This blog post explores how to convincingly showcase your dream of becoming an architect and your motivation for pursuing this field in an academic plan for architectural engineering. It also examines effective ways to express your academic goals and future architectural vision.
Motivation for Pursuing the Major (Reason for Choosing the Major)
My older brother once shared his experience participating in the Love House Building volunteer activity while he was a sophomore in the Architectural Engineering Department. The Love House Building Movement is a private volunteer initiative aimed at solving housing problems for low-income citizens without homes. My brother served as a team leader for this movement’s headquarters, sweating profusely all summer long while volunteering. At that time, I thought my brother, who had returned after building a home for a low-income family without a house, was cooler than the president. And I, too, developed the dream of majoring in architectural engineering to do such rewarding work like my brother.
I applied to your university because I wish to find meaning in life by planning and designing the physical environment—including all structures essential to human life—in a way that is beautiful, comfortable, safe, and economical. Architecture is the fundamental stage of human life, embodying the economic, technological, and cultural outcomes of a society. I aspire to become a competent architect equipped with specialized knowledge to grasp architecture holistically and coordinate and lead the entire architectural process.
Academic Plan and Goals
To become a creative professional with both specialized knowledge and technical skills in architectural engineering, I will diligently study core subjects such as architectural planning and production methods reflecting human form, architectural design and theory, history and building codes, architectural structures and structural analysis, construction and materials, environmental principles, and facilities. Furthermore, since architecture also requires significant engineering knowledge, I will not neglect foundational studies like physics and mathematics. Building upon a foundation of fundamental knowledge in architectural engineering and general architecture, I will cultivate a comprehensive understanding of architecture and problem-solving abilities. Furthermore, I will develop specialized knowledge and practical skills in architectural engineering according to my aptitude and abilities.
Additionally, I wish to contribute, even in small ways, to helping elderly grandparents living in difficult circumstances through activities like the university student volunteer program to repair aging homes in rural and fishing villages.
Post-Graduation Plans
I have a strong interest in researching eco-friendly buildings. Therefore, after graduating from your university, I plan to pursue graduate studies to develop the technologies and materials necessary for constructing environmentally conscious buildings and to research optimal eco-friendly design techniques.
With environmental issues like global warming gaining prominence, environmental protection is increasingly emphasized in building construction. While fragmented technologies are currently being applied to build eco-friendly buildings, there is no clear evaluation of how eco-friendly they truly are. Consequently, there is uncertainty about which technologies should be applied in construction. Therefore, I wish to conduct research that proposes and evaluates ideal construction methods from an environmental protection perspective.
I am drawing a blueprint for the future, hoping that many buildings will be created that provide a healthy and comfortable environment for the people living within them.
Self-Introduction (Life Philosophy, Values)
“Only when a caterpillar desperately wants to fly does it become possible for it to fly.” This is one of the important passages from Trina Paulus’s book, ‘Hope for the Flowers’. I first read this book in high school and loved this passage so much that I always kept it in my heart. It remains one of the few passages still etched in my mind today. This book chronicles the life journey of a small caterpillar overcoming adversity and hardship to grow into a butterfly.
Reading this book, I discovered a message of hope dreaming of life’s transformation. They say success belongs to those who dream. Only bold challenges to put good dreams into action can realize the dreams I hold. Like the butterfly’s dream—if you desire it earnestly, you can fly—I too will earnestly desire, earnestly prepare, and earnestly wait to achieve the dream I first held.
