How to Write a Successful Self-Introduction Letter for Property and Casualty Insurance Companies

In this blog post, I share a sample self-introduction letter I personally wrote while preparing to join a property and casualty insurance company. I focused on the flow and expression of the writing.

My Growth Journey

I constantly pondered who I was, yet days of frustration continued without finding clear answers. Once I got lost in thought, my mind became cluttered, endlessly repeating questions about why I studied and what life’s meaning was. Consequently, while I was the most diligent and exemplary student at school, at home I often became a daughter who struggled to control her emotions and rebelled against her parents. I frequently got worked up and angry over my parents’ slightest remarks, and I myself couldn’t understand this side of me, which was confusing.
Then, a major turning point came during middle school. When I heard that a classmate’s father had passed away, I, as the class president at the time, went to pay my respects at their home as the class representative. This friend, who always radiated positive energy with her bright and cheerful personality, was actually the eldest of five siblings. They lived in a shabby house that seemed far too small for seven people. She always came to school looking neat and tidy, so none of us in the class could have imagined she was in such circumstances.
After that day, I felt ashamed of myself. Living under my parents’ care without lacking anything, I felt infinitely small, and I reflected deeply within myself. Later, one day returning from cram school, I happened to see that friend selling fish in a corner of the market. Instinctively, I turned my head, worried she might feel embarrassed. Instead, she recognized me first, beamed a bright smile, and greeted me warmly. After we grew a bit closer, I cautiously asked her once, “Doesn’t that work make you feel ashamed?” Without hesitation, she replied. “I’m responsible for my family’s livelihood. There’s no shame in doing what I do for them.”
Those words still remain vividly in my heart. Through that friend, I learned the strength and sense of responsibility of someone who can bear life’s burdens with dignity. And after that day, both my perspective on the world and my attitude toward reflecting on myself changed. Above all, the fact that those times of deep contemplation about life ultimately led to such precious realizations made me even stronger.
This experience became a decisive turning point in my growth and still serves as a guide to keep me from losing my direction in life. It laid a solid foundation for finding the answer to what kind of person I should live as, and I intend to live without forgetting this mindset going forward.

School Days

I firmly believed that acquiring sufficient knowledge was paramount to facing the world with confidence. While I always had an interest in mathematics, I had little interest in science, so I naturally chose the liberal arts track. In college, majoring in economics allowed me to somewhat satisfy my thirst for mathematics. During my university years, while immersing myself in my major studies, I also actively participated in various volunteer activities to practice the value of living together. In particular, my experience participating as a mentor in a rehabilitation program at a youth protection and custody facility left a profound resonance in my life. At first, I think I harbored some prejudice. The thought that ‘I must guide them onto the right path’ seemed to take precedence, and I unconsciously acted like a moral teacher. However, as time passed, I naturally gained emotional perspective and learned to see them as they truly were. These children had simply been caught up in situations without even recognizing their actions as crimes, because they hadn’t received sufficient love and attention at a young age and hadn’t had proper educational opportunities. Ultimately, their circumstances were no different from those of ordinary children; in fact, they were in a far more heartbreaking situation. Through this experience, I naturally began to deeply contemplate the structural issue of ‘economic imbalance’ and pondered how to break the chain linking poverty to crime and social exclusion. From that point, I set the goal of researching effective economic policies for the impoverished, which became the unwavering driving force that propelled me all the way to earning my PhD in Economics. Looking back now, I believe it was this combination of a thirst for knowledge and the experience of striving to understand people and society that shaped who I am today.

Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality

I am someone who possesses the drive to follow through once I set my mind on something. However, I tend to invest sufficient time and effort into careful consideration before making such decisions. Rather than acting on simple impulse or momentary emotion, I am the type who only makes a decision after weighing various possibilities.
After completing my PhD in Economics, my parents hoped I would pursue an academic career as a professor. But I made my intentions clear. I felt I had done enough research and now wanted to practically apply the knowledge I had accumulated. I resolved to not just observe the world from within a laboratory, but to directly participate in creating policies that could positively impact society or developing services that improve people’s lives.
Even when a teaching offer came immediately after earning my doctorate, my resolve remained unshaken. I had already set my course and trusted that choice. Of course, rejecting a stable path to challenge a new field wasn’t easy, but I valued the potential and the change my decision could bring even more highly.
I am someone who trusts my own judgment when facing important life choices and willingly takes responsibility for them. Moving forward, I aim not to simply drift with the current, but to confidently establish myself as an active participant in the world, walking the path I have chosen.

Career Experience (or Experience Demonstrating Work Capabilities)

While pursuing my master’s degree, I happened to come across news about an ‘Insurance Product Development Contest’. Five like-minded friends studying for their master’s with me formed a team and entered the competition. Initially, we wrestled with how to approach it, but we agreed that a systematic analysis of insurance products currently on the market was essential. Accordingly, we divided roles, systematically organized products from various insurers by category, and conducted comparative analysis of their structures, features, and coverage.
During this process, I was assigned to analyze your company’s insurance products. As I conducted the analysis, my interest in your company naturally grew. Beyond simple product comparisons, I researched various information about your company through multiple channels—including your corporate philosophy, business strategy, and customer approach. This allowed me to directly experience the distinctiveness and competitiveness of your products. I was particularly impressed by the product design, which faithfully fulfills insurance’s fundamental role while reflecting consumers’ actual needs.
Building on this experience, our team planned and developed a new type of insurance product designed to tangibly improve customers’ quality of life. Amidst fierce competition, we ultimately achieved an excellent result, securing second place. The effort poured into preparing for the competition, the collaboration process with my teammates, and above all, the journey to deeply understand your company’s insurance products were a significant learning experience for me. It also solidified my conviction about the insurance industry. Building on that passion and experience, I aspire to grow into a talent who can add tangible value to your company.

Motivation for Application and Aspirations

I have long held a deep interest in economic issues related to poverty. Specifically, I have continuously researched ‘economic democratization,’ a topic gaining significant attention recently. I hope this knowledge will be practically applied in real life, not merely remain theoretical. I am confident that research and planning, when organically combined rather than operating separately, can create the ‘ultimate product’ that delivers tangible value to society.
Your company’s products and management philosophy deeply resonate with me. I felt a strong sense of kinship, particularly because the issues I’ve consistently pondered align closely with your company’s direction. I believe that if we can form a relationship that moves forward together toward the same goal, transcending mere corporate and personal interests, the resulting synergy will be beyond imagination. When an organization and its individuals share the same vision under one philosophy, not only will performance improve, but pride in their work will also be amplified.
I have faith in my own capabilities and aspire to achieve even deeper results in this field. I am confident that, together with your company, I can make meaningful contributions based on my knowledge and passion. I will always approach my work with sincerity. Please watch over me.
