This blog post explores how to effectively convey practical understanding and a sense of responsibility in an accounting resume based on internship experience.
My Upbringing
“Generous-hearted parents who taught me courtesy and consideration”
Growing up under parents who always found joy in giving and sharing with others, I naturally learned and internalized courtesy and consideration toward others. My mother, who valued family health above all, always took meticulous care of us with delicious meals. Though married for well over 30 years, she always served freshly cooked rice for breakfast and showed her respect for my father through actions, not words. During holidays, she would always prepare gifts for the apartment manager and was generous enough to personally serve him food.
Beyond my health, he had no special expectations for me, but he held family harmony as the most important value in life. He often said, “Only when a family is harmonious can it give back to society,” teaching us that sibling affection and parental love were the very roots of that harmony. He emphasized the preciousness of siblings who could rely on each other even in old age, always reminding us never to lose the considerate heart needed to preserve that bond.
Growing up in such a home filled with warm affection and love, I naturally developed a gentle disposition. The life of consideration and sharing my parents exemplified became the foundation of my character and values. I intend to continue living by this spirit, never forgetting it in my relationships with others.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
“A gentle and highly responsible person”
I possess a gentle personality that respects and cares for others. Especially when interacting with people outside, I strive to understand their perspective. I believe protecting and respecting the vulnerable is an essential mature attitude required in communities like school or society. Having grown up surrounded by love and care from my family since childhood, I naturally adopted the behaviors I observed and learned. Thanks to this, I often received compliments from those around me about being “gentle.”
I am also highly responsible and tend to meticulously attend to even minor details when entrusted with a task. I believe it is crucial to proceed step by step, double-check everything to avoid mistakes, and thoroughly follow through to deliver flawless results. Even when faced with difficult situations, I approach everything proactively with the positive belief that ‘if you put in the corresponding effort, you will surely succeed.’ I also possess strong initiative, moving without delay when tasks arise, and always fulfill my responsibilities diligently. Thanks to this attitude, I earn people’s trust, and those who have worked with me often want to collaborate again.
Of course, this personality can sometimes be a disadvantage. Because I care about others and handle tasks meticulously and responsibly, I often can’t just let other people’s work slide. Viewed as a strength, this means I step in to handle things myself or correct mistakes when I see something amiss. However, from the other person’s perspective, my taking the initiative without being asked can feel burdensome. Recognizing this, I now make a conscious effort to confirm the other person’s wishes first before acting, no matter how frustrating the situation may be.
My gentle nature and sense of responsibility have earned trust and left positive impressions on many people. Simultaneously, I’m working to refine areas that could be perceived as unnecessary interference, aiming to build more mature relationships. Moving forward, I aspire to further develop my strengths and address my weaknesses, striving to be someone who positively influences everyone I work with.
School Life
“Preparing for Employment Through Language Study and Internships”
I majored in Tax Accounting at university, developing the skills to record, analyze, interpret, and communicate corporate cash flow as an ERP accounting and tax specialist. I broadened my understanding of the field by gaining expertise in diverse areas such as tax accounting, cost accounting, management accounting, and auditing.
My proudest college experience was independently saving money to study abroad in New Zealand. Driven by a clear goal, I balanced academics with part-time work during semesters. During breaks, I resisted social temptations and diligently saved by juggling two part-time jobs simultaneously. After three semesters of relentless effort, I secured the funds for a six-month language program.
Because I prepared for this program entirely on my own, the time spent there felt more valuable than ever. Outside of class, I explored every corner of the city, seeing things firsthand, conversing with locals, and immersing myself fully in the city’s culture. Spending my time so meaningfully led to noticeable improvements in my English skills. After returning home, I kept up the momentum by consistently taking the TOEIC exam to build my skills, and I currently maintain TOEIC Speaking Level 7.
However, after finishing my enjoyable time in New Zealand and returning to school, I worried I might fall behind in my major classes. With the mindset that “if I’m worried, I just have to work harder,” I headed to the library by 6 a.m. every day to secure a spot. I concentrated intensely in every class and stayed late at the library to repeatedly study any difficult concepts.
As a senior, my days became increasingly busy preparing for employment. Believing internships offered the most valuable real-world experience, I applied to various programs at different companies. After fierce competition, I secured an internship in the sales support team of a mid-sized company. Though brief, this allowed me to directly experience the practical workplace. While assisting employees, I learned about actual documents and work processes, and realized the gap between my vague imagination of office life and reality. Though most time is spent wrestling with a computer at a desk, I also learned the intensity and speed hidden within that routine.
In this way, during my university years, I set goals, made plans, and implemented them step by step, experiencing both language study abroad and internships. Through this process, I cultivated diligence, perseverance, and a spirit of challenge. I will continue to grow steadily in my future professional life, building upon these attitudes.
Reasons for Applying and Aspirations
“Accurate and Thorough”
After returning from my training in New Zealand, I methodically prepared for employment step by step. I consistently worked to improve my computer skills, which are fundamental to company work, and obtained relevant certifications. I also systematically developed professional document writing and presentation skills, which were recognized by my seniors during my internship. This experience demonstrated that I possess not only the fundamental competencies required for the role but also practical business acumen.
If given the opportunity to take my first step into professional life at your company, I will thoroughly execute assigned tasks based on ‘accuracy’ and ‘promptness’. Furthermore, in my relationships with colleagues, I will foster harmony based on respect and consideration, creating an atmosphere where all members of the organization move forward together toward the common goal of the company’s development. I particularly believe that the accounting and finance department is a core department that determines a company’s growth, stability, and ultimately its very survival. In this department, I will become a talent who contributes to safeguarding the company’s financial health through accurate and systematic fund management, and in the long term, to enhancing the company’s trust and value.
