This blog post examines how the progression from foundational learning to specialized major studies and practical skill enhancement naturally aligns with future career goals. It outlines the direction and persuasiveness a mechanical engineering academic plan should embody.
Motivation for Pursuing This Major (Reason for Choosing the Major)
Ever since I was a child, I’ve had an exceptional fondness for tinkering with machines. While my friends were reading comic books or playing games, I would embark on my own adventures, carrying computer magazines and exploring electronics stores. The parts I painstakingly acquired felt like treasures to me. I can never forget the moment music flowed from the first CD player I built entirely on my own.
Then one day, I happened to see a program about ‘Mechanical Engineering’ on EBS educational broadcasting. The moment I saw the mechanical engineers and the machines they created on screen, I became certain about my career path. ‘Mechanical Engineer’ – that was exactly the future I wanted.
And it is with the conviction that I can build that future at your esteemed institution that I apply. Some may say the future of biotechnology is brighter than that of mechanical engineering, but I disagree. And even if that were true, my resolve to become a mechanical engineer remains unshaken. It is because it is what I love, and furthermore, as long as there are mechanical engineers with the same determination as me, I believe the future of mechanical engineering is also bright.
Academic Plan and Goals
Since the Industrial Revolution, machinery has been the driving force behind humanity’s remarkable progress. I believe mechanical engineering still holds infinite potential to enable revolution in cutting-edge industrial fields. I aspire to become an expert in advanced mechanical engineering fields like ‘Mechatronics’ or ‘Robotics’. However, upon entering university, I will keep my options open and broadly acquire knowledge across my major field.
I believe my first and second years will be spent laying the foundation to become a mechanical engineer. To study cutting-edge mechanical engineering, I consider foreign language proficiency and a broad global perspective essential. I will achieve a TOEFL score of 750 and broaden my horizons through travel during vacations. I especially plan to visit Silicon Valley in the United States. Seeing the heart of the world’s advanced industry will be a great inspiration to me.
I will also obtain CAD certifications related to mechanical design ahead of others, thoroughly preparing for my major studies in my junior and senior years. Furthermore, I will join robotics or other relevant clubs that interest me to better understand my aptitude within the field of mechanical engineering. Although I will eventually need to serve in the military during my university years, I plan to apply for the Industrial Training Institute. As I advance to higher years, I will dedicate myself to more in-depth and specialized major studies. Simultaneously, I will pass the General Machinery Engineer and Advanced Technical Engineer examinations to build the qualifications of an excellent mechanical engineer.
Post-Graduation Plans
Regarding my plans after graduating from university, I am keeping various possibilities open. Since the joy of physically handling and assembling machines shaped my dream of becoming a mechanical engineer, I anticipate I will likely pursue work focused on actually building machines rather than pure theory. However, I don’t want to rule out the possibility of discovering new potential through my university experience. If I dedicate myself fully to my studies, I believe by my third or fourth year, I will be able to assess my aptitudes and potential based on my accumulated experience and learning. If further study is needed, I will consider graduate school and make decisions appropriate to the situation.
Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)
I believe that above all else in life, self-satisfaction is paramount. Without personal happiness, fulfillment, or joy, even if one enjoys the wealth and fame everyone envies, they would live a joyless life. My dream of becoming a mechanical engineer also stemmed from my love for machines. The desire to pursue what one loves may seem simple, but I believe it is the clearest motivation. I see university as a place to study for one’s life path and discover oneself. I will spare no effort to become someone who can stand tall and proud in the career I have chosen.
