In this blog post, based on experiences boldly tackling challenges even in unfamiliar environments, I’ll introduce how to effectively convey the proactiveness and drive suited for overseas trade roles in your application letter.
Growth Process
As a child, I was the kind of kid who could approach strangers without hesitation and quickly fit in. My hometown was an industrial area densely packed with factories, home to many foreign workers. There, I approached friends who were less fluent in Korean without hesitation, naturally spending time together. While other children my age sometimes treated them as strangers or acted cautiously because their appearance was slightly different, I naturally accepted from a young age that differences in appearance cannot define a person’s essence.
This attitude stemmed from my parents’ teaching to treat people based on their character and sincerity, not their appearance. They always told me that approaching others with an open mind rather than closing it could lead to unexpected joys or connections. I took their words to heart and tried to live by them. As a result, I still keep in touch with the friends I made back then, maintaining a steady friendship to this day.
Having accepted from a young age that ‘difference’ is not ‘wrong,’ and recognizing it as a form of diversity and individuality, I naturally became fascinated by the stories these friends shared about foreign cultures and lifestyles. This greatly broadened the scope of my thinking. I even nurtured a dream of one day visiting the foreign countries where they lived, experiencing life as a stranger myself. I came to believe that if I wanted to be respected as a foreigner in another country, I must first demonstrate an attitude of embracing people from other lands right here and now. This conviction profoundly influenced how I approach the world.
Since then, I have always strived to approach people with an open mind, learning to build relationships based on their inner character and sincerity, rather than their outward appearance or background. This process of growth provided an important direction for my life and became a valuable foundation that shaped who I am today.
School Days
My school days were a time when I experienced free and broad human relationships, unbound by age or gender. I never automatically viewed middle-aged or older people as difficult or hard to approach. Instead, I believed that with consideration to meet each other at eye level and an open mind, I could enjoy meaningful exchanges with anyone. This attitude stems partly from growing up in a large family, where I naturally developed close conversations and emotional connections with adults of various ages.
I enjoyed interacting with diverse people regardless of gender, age, or social standing, hoping these encounters and experiences would strengthen and mature my inner self. I was always conscious that, just as a stone rolling along a riverbed is constantly shaped by colliding with something, people too can only truly grow through the process of sometimes clashing and becoming entangled with others in relationships.
This attitude proved invaluable during my service industry part-time jobs. My ability to remain bright and energetic, even when meeting customers for the first time, stemmed not just from a desire to do the job well, but from the experiences and convictions I’d gained in human relationships. Rather than worrying about failure before even trying something new, I believed it was better to learn and grow through the process, even if it meant some trial and error. This mindset helped me develop the ability to remain calm and composed in any crisis situation.
Friends often envied my boldness and asked for the secret. But it wasn’t any special skill or trick; it stemmed from a firm conviction to never fear facing people and to trust myself in any situation. I believe that conviction is the powerful weapon that allows me to present myself confidently and boldly whenever I find myself in unfamiliar environments.
On the Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
I possess an exceptionally approachable personality that can break down the walls between people and connect naturally. Many hesitate to reach out when forming new relationships, often considering certain expectations or hurdles they have for the other person. However, I approach people without hesitation, believing that any encounter can ultimately become nourishment for my life. This attitude of mine can sometimes come across as bold or fearless, but it has also laid the groundwork for me to build diverse and wide-ranging relationships with many people.
Of course, not every encounter is always smooth or beneficial. Sometimes I face unexpected difficulties or uncomfortable situations. Yet I accept even those experiences as part of life, taking time to process them well, and ultimately using them as fertilizer to make me more mature. My optimistic attitude of “nothing ventured, nothing gained” has led me to embrace new relationships as opportunities rather than fear them. Thanks to this, I’ve been able to live actively communicating with countless people until now.
That said, not everyone shares this perspective. Some emphasize the principle that “human relationships require caution,” expressing concern that becoming too easily close with too many people could lead to regret. I’ve also heard advice that truly lasting relationships are inevitably limited, and indiscriminate connections can lead to emotional exhaustion.
Yet I’ve always accepted even such concerns as valuable feedback prompting self-reflection, steadfastly holding onto my own principles. Even if an encounter proves fleeting or its conclusion leaves me wanting, the emotions and experiences gained within it always leave something lasting within me. Ultimately, I’ve cultivated a broader perspective and deeper heart by treating what I’ve learned and felt through diverse relationships as life’s assets.
Meeting people sometimes requires caution, but it also demands courage and an open heart. For me, relationships are not merely ‘encounters’ but a process of growth where we reflect on ourselves through each other and move toward better versions of ourselves. Therefore, moving forward, I wish to continue cherishing these human connections in my own way—carefully yet flexibly.
Values
I believe it’s far more efficient to dive in and try things directly rather than waste excessive time on preliminary research and value judgments before undertaking any task. No matter how meticulously you simulate things in your head, there are clear limits to what the human mind can imagine. If the answer ultimately lies in reality, I believe directly challenging something saves time rather than dwelling solely on contemplation. While many say life’s time is finite and opportunities shouldn’t be carelessly wasted, I consider spending excessive time on preliminary exploration a greater waste.
If you desire something, confront it head-on and challenge it. Even if you fail or encounter unexpected outcomes along the way, the attitude of willingly accepting that is what truly matters. Such experiences don’t merely end with the result; they become solid groundwork for the next step. This isn’t just a simple way of acting; it’s a crucial foundation for constantly tempering and growing oneself, and it’s also a core value that has guided the direction of my life.
Ultimately, for anyone seeking to proactively forge their own path in life, the most crucial qualities are the courage to confront uncertainty head-on and the mindset to transform even failure into an asset for growth. I too strive daily to live by this principle. While the journey may sometimes be rough and imperfect, I firmly believe the experiences gained along the way are strengthening my life.
Reasons for Applying and Aspirations After Joining
In the neighborhood where I grew up, there were many children of foreign workers who worked in factories. While many children avoided interacting with them, I was able to naturally connect and become friends without being bound by prejudice or preconceptions. I always considered encounters between people precious and believed it was wrong to erect walls simply because of differences in skin color, culture, or language. These values remain deeply ingrained in me today, and I have no hesitation in communicating and interacting openly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. My experience and attitude of easily adapting to unfamiliar environments overseas and proactively building relationships align well with your company’s talent philosophy, which values diversity and inclusion on the global stage. This is why I am applying.
If given the opportunity to work with your company, I will actively apply the experience and know-how I have accumulated over the years in the Southeast Asian region, where your company is currently focusing its attention and actively expanding its market presence. The vivid knowledge, keen sense, and close community networks I’ve developed through years of local engagement are assets in themselves. Furthermore, I take pride in my strengths beyond individual work capabilities: my affinity for connecting with anyone without reservation, the trust built through sincere communication, and the power of relationships forged by cherishing long-standing connections. I am fully prepared to leverage these strengths to create synergy for your company’s international growth and localization strategies. I am committed to not merely being another member of the team, but to growing alongside your company’s vision.
