This blog post examines how an academic plan for the Advertising and Public Relations major shows not just a desire to enroll, but a deep understanding of the field and practical preparedness. It also outlines how an academic plan gains persuasiveness when core concepts, learning plans, and practical experience harmonize.
Motivation for Pursuing the Major (Reason for Choosing the Major)
I was born as the third daughter in a remote mountain village. Though it was an isolated place requiring a bus ride of several minutes just to go shopping, opening the window revealed a beautiful natural environment that nurtured my rich sensibilities. As a mountain village girl, books and television were my windows to the wider world. I often turned on the TV just to see the commercials, and reading Alison’s Marketing Rebellion solidified my resolve to pursue a career in promotion.
Your university offers the advantage of meeting professors who excel in both theory and practice, along with many alumni working at leading domestic agencies. Unlike other universities, your institution begins specialized major courses from the first year, providing an optimal learning environment for students who wish to realize their dreams in advertising and public relations. This aspect also appealed to me greatly.
Therefore, I aspire to enroll at your esteemed university, which equips students with the foundation to reach the pinnacle of any field—whether planning, production, strategy, or events—by providing a solid grounding in advertising theory, marketing, and production skills.
Academic Plan and Goals
Upon admission to your university, I will first dedicate myself to my major studies. Beyond core advertising and public relations subjects like fundamental concepts, research methods, theory, planning, and production techniques, I will also pursue related disciplines such as consumer behavior theory, media message analysis and strategy, and advertising sociology.
During my sophomore year, I plan to study abroad to enhance my language skills, learning English alongside students from around the world. I also intend to join an advertising club to develop my skills by submitting strong entries to various advertising competitions. In my junior year, I will choose psychology as a minor to cultivate the ability to understand consumer psychology. Finally, during my senior year, I will gain practical experience through an internship at a major advertising agency.
Plans after the Master’s Program
My goal is to work in public relations for a media company. I want to create persuasive press releases based on objective data and effectively promote my company and its products through constant communication with journalists.
Currently, I recognize my shortcomings in areas like language proficiency and acknowledge I am not 100% prepared. As the saying goes, “A bird that flies high sees far,” I will strive relentlessly to broaden my horizons. While articulating my thoughts accurately to others may be challenging, I will leverage my personality—which enjoys meeting people, exchanging opinions, and sharing ideas—to diligently prepare for the future.
Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)
I recently read a book titled ‘The Seventh Sense’ that left a deep impression. It explains that flashes of insight—those ideas that suddenly cross your mind—are formed from fragments of old and new memories. These flashes of insight then merge these fragments into a coherent ‘thought’.
This means those brilliant ideas we think of are never created in an instant. New inspiration can strike unexpectedly while hiking, painting, watching a movie, listening to music, taking photos, or writing a novel. That’s why I strive to cultivate insight through diverse social experiences, constantly injecting new stimuli.
I persistently work to improve and develop myself, always maintaining an open mind, a willingness to learn, and the resolve to embrace mistakes. Guided by my father’s teaching—that it’s better to teach someone how to fish than to give them a fish—I strive to achieve my dreams, supported by a spirit of challenge that refuses to turn back when facing obstacles, a diligent attitude, and the positive mindset in all things that this approach has fostered.
