How should practical experience and academic exploration be balanced in a business administration academic plan?

This blog post examines how practical experience and academic exploration can be balanced to enhance the persuasiveness of a business administration academic plan. It covers strategies for harmonizing practical capabilities with academic depth.

Reasons for Pursuing Further Education (Reasons for Choosing the Major)

After graduating from a commercial high school, I joined ○○ Financial Company and worked in support roles for about a year. I applied to your university because I wanted to develop practical marketing skills. I left behind the stability of corporate life to return to school because I aspire to become a more visionary professional manager.
After completing my master’s and doctoral programs at your university and becoming an expert in management, I aim to work as a specialized professor who can teach directly from practical field experience. Working as a new employee at a financial company made me realize that without a solid foundation in business fundamentals, I deeply regret not having studied more deeply. Back in high school, I only had a vague curiosity about business and never engaged in serious, in-depth study. This often made even minor tasks difficult to handle. Therefore, before it’s too late, I wish to receive guidance from a highly respected professor to help me set my life’s direction, which is why I am applying to your university.

Primary Research Interests and Research Plan

Upon entering university, I intend to focus diligently on my major studies. I feel my foundation is significantly lacking for becoming a professional manager, so I will invest heavily in building fundamental skills for systematic business studies. Through in-depth academic research, I will cultivate an integrated and analytical perspective on business.
Furthermore, during my first and second years, alongside my major studies, I plan to diligently study English, the foundation of all academic disciplines. I will also actively participate in current affairs and reading study groups, sharing ideas and engaging in discussions with diverse people to broaden the depth of my thinking.
Starting in my third year, I intend to pursue more systematic and advanced major studies to prepare for graduate business school. I will also study diligently to obtain the professional certifications necessary for a career in management. I believe that acquiring a solid foundation in fundamental theory equips one with the ability to adapt without being swayed by rapidly changing circumstances. I will strive to build this strong foundation. Former GE Chairman Jack Welch stated that the most significant characteristic of successful people is passion. I am determined to complete my university life without regret, armed with this passion.

Post-Graduation Plans

After graduating from university, I plan to enter a business graduate school. My brief practical experience has made me realize that without more systematic theoretical grounding, there are significant limitations to performing work efficiently and rationally. Therefore, I intend to pursue a master’s and doctoral degree through graduate school.
After graduating, I aspire to work in the financial sector and grow into a professional manager. CEOs like Lou Gerstner of IBM, Michael Eisner of Walt Disney, and Meg Whitman of eBay all built world-class companies through exceptional management skills. Their examples show that, without question, the CEO is the most crucial factor in a company’s growth and development. I will dedicate myself to my studies with the dream of becoming the capable CEO needed for Korean companies to grow into global enterprises. Therefore, I aspire to become a long-term leader with a vision for the future, the drive to draw out the energy and passion of team members to create organizational synergy, and a clear purpose for why and how to conduct business, rather than being preoccupied with immediate profits.

Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)

I was deeply impacted by the book ‘Who Moved My Cheese?’ This book teaches that unless you take action yourself, you will inevitably be left behind by the times, and that you must always prepare for change and set out to find new cheese. In this rapidly changing environment and era of globalization, I believe that above all else, one must possess adaptability to new things and a mindset open to embracing change. Therefore, I am striving to develop more specialized undergraduate studies, language skills, and diverse computer application abilities. I always maintain the composure to smile no matter how difficult things get, and I am ready to run toward new cheese.
