In the copywriter role, where observational skills and expressiveness are crucial, here’s how to naturally and persuasively weave these competencies into your resume.
My Growth Journey
As a child, my first encounter with the internet through my older brother opened up a world of infinite possibilities and wonder—truly my first meeting with a new universe. Though my parents had set up a computer at home with educational goals in mind, they didn’t fully grasp its utility or potential back then. My older brother, however, who was experiencing the advancements in information technology firsthand, was ready to open the door to this new world for his younger sibling.
Though the modem connection was painfully slow compared to today’s blazing internet speeds, it was enough to fill me with wonder back then. I could chat with people who weren’t physically present, view images and photos, search for knowledge instantly without flipping through books, and enjoy various games. All these experiences were possible thanks to my brother, who served as a skilled guide at the very entrance to this new world called the internet. I gradually stepped into that world, explored, found it fascinating, and grew increasingly familiar with it.
Our parents always admonished my brother and me, saying, “Just do it to the extent that it doesn’t interfere with your studies,” but we were already deeply immersed in the civilization of the internet. Like many parents back then, ours viewed computers as the root of all evil, and we often heard scoldings like, “If you just play around like that, when will you ever study?” Eventually, we were banned from using the computer. My brother resorted to all sorts of tricks, like secretly retrieving the power cord our parents had confiscated and reconnecting it, to fulfill our longing.
Looking back now, that time was undoubtedly difficult for our parents too. My brother and I, fixated only on our areas of interest and stubbornly persistent, must have been a considerable worry for our parents. But viewed from the present, those actions weren’t mere ‘obsession’—they were the sprouting of promising buds, already intuitively sensing the future to come. Today, my brother works at a company developing internet-related programs, and I am currently pursuing a career aligned with that path. The curiosity and inquisitiveness of my childhood shaped who I am today, and at the start of that journey was my brother, a steadfast ally.
Even now, I vividly remember myself back then, eyes shining brightly as I connected to the world through that slow internet. And I still carry that same curiosity toward new worlds, taking one step forward at a time.
School Days
During my school years, the ‘cultural artifacts of a new world’ I first learned from my brother opened doors to new realms for me. Sharing those fascinating and astonishing things with friends, I naturally immersed myself in games and web surfing after school. I remember always being engrossed in the online world back then.
Especially when encountering hard-to-find images or videos, and materials related to the sexual curiosity that every adolescent boy inevitably experiences at least once, I began to peek into a world difficult to encounter in reality, bit by bit, through my monitor. As I encountered various humor, social issues, and news, I gradually began to open my eyes to a new world. And so, the repetitive daily routine of adolescence, filled with similar routines, expanded colorfully through the channel of the online world.
Back then, I was consumed by the belief that ‘the world was rotten to the core and adults were incompetent.’ A mix of youthful arrogance and bravado led me to view the world cynically, yet simultaneously, I held my own resolve and ambition: ‘I won’t become like that.’ Looking back now, I realize that version of myself was still a child who didn’t truly understand the world. But it was precisely that immaturity that allowed me to burn with pure passion during that time. It was a time when unpolished ideals and ambitions, along with the will to believe in them and put them into action, filled me completely.
Back then, I watched the expansion of the ‘internet’ – a new space with influence rivaling traditional broadcast media like TV and radio, extending far beyond print media like books and newspapers – and was profoundly moved. Its increasingly rapid growth and evolution left a powerful impression on me, inspiring a dream that someday I too would become someone possessing explosive power and influence like that medium.
Around that time, I even imagined that in the near future, a significant gap in quality of life might emerge between those who used the internet and those who didn’t, and that eventually, an era might arrive where daily life would be impossible without it. Indeed, witnessing technologies that were unfamiliar and difficult to adapt to just a short while ago being swiftly relegated to relics of the past, I felt a sense of crisis: that both the world and its people must keep pace with the ever-changing currents of the times, or risk being left behind.
And that sense of crisis soon became the driving force propelling me forward. I constantly pushed myself to react sensitively to change and not miss new trends. That’s how I faced the endless changes of the digital world, found my self within it, and gradually grew.
Personality Introduction
I am someone who consistently strives to stay current with the latest technologies and trends. Even if something isn’t directly related to my immediate field of interest, I understand that once you start falling behind the pace of change, the gap widens rapidly. Therefore, as long as I’m actively working, I remain highly sensitive to the world’s currents, always keeping my antennae up.
My personal background also plays a role in this tendency. While both my brother and I work in internet-related fields, our parents remain unfamiliar with smartphones and the internet. Seeing them unable to fully enjoy technology’s benefits and often facing inconveniences in daily life is frequently heartbreaking. There was a time when my brother and I passionately tried to help our parents, but changing their perception that “computers are the root of all evil” proved harder than expected. Their deep-seated aversion to digital technology meant even basic operations took considerable time to learn. Ultimately, our own time constraints led us to feel limited in our ability to help, and we ended up giving up partway through.
Through this experience, I learned an important lesson: Once you start falling into self-pity and self-deprecation, thinking “I’m already too late” or “Nothing I do works,” the gap that has opened up becomes incredibly hard to close. As time passes, that gap inevitably widens. When the difference becomes so clear, people easily become discouraged, finding it difficult to even muster the courage to start over. Ultimately, you become trapped in a vicious cycle of self-imposed fear and limitations, unable to move forward.
That’s why I strive to constantly reflect on myself, push myself forward, and maintain an attitude of adapting to change. Since the world’s changes never cease, I believe I too must remain constantly alert to keep pace. Even if I cannot perfectly follow every trend, I firmly believe the effort to avoid disconnecting from the times is essential. Such an attitude is the fundamental posture for preparing for the future and fostering personal growth.
Life Philosophy
The internet is a vast ocean overflowing with information. Within it, we aspire to be ‘sailors’ constantly launching messages. In other words, we aim to float the stories and values we wish to convey upon the digital waves, reaching the world.
I recall the era when cinema first emerged, and the moments when radio and television ushered in new eras. During those turbulent times, art and media expanded their reach in unprecedented ways, and the advertising industry evolved in step with these changes. Wherever people’s eyes lingered, countless individuals flocked to promote their products or services. This movement was especially vibrant in densely populated spaces like major cities.
And now, the internet has become the central hub consolidating all these currents. The online space, where countless people scroll through dozens or even hundreds of pages of content daily as they live their lives, has itself become the hottest and most powerful stage for communication. This digital platform, where anyone can speak, anyone can listen, and anything can spread, offers us new possibilities.
I’ve been observing one increasingly pronounced trend lately. The currents of thought and public opinion, which used to manifest through street voices or conspicuous actions, are gradually shifting into the invisible space of online discourse. I believe this is not merely a change, but a new form of communication and a shift in influence.
Therefore, rather than casually overlooking this trend, I want to reflect on it more deeply. I aim to sensitively detect how people’s thoughts, desires, and needs are changing, respond meticulously to them, and deliver authentic messages that bridge the gap between the times and the people.
We now live in an era where words and information flow faster than ever before. Within this, contemplating the direction I will take and the means through which I will communicate with people is not merely about survival. It is deeply connected to the direction I pursue in life—my very ‘worldview’.
Motivation for Application and Aspirations After Joining
As the times have evolved, the form of advertising has also changed, centering around the cultural and informational infrastructure that captures the most attention of the people of that era. The center of gravity shifted from radio to TV in the past, and today, the internet has established itself as the most influential medium. While TV’s presence remains strong, the rapid proliferation of smartphones and the establishment of an internet environment accessible anytime, anywhere have also amplified the potential of the online market to a level that cannot be ignored.
Amidst this trend, your company has accurately read the changing media landscape and actively grown by leveraging the development of internet culture. I was particularly impressed by how you seized the opportunity presented by the proliferation of smartphone-based digital platforms to implement location-independent advertising strategies, which has deepened my interest in your company.
If given the opportunity to join your team, I aim to realize strategies that consider the fundamental purpose and effectiveness of advertising, rather than simply focusing on increasing exposure. Specifically, I aim to precisely identify target audiences with high demand for your products or services. By focusing ad placements on the platforms and content they frequently engage with, I will drive more efficient results.
I will pursue advertising strategies that go beyond simple repetition, carefully considering the ‘timing’ and ‘context’ that naturally stimulate people’s interest and desires, ultimately leading to purchase. Much like naturally connecting people who are mutually interested, we will faithfully fulfill our role as an intermediary that satisfies both customers and the brand by revealing products at the appropriate time and place.
Moving forward, I will continuously learn and research within the changing media landscape, doing my utmost to become a talent who grows alongside your company.
