What is important for effectively conveying your educational philosophy in a statement of purpose?

In this blog post, we’ll explore the key elements for naturally weaving your educational philosophy into your statement of purpose and outline how to persuasively express your beliefs and major goals.

Reasons for Pursuing the Major

One of my favorite Korean language teachers made every class engaging by incorporating media. Using diverse multimedia resources kept students focused and helped them remember the material better. Watching this teacher inspired me to create engaging educational programs that reveal the joy of learning to children. Reflecting on what I needed to do to achieve this dream led me to conclude that Educational Technology was the right major.
As society continues to advance, the development of educational technology is accelerating, driven by the progress of information technology resulting from the integration of computers and information and communications. The growing prominence of educational technology in the 21st-century information age, which embraces e-learning as a new educational paradigm, was another reason I chose this major. Alongside selecting my major, I also nurtured the dream of becoming someone who can provide quality education to more people by understanding true educational philosophy and applying the resulting pedagogical methodologies.

Academic Plan and Goals

Upon entering university, I will make the most of my time as a student to learn various subjects and gain extensive experience. In my first year, I plan to study foreign languages like English and Japanese, and gain a deeper understanding of computers to obtain the Information Processing Technician certification. By my second year, I will set aside other studies and focus intensely on my major courses, striving to become an outstanding scholar. I will actively participate in major courses and projects related to educational engineering and other fields to transform myself into a capable professional with diverse and broad expertise and skills.
I aspire to become an instructional designer who develops high-quality learning resources, leveraging my educational engineering major. I will build the foundation at your institution to develop various learning media and propose the most suitable learning methods to maximize learning effectiveness.

Post-Graduation Plans

Specifically, I aspire to become an educator in the field of visual media. To achieve this, I plan to pursue not only a master’s degree but also a doctoral degree. Among child education-related industries, the digital video sector holds significant economic and cultural influence. Utilizing the characteristics of digital video media, such as animation, as learning methods for young children, children, and adolescents who are familiar with computer environments can lead to more efficient and effective education.
Therefore, I wish to engage in work that involves contemplating and researching how digital video media can be pedagogically designed for learners. As an expert in educational technology, I aspire to introduce systematic evaluation methods, research, critique, and assess existing cyber education, and serve as a consultant to promote better cyber education.
I aspire to be someone who fulfills the roles of both an educational counselor and an educational content designer, not merely a teacher. I will maintain a constant interest in educational technology and progress steadily toward that future day when I can provide students with higher-quality content.

Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)

In middle school, despite studying hard in my own way, my grades weren’t good, and I was always among the bottom students. However, upon entering high school, I replaced the word “give up” with positive thinking, perseverance, and strong determination, which allowed me to rise to the top of the school. After experiencing that if I deeply and repeatedly thought about what I desired, that wish would inevitably become reality, I always lived with the positive mindset that I could do it.
When looking at a glass half-full of water, one person might say, “Only half is left,” while another might say, “Half is still left.” I always strive to live with the positive mindset of “Half is still left” rather than the negative thought of “Only half is left.” This positive mindset is one of my greatest strengths.
Knowing well that only those who challenge themselves can enjoy the privilege of experiencing a greater world, I will continue to be a “challenging talent” who pioneers new worlds with positive thinking, perseverance, strong grit, and a sincere attitude—replacing the word “give up” with “I can do it.”
