In this blog post, I’ll share how to effectively express your practical skills and growth potential in your resume, based on your love for video—from everyday recording to content creation.
Growth Process
As a child, whenever my family gathered, it was always my job to grab the camcorder and film home videos. I was barely old enough to hold the camcorder properly, but I always pestered my father, “Let me try filming!” And so, I became our family’s official cameraman. Though I was clumsy at focusing or adjusting the height, making the footage so shaky and jittery it could give you motion sickness, my father always encouraged me. “Next time, you’ll be able to create something even better,” he’d say, graciously calling my clumsy efforts “works.” Thanks to his warm encouragement, I gradually strengthened my resolve to shoot better footage.
My passion for filming, born that way, grew day by day, and my clumsy skills gradually improved. I quickly mastered the camcorder’s functions, which even my father struggled with at first. As the focus became sharper and the shakiness lessened in my blurry, shaky videos, I began to take pride in my work. I developed a desire to shoot even better footage, and that desire eventually led to a longing for better equipment. So, I saved up my allowance little by little and, with my father’s help, achieved the great feat of acquiring a new camera. From then on, I began filming much more seriously. Looking back at the videos I shot before, I can still feel the growth and passion of that time.
Thanks to my father, all the ‘works’ I shot back then are carefully preserved and still cherished today. Watching those old videos now makes me smile involuntarily. While those early videos represent the starting point that shaped who I am today, the skills displayed were often too unpolished to show anyone. Nevertheless, the experience and passion gained through that process have guided me to this day, and the lessons learned from those videos have become a valuable asset to me.
My video journey, which began with a childhood camcorder, has now blossomed into a major passion, continuing to evolve. Those early videos may have been just amateur work, but the growth and learning gained from them remain deeply meaningful to me today.
School Life
During my school years, video filming, which began as a personal hobby with my father’s active support, gradually expanded through club activities into interactions with more people. Back then, there weren’t many around me who shared my interest in video filming or wanted to build related knowledge, so I had to learn and master things clumsily on my own, bit by bit. However, after entering middle school and formally joining the filming club, my skills began developing rapidly as I was influenced by various seniors and peers. What I realized at that point was how enjoyable and meaningful it was to share opinions and experiences with people who had the same interests as me. While I could feel that joy alone, the experience of exchanging ideas and growing together was ultimately on a different level from the joy felt solo.
That’s when I began seriously dreaming of a career in video production. Embracing that dream felt daunting and nerve-wracking at the time, because I was considering turning a hobby I started as an amateur into a serious profession. I worried whether I was even worthy of dreaming it, knowing the world was full of people far more skilled than me. Nevertheless, thanks to my club friends who recognized my abilities and actively supported me, and my father who always believed he would support me no matter which path I chose, I was able to move toward my dream with gradually growing confidence. Although back then my focus was blurry and the framing and composition weren’t always right, looking back on those imperfect moments and reflecting on the experience of growing through them, I felt certain that infinite possibilities still lay ahead. That’s why I could decide to walk my own path without hesitating out of fear anymore.
That experience still gives me great strength today. The confidence gained through that growth and the precious interactions with my peers further fueled my passion for the field of video. I still have shortcomings, but feeling that I’m developing every moment, I will continue moving toward my dream.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I am someone who believes that even if I don’t appear perfect right away, I can fill my future with possibilities through consistent effort. There are many people in the world with greater talent than me and those who have already achieved remarkable success as experts. Among them are individuals who accomplish highly challenging tasks that I find difficult to match. Nevertheless, I believe my passion for video-related work is unmatched by anyone. I am always moving forward step by step, driven by steady perseverance and passion. I hold the belief that this effort will eventually yield good results. While I may be clumsy and lacking in certain areas now, I am confident that such shortcomings can be overcome through consistent effort. By taking each step steadily and methodically, I am certain that at some point, I will reach a certain level of proficiency.
Some might say that I prioritize interest alone when choosing a career. They might argue that I should consider ‘salary’ or ‘practical concerns’. However, I believe that if I do work I don’t genuinely desire, any job will ultimately be painful. Therefore, I always strive to make serious and careful decisions so that my choice can be the best possible answer. Of course, practical factors are important, but for me, the most crucial thing is being able to do work I truly love. Even as I walk that path, I believe that choice is ultimately the right one for me.
I write this to clearly express the values and beliefs I pursue. While I acknowledge my shortcomings and inexperience, I realize that the process of gradually overcoming them is a vital part of my life. I will continue to move step by step toward that dream with my passion and effort.
View on Life
I believe each person walks a unique path in life. We all possess different innate abilities and interests, and each path is intertwined with diverse possibilities and complexities of happiness and sorrow. Therefore, looking at others’ paths and lamenting, “Why can’t I live like that person?” is inherently unnecessary. We are born with different conditions, and our destinies are equally distinct. In this sense, rather than living by envying or comparing ourselves to others’ paths, it is crucial to acknowledge our own path and advance along it. While the desire to envy others’ paths can sometimes be understood as a human emotion, if it simply leads to jealousy and wastes time that could be spent on our own growth, it truly becomes unnecessary. Ultimately, the person you admire or the one who chose that path will shine brighter and develop further, and the gap between you will only widen. When that happens, your own path may seem increasingly bleak. The more this happens, the more you should solidify your own unique path. Discovering the uniqueness of your own path, nurturing it, and moving forward is the only way to achieve true development. Life may be an endless chronicle of comparison and envy, but the satisfaction felt at its end comes from not comparing. Ultimately, what we truly desire isn’t to stand above others through comparison, but to express ourselves best and grow on our own path, isn’t it? Walking our own paths and moving forward—that is the direction we should head.
Career History
I began building practical foundational experience at ○○ Production, where I spent two years overseeing various tasks including video editing and subtitle insertion. This experience provided me with a deep understanding of the entire video production process and allowed me to develop practical skills through hands-on projects. Subsequently, I worked as an instructor teaching video editing techniques at ○○ Academy for one year. I found great fulfillment in teaching students step-by-step from the fundamentals. This process allowed me to gain broader experience through communication with diverse individuals and discover the joy of sharing my skills with others. This career served as a catalyst for my personal growth and significantly helped solidify my expertise in the field of video production.
Motivation for Applying and Aspirations
As a child, I naturally developed an interest in video filming while handling the camcorder for my family. From that point, having my own role sparked my fascination with the field and became the catalyst for choosing this career path. In the early days, my skills were lacking—focus was often off, and I was clumsy—but my daily determination to improve fueled the hope that ‘if I work hard, I can succeed in this field.’ As time passed and I gained some experience, I still strive to hold onto that initial excitement and passion. I believe this commitment to maintaining my original mindset aligns perfectly with your company’s principle of seeking “young blood who can always focus on their duties with a fresh perspective.” That is why I am applying to your company.
Should I have the opportunity to work with your company, I pledge to give my utmost effort to every task and never slack off. I am acutely aware that I always start from an imperfect, inexperienced stage, making continuous effort to fill my gaps essential. Having persevered through countless efforts and trials to reach this point, I am determined to steadily develop further and become a talent who can provide greater value to your company.
I aim to demonstrate daily growth and contribute to your company’s advancement based on that progress. Even in challenging situations, I will maintain a positive mindset and a willingness to take on challenges, striving alongside your company toward higher goals. I will continue to develop and work diligently to meet your company’s expectations.
