Business Information Systems Academic Plan: How to Prepare for Admission?

This blog post introduces how to write an academic plan for the Business Information Systems major—which combines business and IT—along with preparation strategies, complete with examples.

Reasons for Choosing This Major

Since middle school, I have had a deep interest in both mathematics and computers, spending a long time contemplating which field to major in. During this time, my homeroom teacher informed me about a department where I could learn mathematical thinking and computer technology together. From that moment, I became interested in the Business Information Systems major.
The Business Information Systems program appealed to me because it offers comprehensive learning across various fields I find fascinating—including programming, the internet, statistics, databases, and networks—alongside foundational business knowledge. I am confident this curriculum, which balances practical skills with theoretical foundations, will allow me to develop my interests and capabilities in a well-rounded manner. For these reasons, I have chosen Business Information Systems as my major.
Furthermore, learning about your university’s ‘7+1 Curriculum’ solidified my decision to apply. This program, which allows students to spend one semester studying at a prestigious overseas university during their eight-semester undergraduate program, presents an invaluable opportunity to gain a global perspective and practical experience. It aligns perfectly with my goal of growing into a globally-minded professional capable of adapting to our rapidly changing times.
The Department of Business Information Systems is a multidisciplinary field that integrates business management and information technology, demanding highly creative and diverse perspectives. Therefore, I believe it is a stage where anyone who loves learning new things and constantly challenges themselves can fully unleash their capabilities and aspirations.
Upon enrolling at your esteemed institution, I aim to develop into a professional equipped with both business acumen and exceptional computer programming skills. To achieve this, I will dedicate myself wholeheartedly to my studies, striving tirelessly with sincerity and passion. Through the fascinating and future-oriented major of Business Information Systems, I intend to build my own expertise and competitiveness, taking steady steps toward becoming a contributor to society.

Academic Plan and Goals

If admitted to your institution, I plan to first actively study with deep interest in cutting-edge information technology fields, including computers. Guided by an unceasing thirst for new knowledge and intellectual curiosity, I will diligently engage with my major studies and cultivate expertise through systematic learning.
Additionally, I will strive to master various areas of business activities—such as marketing, accounting, finance, organization, and production management—along with the latest management techniques. To this end, I intend to consistently scrap newspapers and news articles, and cultivate the habit of analyzing the latest trends and market currents by referencing specialized economic and industry publications. I understand that your institution’s curriculum includes numerous practical classes where students can directly utilize diverse hardware and software equipment. Through these hands-on experiences, I plan to develop the practical skills demanded in real information management settings, focusing on acquiring knowledge through experience beyond mere theory.
I have also established specific plans for each academic year. During my sophomore year, I intend to participate in a language study abroad program to strengthen my language proficiency. By learning English and interacting with students of diverse nationalities, I aim to enhance not only my language skills but also my global awareness. In my junior year, I plan to minor in Psychology to cultivate insights that will enable a deeper understanding of consumer behavior and psychology. I believe this will significantly contribute to building practical competitiveness in future marketing or CRM fields. Finally, in my fourth year, I plan to complete a CRM specialist program at a private educational institution. This will further elevate my expertise in customer management and data-driven marketing.
With these clear goals and concrete action plans, I will dedicate myself to my studies and actively utilize the diverse educational programs offered by your institution to grow into a practical professional. I will strive to ensure my future university life becomes a valuable journey of deepening self-understanding and personal development, extending beyond mere knowledge acquisition.

Post-Graduation Plans

Many companies today require professionals who can develop statistical models based on marketing strategies and effectively validate them. As customer needs grow increasingly diverse and complex, maximizing marketing effectiveness through intuition or experience alone is difficult. Without experts possessing analytical capabilities, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems struggle to function fully.
I aspire to become an expert who collects and analyzes internal and external corporate data related to customers, researching CRM systems that can be organically linked to corporate strategy. Beyond simply interpreting data, I want to design systems that strategically manage customer relationships based on analyzed information, thereby maximizing corporate business performance. Ultimately, my dream is to grow into Korea’s top CRM expert, capable of accurately grasping customer information, analyzing it, and tightly linking it to corporate management strategies.
CRM is a strategic effort to integrate a company’s marketing activities with IT technology to achieve goals more effectively. However, if building a CRM system leans too heavily toward either a marketing or IT perspective, the system will fail to fully realize its original purpose. Therefore, I aim to grow into a convergent expert who balances both marketing and IT perspectives. I aspire to become someone who designs CRM systems that create tangible value within the changing market environment—a professional who understands marketing trends and possesses technical implementation capabilities.
After graduation, I plan to gain practical experience in related fields, study diverse corporate case studies, and continuously develop my expertise to achieve these goals. Thus, I intend to steadily walk the path of becoming a CRM expert who bridges companies and customers, grounded in customer-centric data analysis and strategic thinking.

Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)

My life philosophy is to become a person with a distinct identity—someone who, no matter which organization or group they belong to, is remembered as ‘○○○’. I believe that if someone is considered indispensable while present but leaves no trace after departing, their social life cannot be considered successful.
I aspire to be not merely someone who exists within my community, but someone who leaves a lasting impression. Therefore, I aim to clearly express my unique character and way of thinking wherever I am, so that even in my absence, I remain in someone’s memory for a long time. The same applies to my work. I will strive relentlessly to be recognized as the best in my field.
A diamond, before being polished, is merely a hard stone. In terms of composition, it’s not much different from a pencil lead. But after hundreds of meticulous polishing processes, that hard stone is reborn as a precious gem that radiates brilliant luster. People are the same. No matter how good your innate conditions or talents may be, if you don’t consistently polish yourself, you will ultimately remain ordinary. Yet I believe those who never hesitate to hone themselves will one day inevitably shine with their own unique light.
I am still merely a rough gemstone. But I strive relentlessly to refine and polish myself, striving to become someone who can one day shine with the brightest light—someone whose very name alone leaves a powerful impression.
