This blog post introduces effective structuring tips for writing a standout cover letter when applying to cultural content companies, complete with real examples.
Reason for Applying
I have a deep passion for various cultural activities, including performances. While my major in college was public administration, I actively pursued and nurtured my interest and affection for culture through club activities and diverse social experiences. In particular, my experience planning and hosting numerous performances through my group sound club activities was invaluable. It not only honed my planning and execution skills but also allowed me to truly feel the emotion and impact that cultural content conveys to people. Based on this experience, I am convinced that CJ E&M is the place where I can take my passion and capabilities to the next level, and this conviction is my motivation for applying here.
My goal is to combine my major in Public Administration with the musical experience gained through club activities to unlock new possibilities in music content. Drawing on the planning skills and organizational perspective cultivated through public administration, along with my musical sensibility and passion, I aim to contribute to creating innovative and fresh music content. As seen in the recent case where a Korean artist’s video resonated globally, music is a powerful medium that transcends borders and deeply touches people’s emotions. I believe CJ E&M is the most suitable platform to further amplify music’s impact and create globally competitive content.
CJ is more than just a company that produces and distributes content; it is a true cultural enterprise leading the way in introducing Korean cultural content to the world. CJ’s vision of realizing its corporate philosophy, ‘Creating a More Abundant World Through Culture,’ by discovering the value of our culture and expanding it globally, deeply aligns with my own direction. At CJ E&M, which holds a sincere affection for Korean cultural content, I wish to systematically learn and grow my passion for music, and further develop into a member of the global music business.
University Life and Competencies
During my university years, I majored in Public Administration, building specialized knowledge across diverse fields including planning, organization, and policy. Beyond this theory-based academic foundation, I actively pursued my passion for cultural activities through club and extracurricular involvement. Notably, I participated in a group sound club at school, gaining hands-on experience in planning and executing performances. Beyond simply performing music, I gained responsibility and a sense of organizational management by collaboratively tackling practical aspects like preparation, coordination, and schedule management to make performances happen. Outside of school, I consistently participated in choir conducting and accompaniment activities, developing communication skills with diverse age groups and gaining valuable experience in emotionally connecting with others through music. These diverse activities broadened my cultural sensitivity and provided opportunities to transform my passion for music into a sense of accomplishment.
Among my numerous college experiences, the ○○ internship stands out as particularly memorable. This internship allowed me to develop practical skills related to content planning and development. At the time, I worked in the smart home development team, where I was tasked with developing content to enhance the utility of pad devices. Early in the project, I noticed the existing product’s limited appeal to homemakers and began brainstorming solutions. Aiming for a ‘pad the whole family can use together,’ I proposed various ideas. Among them, the ‘Idol Pad’ concept, inspired by the Hallyu wave, received significant enthusiasm within the team. This idea, which actively incorporated domestic idol content, was positively evaluated as a strategic approach that broadened the target customer base, going beyond simple functional expansion. Through this process, I gained a tangible understanding of how content can extend and immerse the user experience beyond mere information delivery. I also deeply grasped the importance of creativity and user-centered thinking required of a planner.
Looking back, my university years were precious times that allowed me to refine and grow myself through diverse experiences, going beyond mere academic acquisition. The activities during this period laid the foundation for me to think and act independently, solve problems in any field, and I am confident they will remain a significant asset in my future journey.
Extracurricular Activities and Achievements
During my university years, I operated a music club called ‘Group Sound,’ where I could freely express my passion for music. Group Sound was more than just a club activity; it was a precious space where I could express creativity and freedom, and simultaneously a meaningful platform to develop my musical abilities. Particularly memorable was the experience of planning and staging our regular performances. Completing a single stage involved conceiving the performance concept, sharing ideas with team members, securing external sponsors, and coordinating with sound companies—a process that was never easy, yet immensely valuable. Those experiences, forged through voluntary action and tackling each challenge head-on, gave me a tremendous sense of accomplishment and remain a cherished asset to this day. I can confidently say that this time, which went beyond simple musical activities to encompass the entire process of planning, collaboration, and execution, was a valuable learning period that cultivated my proactive work ethic and problem-solving skills.
