How to Write a Genuine Motivation Statement for a Production Support Position?

This blog post introduces how to write a cover letter that authentically conveys your experience and motivation when applying for a production support role.

My Background

My father runs an auto repair shop. Since he’s been doing this work since I was very young, the repair shop wasn’t just a workplace to me—it was a familiar and comfortable space. When I visited the shop where my father worked, he always made sure I played only inside the shop, but I found watching him repair cars far more interesting and fascinating. The shop was filled with intricate, unfamiliar parts, and those mechanical devices felt like magic to me. Above all, the moment a broken-down car, after passing through my father’s hands, would roar back to life with a ‘vroom vroom’ and move powerfully again left a deep impression on my young self. That sight was so impressive and cool that I remember staying put, watching until my father finished the repair.
When the repair was done, my father would ask, “Why weren’t you inside the shop?” but he always smiled, hugged me, gave me a piggyback ride, and ran a lap around the car. Each time, just being with my father made me feel incredibly happy and warm. Another thing that left a deep impression was how my father treated customers. I often watched him talking with customers at the repair shop, always greeting them with a bright smile and sincere care. I could feel that the customers really liked him that way, and the shop was always filled with laughter.
Seeing my father like that, I naturally began to think, ‘I want to be that kind of person too.’ A person who gives their all to their work, takes pride in it, and builds bright, cheerful relationships with others. I resolved to live like my father—taking responsibility for my work, approaching every moment with sincerity, and sharing a warm atmosphere with those around me. And now, I am living out that resolution. I have always given my best effort to whatever task was given to me, never giving up even when faced with difficulties. I always wished the places I occupied would be filled with bright energy and laughter, and I have actively strived to create such an atmosphere.
The attitude toward life I naturally learned from my father since childhood is the greatest foundation that shaped who I am today. I intend to uphold that value going forward and strive to be someone who brings trust and warmth to everything I do.

School Days

My school years were a time for broadening my social circle and expanding my horizons. My bright and outgoing personality allowed me to get along well with everyone, making school life consistently enjoyable. In elementary school, I actually found playing with friends more fun and familiar than studying. Being naturally athletic, I started sports around fourth grade and went on to compete in various tournaments, achieving good results. I competed in various tournaments held in Seoul, achieving excellent results, and even had the honor of participating in the National Youth Sports Festival. While focused on sports, I never neglected my schoolwork. In sixth grade, despite being part of the sports team, I was elected class president. This remains a great source of pride for me.
Even after entering middle school, I continued to get along well with my friends, and many looked up to me. Perhaps because I was on the sports team, no one picked fights with me for no reason, and I attended school peacefully throughout my school years without a single fight. That said, I wasn’t the type to show off my strength or cause trouble. Rather, I was quiet, diligently doing my part, and I always did my best in class, making sure not to neglect my studies just because I was on the sports team. However, as time passed and I advanced through the grades, I faced the reality that sports could no longer be my future. My grades, which had initially been in the top tier, gradually declined around my third year, leading me to conclude that attending a sports high school or a high school for athletic scholarship students would be difficult. Ultimately, I chose to give up sports and pursue a humanities-focused high school.
Shifting my focus from sports to academics was far from easy. While I hadn’t completely abandoned studying, catching up to peers who had consistently prepared required immense time and effort. Yet I didn’t give up. As I always had before, I pressed forward steadily at my own pace without rushing. Through that effort, I gained admission to university. Now, as an adult facing my father, I feel a deeper sense of responsibility for my own path.
Even after becoming a university student, I juggled my studies with part-time work to ease the financial burden. I took on various jobs to cover tuition and living expenses, but the one I immersed myself in most was telemarketing. I poured such passion into this work that I even took a leave of absence to focus on it. I always arrived first to check tasks, meticulously managed customer relationships, and gave my absolute best. Since incentives were directly tied to performance, I approached the work with even greater motivation, achieving remarkable results. My success was so notable that fellow female employees sometimes asked for my secrets to success. That experience remains a valuable asset to me today.
Looking back, my school years were not merely memories, but a journey of growth through relationships, and of finding my path through challenges and choices. Through diverse experiences, I learned responsibility and diligence, and I aim to build an even stronger future upon that foundation in my life ahead.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality

I met my current wife through a precious connection from my past workplace, and we got married. She often tells me something that I believe is my greatest strength. She says she decided to marry me because, having observed me closely over time, she saw that I never lie and always keep my word once I’ve spoken it. I, too, have always strived to honor my words and promises, and this has become an integral part of my character. Naturally, I developed an attitude of giving my utmost effort to any task given to me, living by the principle: ‘If being the best in a given situation is difficult, then choose to do your best.’ Thanks to this, I’ve strived never to neglect any moment in my life so far and have always approached my responsibilities with sincerity.
Of course, I have shortcomings too. People around me often tell me I “lack decisiveness” or am “indecisive.” This stems from my nature of carefully weighing every decision; I tend to take time to decide because I deeply consider multiple perspectives. Furthermore, when evaluating relationships or actions, I strongly tend to consider not only my own perspective but also the other person’s viewpoint. Consequently, I often hesitate when choosing a single course of action. I believe this trait doesn’t change easily because it represents a deeply ingrained way of life for me. However, since this tendency has never once caused problems in handling tasks, I don’t think it should be viewed solely as a flaw.
Moving forward, I intend to continue living a sincere and earnest life, building on my own strengths. Simultaneously, I will practice making decisions with a bit more courage at times, striving to compensate for my shortcomings. Though I am not perfect, I am taking one step at a time today to become someone who always gives their best.

Career History (or Experience Demonstrating Work Capabilities)

Although I started somewhat late, I am now a prospective newcomer dreaming of my first job. It’s true I have no internship experience and no directly related career background. However, I found myself in a situation where I had to take responsibility for my family early on, and during that time, I worked more diligently than anyone else. Especially during my final year of school, I had to balance academics and work, leading to even more intense days. At the time, I worked the day and night shifts on the production line at a company called Technology, specifically in the CNC machining department within the PCB production line. Though it was my first time doing this work, I took the time to learn step by step and eventually reached a level where I could perform the tasks proficiently. Even in an unfamiliar environment and with unfamiliar tasks, I always gave my best effort to the work assigned to me and faithfully carried out my role. As a result, I never once received an evaluation stating I was lacking. While I may not have formal career experience, I am confident that based on my sense of responsibility and perseverance, I can sincerely learn and accomplish any task.

A Maxim and Life Attitude

L. Ron Hubbard said:
“Never regret yesterday. Life is in today’s me, and tomorrow is what I make it.”
I have lived my life deeply resonating with these words. I do not regret the decisions I have made. I have always strived to be fully present in ‘this very moment’ and avoid looking back on things that have already passed. Because I believe dwelling on the irreversible past is merely a waste of time and emotion. In fact, I think this attitude has been the driving force that has led me to focus more intensely on the present and live meaningfully.
Of course, everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes choices leave us with regrets. But I accept even those moments as part of the process that helps me grow. Rather than dwelling on regret, I feel it’s important to learn from the experience and use it to make better choices next time. The belief that life always flows around the present moment and that tomorrow is also shaped by my actions has become a fundamental principle guiding my life.
Moving forward, I intend to focus on the present rather than the past, responsibly walking my own path within it. While there is no such thing as a perfect life, I will never cease striving to live without regret.

Motivation for Application and Aspirations

I understand your company is an automotive parts manufacturer specializing in the production of automotive electrical wiring harnesses. Your flagship product, the wiring harness, has secured a high level of technological capability through a technical partnership with Japan’s Yazaki Corporation. In particular, I believe your growth into a company that exclusively supplies wiring harnesses to automotive manufacturers is a key indicator of your outstanding technological prowess and quality management capabilities. Recently, I understand you have initiated research into developing wiring for electric vehicles in collaboration with a technology park. This wiring harness technology for EVs is gaining even greater attention as it aligns with the launch of electric vehicles by automakers. Your company’s continuous pursuit of challenges and growth amidst such a changing market environment has deeply impressed me. As I have always strived to move forward in a progressive direction, I have developed a strong desire to apply my capabilities and grow together with a company like yours.
Should I join your company, I will do my utmost to make a tangible contribution to the assigned department, leveraging the specialized knowledge I acquired in university and the logical thinking skills built upon it. I will not merely apply learned knowledge but will strive even harder to quickly master the skills required for on-site operations. I will take responsibility for assigned tasks and continuously develop myself to ensure they lead to tangible results. While there may be differences between theory and practice, I am confident that the engineering foundation I have built will serve as a meaningful base for actual work performance. I will always approach my work with a mindset of continuous learning and do my utmost to achieve both the company’s growth and my own personal development.
