A mindset focused on giving my best without being bound by reality
I am someone who strives to always give my best effort, unbound by my current position or practical circumstances. We often harbor desires to achieve ‘such goals,’ yet find ourselves trapped by ‘this reality,’ failing to make proper efforts and instead settling for the status quo. For example, someone might say they want to actively pursue a woman they like, but they don’t yet have a great physique, an attractive job, or a house and car, so they have to endure the situation. Yet, when they actually try to work towards those conditions, endless excuses follow: not enough time to focus on exercise, insufficient education making employment difficult, or poor family circumstances preventing them from even starting. If you peel away these excuses one by one, what ultimately remains is nothing but self-justification: ‘I’m simply in no position to make the proactive effort needed to find a partner and change my life.’
When people try to make excuses about their circumstances, they can invent reasons endlessly. That’s why, rather than first asking “What is impossible right now?”, I try to prioritize thinking about “What can I make possible?” And I believe it’s more important to consider how that connects to the goals I want to achieve. Even if there’s no miraculous exercise that transforms me overnight, I know that small changes—like slightly increasing my running or walking time, or gradually adjusting my diet—can become the seeds that eventually sprout into significant change. Ultimately, I believe change doesn’t stem from grand beginnings, but from small, consistent attempts. Rather than blaming reality, the attitude of building things one step at a time from what is possible is the driving force that propels me forward.
A person who always dreams of new change
I am someone who lives dreaming of new change. While giving my best to my current responsibilities, I also plan what I want to be like in one year, five years, ten years, and enjoy taking on new challenges toward those goals. Because I don’t fear challenges, I also have a strong sense of adventure. My exceptional adaptability to change has allowed me to build friendships with diverse people, and above all, I live without forgetting the value of ‘life shared together’. In particular, cherishing promises made to others and striving to keep them is a crucial principle in my life.
This adventurous nature led me to learn paragliding. A longing for the freedom of flying in the sky drew me there. Actually, I didn’t start with paragliding right away. Originally enjoying bungee jumping because I have little fear, I happened to visit ○○ and saw paragliders soaring through the sky, feeling a strong attraction. The thrill I experienced that day captured my heart, ultimately leading me to complete a program at a professional training institution. Paragliding, which I’ve pursued for the past five years, continues to bring great vitality to my life. The freedom and exhilaration felt in the sky are so special that words alone cannot fully capture them. Thus, I am someone who enjoys adventure, willingly embraces challenges, and steadily moves toward goals with a strong drive for achievement.
Of course, my impatience is also a weakness. While I understand the importance of planning, my strong drive to achieve has sometimes led me to rush and push forward recklessly. However, hasty decisions often compromised the completeness and execution of my plans. To improve this, I have recently made an effort to meticulously analyze feasibility when planning and to anticipate variables that may arise during the process. Thanks to this change in attitude, the success rate of my plans has steadily increased. I will continue striving to grow into someone who can professionally complete any task entrusted to me.
Proactive Pursuit and Acceptance of New Things
A key strength of my personality is my constant pursuit of new things and my proactive acceptance of them when they appear before me. I have consistently strived to create new educational approaches befitting a young person, rather than clinging to traditional methods. In particular, I prioritized analyzing successful cases from Germany and Japan and adapting them to the Korean context. To achieve this, I personally studied German and Japanese, secured funding, and visited companies and institutions in those countries. I wrote my thesis based on the experiences I gained firsthand, which enabled me to complete both my master’s and doctoral degrees.
I always keep my antennae up for fields that interest me, constantly exploring whether there is anything more innovative or ingenious. And I never cease my efforts to quickly embrace and apply these ideas to make them a reality. Thanks to this proactiveness, my pace of learning and achievement tends to be faster than others.
Of course, there are drawbacks. My tendency to strive for perfection in everything sometimes leads me to neglect my health. While I value communication and never miss out on conversations or activities with friends, I also push myself to excel academically, which can be physically draining. To improve this, I am working to maintain regular exercise and healthy eating habits. Moving forward, I plan to manage my health and performance to achieve balance, while expanding the knowledge and experience I have accumulated thus far.
Opening Paths Through Proactivity
My greatest strength is my proactive nature. I am not someone who waits for others to prepare things for me. Growing up in an environment where I had to do everything myself from a young age instilled in me the habit of always moving faster and earlier than others. Waking up early and finishing my preparations 40 minutes before others is second nature to me.
When I decided to pursue a career in education, I didn’t want to stop at just majoring in education. I had the goal of also studying business administration to fuse the two fields. At the time, school regulations prohibited education majors from pursuing a double major, and I needed signatures from two professors in that field to even apply. To overcome this barrier, I visited professors’ offices, persistently explaining and persuading them about my future plans and vision. As a result, I achieved the distinction of being the only Education major at the time granted permission for a double major.
In this way, I always proactively steer situations forward. Even when working, I don’t just focus on what’s possible; I seek ways to make even seemingly impossible things possible. I want to bring this proactivity to your company and add value.
Of course, I have weaknesses too. Because I enjoy being active, I tend to be somewhat impatient. My words or actions sometimes get ahead of others, and at a previous job, a colleague who felt uncomfortable about this honestly shared their opinion. That experience taught me to adjust my pace and synchronize with others when working collaboratively. Moving forward, I will continue to grow by leveraging my strengths and working to improve my weaknesses.
My Story of Embracing Challenges
I tend to enjoy new challenges rather than fear them. The greatest strength of my personality is my spirit of challenge. When I first started as a web designer at the company, my supervisor suggested, “Why not learn a more specialized field?” Without hesitation, I accepted the offer and learned programming, starting with C language and progressing to Java. While others might have thought, “The company isn’t even paying for this training—aren’t they just trying to make me do more work for the same pay?”, I firmly believed that when an opportunity to learn arises, you must seize it. Thanks to this mindset, I approached my studies with even greater enthusiasm. As a result, I moved to a different department and began a new career as the company’s Java engineer. Later, I was entrusted with building networks and developing internal systems, gaining recognition for my expertise and naturally receiving a higher salary.
On the other hand, a weakness in my personality is my intense focus. Once immersed, I fixate on one thing and sometimes lose sight of my surroundings. This tendency is especially noticeable in relationships outside work. I end up neglecting contact with friends and acquaintances while concentrating on important tasks. To counter this, I consciously make an effort to spend time with people outside the company and maintain contact.
Learning new things and taking on challenges is not just a choice for me; it’s a way of life. And I believe that by recognizing and striving to improve even the shortcomings that arise in the process, I am moving forward step by step. I intend to continue living as someone who enjoys challenges and never stops learning.
A personality with confidence that anything is possible
Based on the confidence that ‘I can do anything,’ I always approach every task with a proactive and active attitude. However, to ensure this confidence doesn’t lead to reckless challenges, I make it a principle to always give my best and take responsibility for the tasks I undertake.
Early in my studies of English and French, I participated in ‘cultural exchange volunteer activities,’ introducing Chinese culture to foreign students. I distinctly remember deeply questioning whether I could truly handle this task before submitting my application. Yet, I was intensely focused on language study at the time, and my desire to converse directly with foreign friends was strong. Using that passion as my driving force, I studied even more intensively for the month leading up to the event. I sacrificed sleep to understand their culture and repeatedly practiced expressions and pronunciation to ensure smooth communication. As a result, on the day of the event, I was able to confidently introduce our culture to my foreign friends, mingle naturally, and quickly build friendships. I believe this entire process was a valuable outcome born from my effort and sincerity.
I believe that with effort, anything can be achieved. However, sometimes the confidence that ‘I can do it’ can lead to overreach. Excessive ambition can place undue pressure on myself and, furthermore, negatively impact those around me. Therefore, I strive to objectively assess the importance of tasks, set priorities, and execute them diligently, step by step. By doing so, I aim to fulfill my responsibilities excellently, grow personally, and become someone who positively influences those around me.
Two Attitudes Toward Challenges
I hesitate little before new challenges. My nature is to first envision the rewards a challenge can bring, rather than the risks it entails. Guided by the belief that ‘positive thinking leads to positive outcomes,’ I imagine positive possibilities before negative ones, willingly taking on challenges others shy away from. Even if I experience failure, I see it as a process that opens the door to another opportunity. I believe that accumulating experience through challenges builds a protective barrier against future failures, more so than avoiding them altogether. Therefore, my guiding principle is: “It’s far better to experience something somehow than to hesitate and not try at all.” Human time is finite, and the experiences and failures I encounter today might be invaluable lessons I would never have gained had I not taken the leap.
Of course, I also understand the perspective of those with different inclinations. Some believe a single, precise shot is far more valuable than countless attempts and failures. Just as situations like the college entrance exam favor passing on the first try, some people prefer to focus all their energy in one decisive moment for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. While life doesn’t often present colossal, once-in-a-lifetime tests like the CSAT, if a challenge that could determine my very fate were to come my way, I believe I would need an attitude like that of the cautious—deeply examining both the expected benefits and the risks—rather than simply approaching it with the unbridled positivity I have now. That’s why I aim to cultivate both a love for challenges in everyday life and the prudence to make weighty judgments in crucial moments.
The Power of Interest
I am someone who dives deep into fields that interest me with real drive. As a child, I started studying Japanese simply because I wanted to understand the lines of my favorite anime characters myself. Thanks to that, I read manga in the original language before they were released in Korea, and when I went to Japan, I bought loads of related merchandise. At the time, my parents worried, “Why are you still reading comics at your age?” But when they saw me diligently master Japanese through that motivation, earn a certification, and even gain an advantage in university admissions, they became proud of my abilities. That’s when I realized: no matter the reason, as long as you believe it can yield positive results, it’s perfectly fine to immerse yourself in diverse hobbies.
I hold the mindset of “doing what I love while ensuring productive outcomes” as a vital life goal. Many people live forced to endure uninteresting fields without even the freedom to choose. But I was able to steadily develop an interest that began as a hobby and ultimately connect it to my career—something I consider a great blessing. So I refuse to leave this advantage as mere luck. Based on the passion that can be unleashed precisely because I chose what I love, I will continue to steadily build productive results, making my life even more solid.
Active and Proactive Personality
I believe my most significant strength is having an active and proactive personality. My lively disposition has made me a noticeable presence in any group, allowing me to interact widely with diverse people and build a network. Cherishing these connections and maintaining them consistently has been a great strength in my life. I excel at smoothly mediating conflicts, having lived without major disputes with others. I attribute this to my tendency to carefully observe and consider others. My keen observational skills allow me to quickly grasp others’ dispositions and circumstances, enabling me to engage in tailored conversations that foster deeper connections. My ability to win people over has been a great asset, broadening my interests and experiences across diverse fields.
As much as I enjoy people, I dislike actions that violate principles or fundamentals. I tend not to maintain long-term relationships with those whose values clash with mine or who are difficult to trust. Conversely, I deeply believe in the values of consideration and sharing, and have strived to practice them. I have consistently continued my involvement with the ‘○○’ club, which I founded in my first year of high school, and during my university years, I participated in volunteer activities both domestically and internationally. These experiences have further solidified the meaning of a ‘society that lives together’ in my heart.
People often advise me, “Take care of yourself too,” because I cannot simply pass by others’ difficulties. However, I believe it is right to step forward first if something needs to be done. My values dictate that I take the lead with a proactive attitude, even in difficult situations, and this stance will not change. Based on this proactiveness and sense of responsibility, I am confident I can establish myself as a trusted and exemplary member in any organization.
Preparation for Opportunity
I am someone who embraces upcoming opportunities without hesitation and challenges them without reservation. I believe that mental preparation isn’t something you do after an opportunity appears before you; rather, it’s the virtue of being fully prepared at all times, ready to unleash explosive power when the moment arrives. The moment you start wondering, “Can I really do this?” or “Do I have the ability?” before a challenge, it’s already too late. If you’ve diligently prepared and built a solid foundation beforehand, that moment becomes the springboard that propels you forward like a coiled spring. Yet many people only start moving when life’s turning points arrive, doubting their own abilities or hesitating indecisively when decisive action is needed. This happens because they’ve grown complacent in their peaceful routines, neglecting to discipline themselves and keep their mental reins tight. If consistent effort and self-cultivation have been accumulated, there’s no need to test yourself belatedly when opportunity knocks.
Of course, some have advised me there’s no need to be overly impatient. They said opportunities and possibilities always leave signs beforehand, so it’s necessary to relax a little, mingle naturally with those around you, and live with some ease. That advice isn’t wrong either. But I still want to keep my baggage packed and ready, waiting for the wind that will carry me far away, so I can leave at any moment. Preparation reassures me, and that reassurance leads back to the challenge.
