This blog post discusses how to connect your major and experience into a compelling motivation when applying to the Electronic Information and Communications Industry Association.
My Upbringing
During my childhood, my parents always made an effort to establish proper family rules and standards through discussions involving the entire family. They taught me to discern right from wrong on my own, ensuring I wouldn’t be swayed by their whims or unilateral judgments and develop a distorted view of the world. Even when I made mistakes and faced consequences, they taught me to clearly understand the reasons, the process, and the cause-and-effect relationship of the punishment. Thanks to this, I could comprehend the meaning behind any discipline or correction, rather than reacting with vague resentment. My parents always respected me and my sibling. If they ever scolded us in the heat of the moment, unable to control their impulse or emotion, they would soon acknowledge their shortcomings as elders and apologize. Observing my parents’ example up close, I naturally learned the rules and principles of society that people must follow to live together.
My parents also strove to cultivate a balanced perspective in me—ensuring I wouldn’t become someone who excessively prioritizes their own feelings or desires to the detriment of others, nor someone who loses their individuality by being overly constrained by social restrictions and frameworks. Thanks to this, I was able to maintain harmonious relationships with friends by demonstrating exemplary social skills. I learned firsthand that even when personal feelings arise, it’s crucial not to express them to the point of negatively affecting others, and to maintain a proper and dignified demeanor within the bounds of established rules.
Furthermore, driven by a desire to be a role model for my younger sibling, I always strove to lead by example, follow rules, and demonstrate proper conduct. Throughout this process, I disciplined myself strictly to stay focused and avoid appearing lazy or disheveled. This background and my parents’ teachings formed the foundation of my character and approach to life, and they remain crucial benchmarks for how I relate to others and view the world today.
School Days
During my school years, I lived by my parents’ constant reminder: “Your conduct directly shapes your younger sibling’s habits.” This principle applied not only to my sibling. I disciplined myself daily, striving to be a good example for friends and juniors as well. There was a time at home when I could indulge my whims and act as I pleased, but in society, where one must live alongside many others, certain obligations and constraints inevitably followed. While this environment sometimes felt stifling, I believed that learning proper conduct within those constraints was absolutely necessary to live life correctly on the stage of society. Just as a pet dog must endure a leash or harness to be properly trained, I believed humans also need a process of learning and internalizing the rules accumulated over long ages to properly integrate into civilized society.
This conviction became clearer each time I entered a new group or relationship. Depending on the situation, the position and duties I had to take on were all different, and accordingly, flexibility was required to behave in different ways. I was the eldest daughter and a student at home, but that wasn’t the entirety of my life. When I started a part-time job, I quickly became a new intern; in volunteer organizations, I became a helper who supported and cared for others; and when I took on teaching assistant duties, I handled the dual role of looking after juniors while simultaneously supporting the professor’s work. The demeanor, tone, and attitude required differed in each situation. Therefore, I felt I needed to cultivate the flexibility to freely change my own image as needed, adjusting my speech and actions accordingly. I learned that just as our status and roles can change moment by moment, the appropriate attitude must also seek change like a chameleon to foster harmonious relationships and growth.
Personality Introduction
When entering a new group, I first familiarize myself with its rules and culture, striving to naturally incorporate them into my daily life. Since many people I’ll be with have gone through this process, I believe acting recklessly and deviating from it would be tantamount to insulting the group’s long-standing history and traditions.
Furthermore, I believe it’s essential to adopt a proactive, self-directed attitude—actively seeking guidance and refining oneself—rather than passively accepting instruction as a perpetual student. The world opens more doors of opportunity to those with ambition and self-driven will; missing that timing could mean losing crucial opportunities for proper social learning.
Furthermore, rather than recklessly attempting adventures or throwing out novel ideas to assert one’s presence, I strive first to understand the group’s rules and avoid causing excessive alienation. I believe it is preferable to present new opinions only after sufficiently integrating with members and building a sense of stability. An attitude that prioritizes ‘novelty’ or work performance without first making efforts toward closeness and integration can actually foster a sense of alienation.
Values
I believe humans only truly evolve from animals to people through proper socialization. We are not born knowing how to communicate or interact with others. Without proper education and guidance, even our language centers may fail to develop, potentially leaving us as beings adrift in nature, governed by wild instincts. Therefore, learning and mastering the necessary procedures for integrating into society is paramount.
Humans are not born perfect, yet within that imperfection lies boundless potential. Thus, navigating the transitional phases and growth processes to adapt oneself to society’s framework becomes a vital task. The journey from a state of ignorance to learning societal rules, advancing step by step within that framework, is no trivial matter. To this end, those who provide proper guidance and appropriate methods of control, helping individuals grow into healthy members of society, must also bear a profound sense of responsibility. This is because humans, starting from an immature state, cannot possibly grow to full maturity solely through their own efforts.
Ultimately, an individual’s growth is not achieved by personal effort alone. Only when society, guidance, and the care and support of those around us come together can we truly become complete ‘human beings’. I believe this process transcends mere education or discipline, forming the foundation for mutual understanding, respect, and coexistence.
Motivation for Applying and Aspirations After Joining
From childhood, my parents taught me the responsibilities and duties of an elder caring for my younger sibling, along with the necessity of rules to uphold them. My parents didn’t just tell me to follow rules; they always calmly and concretely explained the reasonable reasons and processes behind them, how they function within the family, and what kind of well-rounded person I should grow into for society. Through this teaching, I developed an attitude that finds stability within rules and frameworks, enabling me to correctly understand and practice societal norms.
I believe this experience aligns with your company’s vision of establishing a business framework, setting proper standards and structures, and ensuring all members achieve harmony within appropriate parameters. This is why I am applying to your company.
Should I have the opportunity to work with your company, I will strive to become a talent who does not recklessly break the given framework but instead exerts appropriate influence and capability within it. I believe upholding tradition and discipline means accepting even its constraints as the proper baseline defining a group’s identity. Therefore, I will not take its meaning lightly. I will fully understand and respect it, developing my conduct and capabilities accordingly. Furthermore, I will grow into a talent who respects past history and tradition while adding new value upon it to achieve progress.
