Growth Journey
“The Son Who Makes His Mother Smile”
My father, who worked tirelessly for our family, and my mother, who shouldered the burdens of managing our large household. Despite undoubtedly facing many difficult moments, they never once showed any sign of hardship in front of their children. They always approached life with a bright and positive attitude, willingly accepting their circumstances and striving to live joyfully. I learned my attitude towards life from my parents’ example, and naturally, I never quarreled with my siblings over trivial matters or complained to my parents.
Father was the eldest son, and my mother had to care for four men: her husband, her two sons, and my uncle, who was born much later and lived with us, being eight years younger than me. As there were no sisters in the family, I always worried that Mother might feel lonely. From a young age, I tried to bring her laughter by being affectionate and playful. Though I was the eldest sibling, I was more affectionate than my younger brother. Naturally, I took on the role of brightening the household atmosphere. Making my mother smile became a great joy for me too, and so I grew up as the person who spread warm energy within our family.
During high school, I joined the science club, experiencing a more intimate group dynamic beyond the confines of my classroom. Through diverse relationships with seniors, juniors, and peers, I internalized the fundamentals of human interaction and learned how to communicate and collaborate within a community. In my sophomore year, serving as club vice president, I assisted the leader and contributed to the organization’s smooth operation. This naturally fostered a sense of belonging and community spirit within the group.
In this nurturing environment, I willingly embraced assigned roles and learned a way of life centered on consideration for others and harmonious coexistence. This attitude towards life, acquired within my family and the small society of school, will continue to serve as a solid foundation supporting me in the future.
Strengths and Weaknesses
“Introducing my positive and logical self”
I consider diligence and a strong sense of responsibility to be my greatest strengths. When faced with tasks, I tend to act immediately without procrastination and focus intently on completing assigned work until it’s finished. Even when given break time, I am so immersed in my work that I cannot fully relax until everything is finished. While this tendency can be a weakness in that it may place excessive burden on myself, I am aware of this and strive to balance work and rest. By harmoniously allocating focus and leisure, I aim to increase work efficiency and, in the long term, achieve better results.
Furthermore, I maintain a positive attitude in any situation and possess a flexible nature that allows me to adapt quickly to new environments. This disposition enabled me to remain energetic and proactive even while helping my father with household chores from a young age. When I moved to Seoul for university and began living independently away from my family, I naturally adapted to this unfamiliar environment with a positive mindset. Adapting flexibly to change and embracing new challenges without fear are among my key strengths.
Furthermore, I possess logical thinking and excellent situational judgment. When encountering any object, phenomenon, or person, I have ingrained the habit of not settling for a superficial perspective but striving to interpret the underlying meaning and context in diverse ways. Even when making minor decisions, I strive to judge objectively, weighing whether it will genuinely benefit me or potentially harm me, rather than letting emotions sway me. This depth of thought greatly aids in achieving better outcomes beyond simple choices.
Ultimately, my character can be summarized as responsibility grounded in diligence, a positive mindset and exceptional adaptability, coupled with logical thinking and prudent judgment. While I occasionally push myself too hard in pursuit of perfection, I recognize this tendency and actively work to balance it, striving to become a more well-rounded individual. Moving forward, I aim to build upon these strengths for continued growth.
School Life
Dreaming of Becoming a “Programming Genius”
After enrolling in the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, I began taking major courses in earnest during my freshman year. This made me realize that military service could potentially impact my studies. Therefore, I decided to complete my military service before fully immersing myself in my major, enlisting relatively early.
I served as an administrative soldier in the military. Even amidst an unfamiliar organizational culture, I strove to maintain my usual proactive and positive attitude. I adapted quickly, viewing it as “a process everyone goes through.” I approached training diligently and executed assigned tasks thoroughly. As a result, I earned the trust of my superiors and peers, eventually being entrusted with the role of squad leader.
After discharge, I found myself in an environment where I could fully concentrate on my studies. I managed my time rigorously, balancing part-time work with my academic commitments. Amidst my busy schedule, I formed a study group with seniors and peers to consistently deepen my programming knowledge. This process naturally taught me the importance of collaboration; I deeply appreciated the value of consideration and communication while coordinating differing opinions to solve problems. The study group also significantly enhanced my learning effectiveness by allowing me to review class material.
As I immersed myself in my major studies, I developed a particular fascination with programming using the C language. Through repeated practice and assignments, I discovered my own logical thinking skills and intuition were stronger than those of my peers. I also took an interest in analyzing and applying open-source projects, which led me to develop and run my own mobile app. I asked friends to test the completed app and gained significant confidence from their positive feedback that it was ready for release.
Beyond diligently focusing on my major courses, my active personality ensured I didn’t neglect enjoying sports and travel. I frequently made time to go hiking with seniors and juniors in my department, and these outings became precious opportunities to relieve academic stress and recharge my energy. Amid the repetitive routine of shuttling between the library and the lab, these moments of encountering nature were meaningful times for self-reflection and regaining mental space.
Reason for Joining and Aspirations
“I will become a developer who speaks through results!”
Freshly graduated from university and now stepping into society for the first time, I am taking one step at a time toward my dream of becoming a developer. While my practical experience is still limited, my abilities were recognized at school, where I never once missed an A+ in programming language courses. I have steadily built my capabilities based on theoretical foundations and practical skills. Particularly, as an actual user of mobile devices, experiencing various apps and services firsthand, I developed the goal of implementing mobile technology that is easiest and most convenient to use from the user’s perspective. To become such a developer, I continue to learn and strive diligently.
I excel at rapidly acquiring new knowledge and skills, and I possess outstanding ability to apply this knowledge to solve real-world problems. I am confident these strengths will enable me to quickly adapt to diverse work environments within the company and efficiently execute assigned tasks. Furthermore, I firmly believe that ‘people are ultimately the most important factor, no matter where you are.’ I value collaboration with colleagues and will always approach my work with an open mind and sincere attitude, ensuring I fulfill my role within the team.
Moving forward, I will do my utmost to become a developer who speaks through results and earns trust through skill. Skill is fundamental; attitude is everything. I will never stop learning and will grow into a developer who positively impacts the organization I belong to through effort and continuous improvement.
