Collection of Self-Introduction Components – Career History (IT/Mobile/Media)

This blog post introduces sample career history sections you can use when writing a self-introduction for IT, mobile, or media fields.

The Path of Editing

I have experience working as an editorial reporter at a newspaper company. My time at the newspaper provided invaluable experience, allowing me to deeply understand the entire media production process. Particularly, in a family-like atmosphere where the editor-in-chief generously shared their expertise with junior staff, I learned a great deal at the very beginning of my career. I directly observed and learned the entire process from article writing to final page layout, clearly grasping my role and responsibilities within it. I also mastered editing software and steadily built the practical skills needed for all aspects of editorial work. Most importantly, through continuous training in ‘copy selection’—understanding the flow of text and distilling its core concisely—I solidified my foundational skills in editorial design.
Afterwards, I moved on from the media company. Driven by a desire to experience more freedom in design and diverse fields, I joined a creative group specializing in books and publications. While the newspaper company allowed predictable design work within set rules and systems, the new environment was a dynamic workplace where everything happened simultaneously and content changed by the minute. Due to the nature of design agency work, urgent projects frequently required prioritizing the client’s needs above my own vision of perfection or schedule. While this process sometimes felt breathlessly intense, each moment a book was completed and released into the world, or diverse projects were actually realized, brought a profound sense of accomplishment distinct from my newspaper days. Ultimately, it was this sense of accomplishment that allowed me to endure the intense daily grind and build another layer of solid experience within me.

From Coloring to Game Development: My Journey of Challenge

I started my career in the IT industry, but initially focused more on the ‘coloring’ field than web development. Back in 2007 when I joined, smartphones hadn’t yet become widespread. Consequently, there were far more teams developing and servicing mobile content like coloring and ringtones than those focused on games. During that time, I handled the overall operations for a ringtone content service: data analysis, service Q/A, system statistical analysis and verification, upload/download management, and ringtone inspection and production. It was a period where I directly experienced market trends and gained a deep understanding of how content was created and consumed.
However, as time passed, the coloring market gradually reached saturation. When smartphones emerged, I became strongly convinced that ‘now is the time to develop apps.’ While continuing my studies in graduate school, I formally challenged myself to develop game apps. Later, I began working on game content publishing and contract management at an SK Group subsidiary. During this process, I built my own app development team and broadened my capabilities by experiencing the entire process: content planning, liaising with developers, app development and publishing, contract management, sales statistics analysis, and marketing management. Over four years of working on multiple projects, my desire to “focus solely on development at a company specialized in games” grew stronger.
Driven by this resolve, I transitioned to a small venture company specializing in adventure games. There, I deepened my experience as a developer by creating and launching two games over three years. Maintaining and operating these games clarified my goal: to create more creative and challenging adventure game apps without capital constraints. To realize this vision, I decided to join your company.

Combining My Major with Creativity

During my college years, the strength I was most recognized for was my flashes of brilliant ideas. Even when working on group projects with friends, while I might have been slower at implementing language compared to friends skilled in programming, my ability to concretize ideas and present new perspectives was unmatched. My deep interest and passion for the IT field made working in this sector a natural choice. However, upon self-reflection, I concluded that a pure developer role didn’t align with my inclinations. Thus, I entered the workforce not as a programmer, but as a web planner.
Thanks to my major in Information and Communication Technology, my first role involved planning and managing CRM systems. Leveraging my programming knowledge, I designed OLAP and data aggregation systems and was solely responsible for operating and managing the developed systems. During this process, I didn’t stop at simple system management; I continuously proposed improvement ideas reflecting actual user needs, thereby enhancing the system’s utility. I also gained broad experience, starting from planning game operation tools and extending to planning and developing content for games under development.
At the time, I was primarily responsible for planning and managing web-based programs. However, as the company’s business scope gradually expanded into mobile, I too had to adapt to the change. Consequently, I underwent retraining and began directly handling mobile planning tasks. This allowed me to build expertise in service planning and operations within the new platform environment.
Looking back, the experiences of combining my major knowledge with creative thinking to participate in various IT projects became the solid foundation that shaped who I am today. With strengths in conceptualization and planning over development speed, I leveraged these capabilities to grow with a broader perspective in the IT field. Moving forward, I intend to continue walking the path as a planner who brings my ideas to life, unafraid of change.

My IT Journey: Growth Through Expertise and Trust

During my university years, I worked part-time at ○○ Tech, handling computer network management tasks. Through this role, I also participated in server maintenance and acquired relevant certifications. Balancing academics and work was far from easy, but I believe this environment actually made me learn more efficiently. The awareness that time was limited pushed me to value every minute and second, focusing intensely—this became the driving force behind my growth.
It was immensely rewarding to see my capabilities expand as I developed my skills. This motivation drove me to pursue various IT certifications, including ○○, building my expertise. Later, as an intern in the technical sales support department, I gained sales skills, cultivating a well-rounded ability spanning both technology and business.
I believe developing expertise is paramount. After joining the company, I dedicated myself to acquiring specialized knowledge about the company’s technical domains and industry trends. Furthermore, while building relationships with business partners, I realized that ‘mutual trust’ is the foundation of all achievements. Moving forward, I will continue to create the best results based on expertise and trust, realizing the value of growing together.

Android App Project Experience

During my university years, I was actively involved in a program development club within my department. While I learned various programming languages, networking, and servers through my major courses, keeping up with the rapidly evolving trends in mobile technology was challenging. To overcome this limitation, I joined the club. Demonstrating programs we developed ourselves at the academic festival held annually during the school festival period was the club’s most important tradition and goal.
Upon becoming the club leader in my third year, I proposed and led a team on an Android-based healthcare application development project. While interest in health has recently surged across all ages and genders, consistently exercising amidst busy daily lives remains a persistent challenge. Building on this insight, we implemented features to categorize strength training and cardio exercises into short sessions (5 minutes) or longer ones (15 minutes), linking each with instructional videos. We also designed an intuitive interface displaying graphs showing calories burned and expected exercise benefits at a glance.
The development process was far from smooth. Although we researched and referenced countless materials online, unexpected errors and trial-and-error constantly arose during the programming phase. As the academic festival date approached, progress felt slow, and we often stayed up all night searching for solutions. However, by sharing ideas with my teammates and tackling problems one by one, we finally completed the program. The sense of accomplishment and joy when it ran on an actual smartphone is something I still can’t forget. The pride I felt upon receiving praise from professors at the academic festival was proof that the arduous efforts shared with my teammates had borne fruit.
This project taught me more than just development experience; it instilled in me the mindset of immersing myself fully toward a goal, the value of collaboration, and the perseverance to solve problems. Looking back now, I am certain that the challenges and passion of that time laid crucial groundwork for shaping who I am today.

Experience as an Entertainment Site Operator and Developer

After graduating from university, I joined the development team at Movie, a movie ticketing site. Given the nature of a ticketing platform, ensuring no errors occurred during real-time payment processing was the most critical task, requiring constant vigilance. Additionally, reliably managing the vast database accumulated over years of operation was another core responsibility for developers. I checked the site’s traffic and page views daily, analyzed daily search terms, and consistently managed updates to keep each menu’s database up-to-date.
The quarterly site renewal work was also a significant part of the schedule. Depending on whether the scope of the overhaul was a partial modification or a complete restructuring, the workload and duration varied, leading to late nights and overnight shifts lasting anywhere from a few days to nearly a month. Once a renewal was completed, frantic days immediately followed as we worked to fix various bugs to stabilize the service. Within this fast-paced work cycle, I sometimes felt like a year passed in the blink of an eye.
In my second year, the company embarked on a major overhaul to leap from a movie ticketing site to a comprehensive entertainment platform. Expanding into a comprehensive platform offering not only movie tickets but also reservations for plays, concerts, and other performances, along with DVD sales and VOD services, drastically increased the number of site pages. This, in turn, caused the scale of the linked databases to grow explosively. A particularly crucial task was implementing a unified search system capable of searching all content—movies, plays, concerts, and VOD—at once. This was a large-scale project requiring changes to the entire site structure, demanding company-wide collaboration to meet the launch deadline.
After many twists and turns, we successfully launched the service on the overhaul date, though the search function needed refinement initially. During this refinement, I discovered an error in the code responsible for fetching results when search terms were entered. Fixing this significantly improved the stability and speed of the unified search service. This experience gave me great satisfaction, not just for solving a problem, but for contributing to service quality improvement and enhanced user experience.
Looking back, the work during that time always demanded both meticulousness and speed in a rapidly changing environment. The experience of implementing new features under pressure and constantly identifying and improving issues to enhance service quality has become a valuable asset that has shaped me into who I am today.

3 Years of Network Development Experience

My time studying information and communications at a vocational high school was both enjoyable and meaningful. While network development and security classes were challenging due to their high difficulty, they sparked my competitive spirit, allowing me to dive deeper into learning. It was during high school that I first recognized my tendency to set goals and persistently dig into difficult tasks whenever they arose. I also learned the valuable lesson that setting a goal and working steadily towards it inevitably leads to good results. The more I studied, the more confident I became that the network and security field suited my aptitude well, and from that point, I decided this would be my career path.
After graduating high school, I joined a venture company as a network developer, responsible for network security tasks. As the youngest employee at the time, I received considerable care and guidance from my seniors, steadily learning network development and security work. While building up my experience and skills, the desire to “live abroad” grew stronger within me. Especially as I entered my third year at the company, I began deeply contemplating my future path. When I honestly shared my thoughts with my parents, they offered warm encouragement, saying they would gladly support me if it was a decision I had thought through thoroughly. As always, they gave me freedom and let me take responsibility for my own choices.
Ultimately, I decided to study abroad. While continuing my job, I enrolled in an academy to improve my English skills. As I take each step toward this new challenge, the spirit of challenge and perseverance I built since high school serve as my solid foundation. Moving forward, I aim to grow even more in the fields of networking and security based on these experiences, striving to become a developer who thrives on the global stage.

The Story of Creating Content Featured on Major Portals

My university experience winning a contest led me to begin my career at a content provider company supplying content to major domestic portal sites. After joining, I engaged in brainstorming sessions without time constraints to create better content, and proceeded with planning and production by thoroughly verifying and evaluating ideas through multiple planning meetings. Although team members often worked late due to heavy workloads, I approached every process with a mindset of learning, which made the work enjoyable. This experience allowed me to develop my own creative ideas and planning skills, practical application abilities gained on the job, high-quality content production capabilities, and smooth team communication skills. I am confident these will be a great source of energy for producing new content in the future.
I also managed the company’s official website. I took the lead in two major site redesigns conducted annually. Believing the website should be the closest communication channel to customers, I actively incorporated customer feedback and focused the redesign on improving inconvenient features. Subsequently, I planned and executed various events and promotions to encourage active use of the redesigned site, which successfully boosted site engagement. This work was recognized, and I had the honor of being selected as the ‘Employee of the Year’ at the year-end party.
These experiences taught me more than just how to perform tasks; they taught me firsthand how to plan and realize ‘content that people want to find’. Moving forward, I intend to leverage this experience and capability to create content that satisfies readers and consumers.

From the Fashion Scene to the Global Stage

I have experience working as a reporter for a global fashion magazine. This was right before I started my online store, a time when I was driven by youthful ambition and passion, diligently running around the scene to gather as much information as possible. When writing articles, I strove to create content in creative ways that went beyond simple information delivery. Especially for web promotional content, where visual impact is crucial, I studied design and presentation alongside writing to learn how to convey messages more effectively. I was confident this experience would form the foundation of the technical skills needed for my future work as a fashion MD.
After my journalism career, I operated a personal online store and planned and produced a magazine introducing fashion trends firsthand. This magazine was produced as a free publication and distributed at subway stations and to fashion industry professionals. Though it started small, I am refining the plan to develop it into a global fashion magazine in the long term. The greatest advantage of simultaneously planning and publishing the magazine is the ability to consistently gather the latest information from the fashion industry. This accumulated information and trend analysis can be actively applied to your company’s MD operations in the future and will also be highly beneficial for developing strategies aligned with market trends.

Connecting Through Music

After returning from Germany, I began working as a director for programs produced by a broadcasting station. This marked the start of my work to broaden cultural horizons by utilizing my field of study, an experience I approached with great excitement and anticipation. I selected specific themes, conducted in-depth analyses of various teachers’ works and musical expertise, and curated groups comprising diverse artists. I pioneered Korea’s first themed project in the art song field, translating all the texts for the entire repertoire. I also planned concerts and published a collection of translations.
Later, as a university professor, I stood at the lectern and hosted seminars inviting professors and lecturers. I continuously worked to help performers and general audiences more easily understand classical music, and I contributed many articles to monthly magazines. In this way, I have strived in various ways to realize popular communication, healing, and messages of hope through music.
