Growth Process
“Education Through Conversation”
Thanks to my playful and outgoing personality, I was always the first to run out and play during kindergarten and was remembered as an active child among my friends. However, this personality often led to messes or pranks that went too far, resulting in frequent calls to my parents from kindergarten. Each time, my mother and father would take turns visiting the kindergarten. Even when scolding me, they never raised their voices or reacted emotionally. Instead, they always resolved the issue rationally through conversation.
From childhood, conversations with my parents were a crucial pillar of my growth. No matter what mistake I made, rather than getting angry first, they would ask me questions like, “How was what you did wrong?” or “Why might your friend be upset and crying?” By giving me time to think for myself, they helped me develop the habit of reflecting on my actions and finding the root cause of my mistakes on my own. They patiently waited until I acknowledged my mistakes, and through this process, an attitude of confronting and correcting errors rather than avoiding them took root within me.
This approach to education profoundly influenced my entire growth process. It instilled in me the habit of first considering, “What is necessary and what is unnecessary to do this well?” when undertaking any task. When interacting with others, I also made an effort to consider the other person’s perspective before my own thoughts and feelings. Thanks to this, I often heard from those around me that I had “grown up healthy and sound,” which became a positive source of pride for me. Looking back, my parents’ consistent, conversation-centered approach to education was the greatest driving force in shaping me into a person capable of self-reflection.
School Days
“Exchange and Growth Through Club Activities”
During high school, I actively participated in various club activities, driven by a desire to broaden my horizons through diverse experiences. The most memorable was the ‘Cultural Heritage Research Club,’ jointly operated by eight high schools. This club engaged in various activities to preserve Korea’s cultural heritage, enabling extensive interaction with friends from other schools. I broadened my social circle by interacting with friends from different backgrounds and with unique personalities. Naturally, my interest in history grew through our cultural heritage preservation activities. Furthermore, it opened my eyes to social and environmental issues, helping me develop a broader perspective.
Another activity that greatly enriched my school years was the ‘Animation Club’. Having been familiar with visual media since childhood and particularly loving animation—my childhood dream was to become an animation director—this club held special meaning for me. Over three years of high school, I built countless memories working on joint projects with club members and gained many enjoyable experiences by challenging myself in various contests open to high school students. Although I didn’t win the first contest I entered, what I learned during that process became a valuable asset.
When choosing my university major, I selected Animation based on my interests and aptitude. Many friends I met in my major classes were highly skilled artists with original ideas, and conversations with them led me to deeply consider my own career path. Through repeated classes and projects, I realized I found greater joy in communicating with people and sharing ideas than in sitting still for long periods doing detailed work.
Particularly during group assignments, I excelled at setting the direction for our work. I actively took the lead in understanding each friend’s personality and drawing style, assigning roles suited to their strengths, and coordinating the final output. I constantly proposed ideas during the planning phase, developing them into concrete plans to guide the team. Through this process, I naturally often became the team leader, and we achieved great results based on strong teamwork. During my university years, I also prepared for contests whenever possible and finally achieved the success of winning awards. The experience of leaving something to be desired in my first challenge during high school led to achievements during my university years.
Thus, through diverse club activities and project experiences during my school years, I grew by interacting with others and learned the joy of creating results through collaboration. This process has become a crucial foundation for my entire life, extending far beyond mere academics or skill acquisition.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
“The Active, People-Loving Me”
I enjoy socializing and am quite sociable. While many of my artist friends were quiet and introverted, I was a bit of an oddball even within my department. Though my drawing skills were somewhat recognized, my personality was often described as far from the ‘artist type’. I quickly became close with even the quieter friends, earning the nickname “social butterfly” among my department peers.
I am active and quick to act. When given a piece or assignment, I’m not the type to keep revising until the last minute. Instead, I set a clear goal, focus intensely to complete the work, and move on to the next step without hesitation. Of course, when working, I also demonstrate a high level of concentration. Finishing work with this level of immersion brings high satisfaction with the outcome and allows me to pour my full energy into the next task.
I also have the ability to be considerate of others and quickly grasp their characteristics. Through club activities during my school years, meeting many people, and experiencing diverse relationships, being considerate of others became a natural habit. I enjoy meeting new people and frequently attend gatherings where I can mingle with a variety of friends. Listening to people with different backgrounds and experiences allows me to indirectly experience things I haven’t personally done and encounter entirely different perspectives on the same topics. This process is always an interesting and enjoyable stimulus for me. Especially during conversations, I tend to quickly notice the other person’s personality or characteristics, often surprising them with comments like, “How did you know that so well?” I believe this trait plays a positive role in my interpersonal relationships.
My Strengths
“Endless Ideas and Presentation Skills”
Being called creative and ingenious is one of the greatest compliments for an artist. And turning those creative, original ideas into polished works is the path to becoming a top-tier artist. I’ve always had so many outlandish ideas that friends sometimes tell me, “You’re really out of this world.” Sometimes these thoughts seemed a bit ridiculous or unrealistic to implement as art, but I still enjoyed sharing them and loved the process of discussing them with people. These ideas also presented new directions for my work.
I don’t fear standing in front of people. Instead, I enjoy the moment of conveying my story while meeting people’s gaze, using a little nervousness as energy. Making eye contact with the audience to convey my thoughts, observing their reactions, and eliciting engagement and empathy brings me great satisfaction. Even during project presentations in my university major courses, I primarily took charge of the presentations. I could coherently explain the work’s intent, expression techniques, and process, and respond logically and persuasively to questions or critiques from professors and classmates.
Thus, I possess both boundless ideas and the ability to captivate audiences through presentations. This is not merely talent, but a strength honed through diverse experiences and repeated practice. I believe these capabilities are essential qualities for planning new product concepts and effectively communicating their value within ○○ Company’s Product Planning Department. Moving forward, I aspire to grow as a talent who injects new vitality into the team and company, leveraging creativity and expressive skills.
