In married life, affection cannot be overemphasized. While feelings may change over time, the heart that cherishes and loves each other—that affection—must always deepen unwaveringly. This affection springs forth like a wellspring, becoming the power that understands and embraces each other.
If you keep these three aspects of a peaceful mind close to your heart and work together hand in hand as a couple, your home will become a place of happiness and beauty, lacking nothing. Therefore, I hope you will not forget this joy today, maintain a grateful heart even in the small things of each day, and never lose the spirit of cherishing and respecting one another.
Finally, I would like to add one more thing: I hope you will hold onto today’s joyful and happy feelings for a long time. As time passes, do not let it fade into the routine of daily life. Live each day conveying fresh and deep gratitude and satisfaction to one another. I sincerely wish that love and happiness always overflow in your home.
Thank you.

A beautiful attitude of mutual consideration

On this joyful and beautiful day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished guests who have joined us here. I believe you all feel the same excitement and happiness in your hearts as I do.
Seeing this beautiful couple, the groom and bride, brings back memories of the day I first met my wife and held our wedding ceremony. In that moment, as we pledged our lifelong commitment amidst the blessings of countless people, I couldn’t hide my joy at the thought of having a steadfast partner by my side, even amidst the trembling and nervousness. That joy has only deepened over time.
Today, I would like to offer some words of wisdom to the couple. From this day forward, they will spend their entire lives together. In the early days of marriage, simply being together will feel like a blessing, and each day will be beautiful. Nevertheless, how wonderful it would be if two people raised in different environments could live their entire lives without conflict?
Unfortunately, no matter how deeply in love a couple is, it’s difficult to completely eliminate differences of opinion. This is because people grow up in different environments and hold diverse thoughts and values. However, what matters is respecting each other’s opinions and making the effort to overcome those differences. Frequent conversation and truly listening to each other—that is the crucial path to maintaining a relationship.
So, what approach should one take when opinions clash? The word that always comes to mind from my experience is ‘consideration’. Consideration for each other is a truly vital element in married life. Consideration isn’t just about words; it must be put into action.
Many couples fail to bridge or overcome differences because they lack consideration for one another. But if you genuinely have a considerate heart, you’re already prepared to listen to the other person’s perspective. Moreover, if you can show consideration and make concessions for your partner, it is never a loss. Instead, it deepens the relationship and enriches the heart. Repeating this attitude naturally fosters a harmonious home and builds a happy life.
I believe this young couple can build a truly harmonious and beautiful home. Their eyes are filled with deep trust for each other, and based on that trust, their shared future will shine even brighter.
As you journey through life together, never forget to care for one another. I sincerely wish you both a bright and beautiful future, always dreaming together. Once again, I offer my heartfelt congratulations to this lovely couple. Let us all applaud them with our congratulations.
May this marriage be filled with blessings and love for both of you. And to everyone gathered here today, please share in this heartfelt blessing.

A marriage built on mutual respect and filling each other’s gaps

Today is a special day as groom ○○○ and bride ○○○ establish their shared home. I sincerely congratulate them on their union and extend my gratitude to the parents and relatives of both families who have joined us here. I also sincerely thank all the guests who took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate this meaningful moment with us.
Truthfully, over the past month since being asked to officiate, I’ve pondered deeply about what words to share regarding the love the bride and groom will cultivate together. Words of congratulations for their marriage surely fill all your hearts already, so simply offering congratulations might suffice. However, I would like to take this opportunity today to share a few earnest words of advice.
First, I hope the bride and groom will always be filial to their parents. However, this filial piety must not become merely a formality. To ensure the wife is loved and accepted by her in-laws, the groom must respect his wife, and the wife must care for each other in a way that conveys this respect to the groom’s parents. After marriage, you will become an important bridge connecting the values of both families.
Second, I hope the couple will always practice true love by giving their utmost devotion to each other. Sociologist Benjamin Barber stated, “I do not divide the world into the strong and the weak, the successful and the unsuccessful. I divide it into those who learn and those who do not.” Marriage is the process of a man from Mars and a woman from Venus meeting on Earth, learning from each other, and living together. Remember that marriage is not simply an event ending with a wedding ceremony; it is the beginning of a journey of growing, learning, and living together. Understanding and respecting their differences, the couple will learn from each other and grow into better people.
Thirdly, to sustain a healthy and happy married life together, you must make consistent effort. Do not tear each other down; live with hearts that cherish and respect one another. Just look at the smartphones we use today—they possess far more advanced functions than just making calls. Similarly, human beings are precious beings created by God. Never forget that this marriage—where a man and woman meet, understand each other, and live in love—is far more valuable and important than any object or machine. So the message I want to convey to the bride and groom today is this: cherish and love each other.
Finally, I’d like to share a humorous insight about marriage. “Marriage begins when judgment is lacking, ends in divorce when patience is lacking, and ultimately leads to remarriage when memory is lacking.” This humor perfectly illustrates that marriage is a journey where two unique individuals learn from and respect each other. It also teaches that only by filling each other’s shortcomings and living with patience and understanding can a marriage be sustained happily for a long time.
Finally, I sincerely wish happiness and prosperity to fill the homes of the bride and groom, their families, and all the guests present here today. May the hearts of all who bless this couple today remain steadfast, filling their married life with love and happiness. I hope my words today will be of help to them, and with that, I conclude my wedding speech.
Thank you.

May you become a couple who embrace and complement each other’s shortcomings

Despite your busy schedules, I sincerely thank all the guests who have come today to celebrate the wedding of groom ○○○ and bride ○○○. As the homeroom teacher who guided ○○○ during his school years, I am filled with immense joy and profound emotion to see him, now such a fine young man, marrying this kind and beautiful bride.
A wedding is the most blessed day in life, a major event in human relationships. Throughout history, in both East and West, it has been regarded as the greatest celebration. In the West, brides wore white, symbolizing wealth and purity, to wish for a prosperous life. In Korea, since the Goguryeo era, brides wore the same ceremonial attire as the king and queen, the samo gwandae, to elevate the ceremony’s dignity.
The wedding itself is the most blessed day, so on this day alone, wearing such ceremonial attire like the samo gwandae was permitted, signifying that the couple should receive great blessings, like a king and queen. Just as no flower is as beautiful as its fruit, what ultimately completes love is the marriage that unites two people as one.
I would like to take this opportunity to make a few requests. We humans are incomplete beings, and life itself is said to be incomplete. Judged by the standard of success, this time of incompleteness never truly ends. Yet, I believe it is precisely this time of incompleteness that serves as the driving force propelling us toward a hopeful future. May you continue a love where you join forces to face challenges, embrace each other with affection, and await success together.
Love is never merely combining each other’s strengths. Rather, love deepens by complementing each other’s shortcomings and imperfections. May you understand and embrace each other’s imperfections, opening a horizon filled with that love. There will be times when differing opinions cause worry. But remember, love is not just about gathering only the beautiful feelings; it is also about letting the unpleasant feelings enter the jar of family life together, fermenting and maturing to bring out its true flavor.
From now on, I hope that the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, will always remember the blessings and support of all the guests gathered here today. May they move forward vigorously toward a hopeful tomorrow, never pausing for a moment.
Above all, may good fortune and blessings always accompany the groom, Mr. ○○○, and the bride, Ms. ○○○, on the path they walk together from this day forward. With this, I conclude the wedding officiant’s speech. Thank you.
