This blog post introduces how to effectively convey the planning and management capabilities required for IT solution roles in your resume, based on problem-solving focused practical experience.
Growth Process
“Discovering the spirit of cooperation through volunteering.”
Following my father, who regarded volunteering as part of daily life, I participated in many volunteer activities from a young age. My father is a self-made man in every sense. As a child, he was driven from home penniless, effectively becoming an orphan. He came to Seoul, sold newspapers, endured every hardship imaginable, eventually secured his own store, and is now a respected business owner with three shops. Despite his busy schedule, he never skips volunteering. He says there’s no way to repay the kindness of those who helped him when he was struggling, so he must give back to society through volunteering. Following his example, I went on volunteer activities and learned the spirit of cooperation. If I had to pick the most difficult yet enjoyable volunteer work, it would be dyeing the hair of elderly women. Being a man with rough hands, it was tough to accommodate the honest and unpredictable personalities of the grandmothers. One particularly difficult experience involved an elderly woman living alone who outright refused to let us into her home. I was quite flustered, but my fellow volunteers stepped in. Together, we prepared food, visited her home, and even enlisted the help of other nearby elderly women to persuade her. Eventually, her heart softened, and we were able to enter. Inside, we discovered she had lost the use of one leg. Seeing how those people helped me then, and witnessing the grandmother’s situation, made me realize that people live together with others, and that each person has their own circumstances. I think this experience allowed me to develop a broader way of thinking.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
“A planned personality, and survival of the fittest!”
The strengths of my personality are my planning ability and my habit of writing things down. I have a personality that focuses intensely on one thing. Through a past experience where I spent my entire summer vacation gaming and felt utterly empty afterward, I discovered I greatly enjoy setting goals and achieving them. While this trait is good for accomplishing one goal, it can be difficult when pursuing multiple objectives. Therefore, I always make plans and strive to act based on them. This way, even if I focus intensely on one thing, having a plan in place allows me to quickly shift direction to the next task. I believe this approach allowed me to master both English and Japanese while participating in club activities without hindering my studies. Another advantage is my habit of taking notes. In today’s world, where survival of the fittest is often said to prevail, I believe those who meticulously take notes are the ones who succeed. Especially since deciding on a career in IT solutions, I take extremely thorough notes during business administration and economics classes. I believe meticulous note-taking allows me to acquire and retain more knowledge.
As mentioned earlier, a drawback is that I focus intensely on one thing, making it difficult to shift direction to other tasks. However, I strive to turn this weakness into a strength by leveraging my nature of planning ahead and my enjoyment of communicating and collaborating with others.
Core Competency
“Analytical and Management Skills”
During college, I decided to accept tuition from my father but refuse any allowance. Consequently, I gained experience working various part-time jobs to cover living expenses. The most memorable was working at a struggling convenience store. It was an independent convenience store struggling to compete against various franchise outlets. Instead of quickly leaving because I thought it was doomed, I analyzed its weaknesses as a business student and worked to fix them. The store was extremely unclean, goods were haphazardly arranged, staff were unfriendly, and prices were higher than other convenience stores. I suggested solutions to the owner to address these issues, but he seemed resigned to the store’s fate and showed no interest in making changes. So I decided I had to take action myself. After getting permission, I started cleaning every corner of the store. For stubborn stains, I even mixed bleach to scrub them away. Slowly, I conducted an inventory, rearranged the store displays, and began moving outdated products to the back. I also suggested to the owner that we bundle items for sale and create package deals. As a result, during the year I worked there, the store transformed completely, and based on that change, customer traffic increased significantly. While I don’t know the exact sales figures, judging by how quickly the store turned over, I estimate customer traffic increased by about eightfold.
This shows my strong desire to analyze and manage. Those days, I worked diligently, thinking not just as a part-timer but as if I were the owner myself.
Work Ethic
“I am doing the most important work in the world”
I always worked thinking, ‘I am doing the most important work in the world.’ As mentioned earlier, this was true even during my part-time jobs. However, that situation was relatively favorable. In reality, when working part-time, working harder often meant being exploited and discarded. I lamented my situation as being used and discarded several times. Therefore, I decided that since I was born with the ability to work hard, I should work somewhere where my hard work matters and creates greater synergy. That’s when I discovered IT solutions. Identifying the problems within South Korea’s rapidly growing IT industry, determining how to effectively combine and deliver solutions, and solving these problems to enhance corporate performance – I believe this is precisely the work I must do, work that can be considered among the most important in the world. If I were to work directly in this field, I would approach it with strong self-confidence and a sense of responsibility, becoming someone who learns diligently and strives for excellence.
Post-employment aspirations
“I am just beginning, but precisely because of that, I possess intense passion.”
I am undoubtedly a talent just starting out. I lack extensive experience, possessing only knowledge and a few part-time job experiences. However, I possess that much stronger passion. This is the work I want to do, and believing I can do it, I have relentlessly trained myself. To stay abreast of IT industry trends, I subscribe to five newspapers, constantly clipping articles. When an unfamiliar field emerges, I stay up all night researching it thoroughly before sleeping. To avoid being stereotyped as someone who only knows management, I continuously engage in self-study. As a talent just starting out, I certainly lack know-how and have shortcomings, but I believe that makes me all the more passionate. If I join your company, I will work diligently with this passion, constantly learning and striving, so that in one year, you will see that the right person has arrived for this position. I look forward to working with you.
