This blog post clearly explains the key elements to center your academic plan around—from core mechanical engineering fundamentals to major competencies and future career goals—along with specific writing strategies.
Reasons for Choosing the Major
I have been a car enthusiast since childhood, so passionate that I would wake up even from sleep at the mere mention of automobiles. In elementary school, I once got into trouble for opening my father’s car engine to look inside. By middle school, I joined a radio-controlled car club and became so engrossed in building and operating cars that my parents grew concerned.
The automotive industry is a crucial field within mechanical engineering and a leading industry driving national industrial development. This sparked my desire to systematically study the fundamental theories of mechanical engineering and specialized knowledge in automotive-related academic fields upon entering university. I dream of becoming a highly skilled professional who can cultivate design and application capabilities for rapidly advancing automobiles and automotive systems, lead technological development, and play a substantial, pivotal role in achieving technological self-reliance within the automotive industry.
Academic Plan and Goals
Upon entering the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, I will focus on building a foundation in mechanical engineering mechanics and specialized knowledge in automotive-related disciplines. Starting with fundamental mechanics courses like Materials Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics, as well as subjects in electrical, electronic, and computer engineering, I will concentrate my studies on various major courses such as Vehicle Dynamics, Body Systems, Production Automation, and Vehicle Control.
I understand automotive engineering to be a convergent discipline integrating mechanics, design, and engineering. Therefore, beyond my major studies, I will cultivate interest and engage with diverse fields. This will enable me to develop design and application capabilities for automobiles and automotive production systems, growing into a highly skilled professional contributing to technological development and achieving technological self-reliance in the automotive industry.
Post-Graduation Plans
As I began contemplating my career path, I developed a strong interest in eco-friendly vehicles. Given environmental challenges like fossil fuel depletion and global warming, it is clear that securing the technological capabilities for eco-friendly vehicles will be crucial for the survival and growth of the automotive industry. In the future global automotive market, companies possessing core technologies for eco-friendly vehicles will become leading automotive firms, and nations with such capabilities will dominate the global automotive market.
After graduation, I aspire to become an automotive engineer and contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the future eco-friendly automotive industry. I wish to begin my dream in the Department of Automotive Engineering, where I feel the most interest and can pour my passion.
Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)
I continue volunteering at a welfare center for people with disabilities. Though my friends there face harsher circumstances than I do, they always maintain a bright outlook and live joyfully in all things. The Analects state, ‘When three people walk together, one of them is bound to be my teacher.’ Observing them, I live humbly, believing there is something to learn from everyone. I strive to lead a life of growth by filling my own gaps through others.
I always try to maintain a positive mindset, never losing my smile or composure, and I aim to treat people without being overly rigid. Because of this, friends remember me as a warm person who is easy to get close to without feeling burdened. I tend to easily befriend people and adapt anywhere.
I cherish the saying, ‘Keep your spirit as vast as a mountain, but lower your body like grass.’ I hold pride that is both deep and broad, yet I strive never to lose the virtue of humility. As a teenager still with many shortcomings, I constantly ponder what is right and endeavor to act according to that standard.
