My Growth Journey

As a child, whenever my parents bought me toys, I always insisted on boats or ship models. One day during my childhood, on a cruise trip with my parents, I first encountered the majestic presence of a massive ship, which left a profound impression on me. Since then, my interest naturally gravitated toward everything that floats on water. I never felt much interest in cars or airplanes; my happiest times were spent playing with various toy boats that floated on water. My fascination went beyond simply liking boat-shaped toys. I sought out books about warships from around the world and the internal structures of vessels to build my knowledge. I found greater enjoyment in assembling model kits myself than in playing with finished toys, immersing myself in meticulously putting each piece together. Furthermore, whenever we visited tourist spots by rivers or lakes, it was only natural for me to be the first one eager to try out the duck boats or ferry boats.
At first, my parents found my passion somewhat strange and unfamiliar, but they always responded with unstinting support and interest in the things I loved and immersed myself in. Rather than pressuring me with prejudices like ‘it won’t help with college entrance exams’ or ‘dream more practically,’ they took pride in the fact that I had discovered a field I could devote myself to so wholeheartedly at such a young age. And with the hope that I would continue pursuing that interest, they never hesitated to provide whatever support I needed. Both my parents had dreams they cherished in their youth, but they had experienced having to compromise with reality due to family circumstances or societal expectations. Therefore, they sincerely wished more than anyone else that I, at least, would not abandon my own will and steadfastly walk the path I had chosen for myself. It was because of my parents’ warm encouragement and unwavering belief that I could choose my path with greater confidence and nurture my dreams.

School Life

During my school years, rather than focusing solely on subjects I enjoyed and neglecting others, I was a student who strove to maintain balanced grades across all subjects. I kept in mind the possibility that even areas seemingly unrelated at first glance could ultimately be organically connected. Having long dreamed of designing or building ships, I initially questioned whether I really needed to dedicate myself to subjects like Korean language or biology, which seemed less directly relevant to my major. However, over time, I came to realize that all learning in the world is interconnected in invisible ways. From then on, I began weaving a dense web of knowledge, always mindful of the possibility that meaningful connections could emerge in any field.
This attitude didn’t stem from anxiety that focusing only on favorite subjects might cause me to miss hidden links to other fields. Rather, it came from a practical sense that new knowledge could become necessary at any time, in any moment. Even if not directly tied to my areas of interest and passion, I believed it was better to steadily build foundational knowledge piece by piece, gaining broad exposure across diverse fields. This knowledge web became the foundation that allowed me to smoothly accept and absorb new learning when encountering it in unexpected areas.
It saved me from the wasted time of belatedly realizing I needed to relearn fundamentals from scratch, and it cultivated my ability to respond flexibly to problems approaching from any direction. Recognizing that knowledge concentrated solely in specific fields could quickly become unbalanced, I intentionally strove to develop capabilities spanning diverse domains. Thanks to this, my learning expanded in a more multidimensional and harmonious way, avoiding one-sidedness. Looking back now, I realize those struggles and choices laid the groundwork that made me stronger. Ultimately, my school years weren’t just a time measured by grades; they became a crucial foundation for deciding which direction to expand myself.

On the Strengths and Weaknesses of Personality

Just as one cannot live eating only their favorite side dishes, life doesn’t allow us to do only what we want forever. I accepted this truth early on and strive to embrace it wisely. We are all born different, with distinct tastes and preferences. As the saying goes, “Ten people, ten colors” – what we like and how we prefer things vary immensely. Therefore, I believe a certain degree of difference in likes, dislikes, and personality is natural. However, I believe we must guard against the attitude of selectively accepting only what suits us and unconditionally rejecting what we dislike.
Life is like a bag of chocolate or cereal with mixed flavors. Just as you open a bag and willingly accept and savor each distinct flavor inside, I believe life requires an attitude of accepting even moments or situations we don’t prefer. You can’t live forever like a child, picking only what you like and trading it with those around you. Ultimately, what matters is how you accept even the parts you dislike, integrate them into yourself, and grow from them. I believe this is precisely one measure of maturity.
This tendency sometimes made me appear like someone who doesn’t take a clear stance. I’ve heard from others that I gave the impression of being indecisive or lacking clear convictions. Yet, I always held one principle in my heart: rather than reacting sensitively and taking offense at everything, I wanted to maturely embrace diverse perspectives with patience, and through that, build deeper relationships with people.
When I’m with someone, even if their ways or thoughts differ from mine, I strive to understand them first, rather than jumping to judgment. I believe this is the very beginning of a relationship and an attitude of respecting others. Sometimes, even if it made me a little uncomfortable, that experience gave me a broader perspective and more flexible thinking, which I feel has definitely become a great asset to me.
Ultimately, this aspect of my character has often worked to my advantage rather than as a disadvantage. It has reduced conflicts with others and given me the strength to adapt flexibly in diverse environments. Moving forward, I aim to become an even stronger person, embracing everything as part of life rather than chasing only what I like.

Values

I sincerely hope everyone can maintain a straight-line attitude, moving steadily toward their dreams. We often say that “growing up means abandoning dreams and accepting reality.” Perhaps because of this, it’s common to see people dismiss childhood wishes or future aspirations as trivial, or to regard the dreams held back then as mere childish emotions of the past. But my perspective is slightly different. Reality and ideals are not necessarily destined to drift apart.
While reality and ideals are sometimes seen as parallel lines that never meet, I believe these two axes can gradually align through persistent effort. If each person strives to bridge that gap, they can ultimately merge into a single path. When ideals and reality unite without conflict, we gain the power to forge a better reality. Human will does not stop at merely enduring reality; it can expand to improve and transform it.
Dreams from childhood, when one was unaware of the ways of the world, should not be dismissed or belittled outright. Rather, precisely because those childhood dreams stem from the purest, brightest heart, they can be valuable aspirations that touch more closely upon a person’s true sincerity. Dreams born from such sincerity can become a life direction worth pursuing even as an adult, serving as an unshakable center even under the weight of reality.
I understand such dreams not as mere ideals or childhood illusions, but as an inner driving force propelling life forward. Precisely for this reason, I believe the attitude of cherishing dreams and never ceasing efforts to realize them is paramount. The power of our dreams can reach much farther than we imagine.

Motivation for Application and Aspirations

As a child, I had a particularly deep affection for ships. When choosing toys, I always insisted on ship models or ship-related toys, and my heart would race every time I assembled and gazed at those little ships. This childhood passion didn’t end as mere curiosity; over time, it evolved into a concrete career path. Now, beyond simple admiration, I possess a clear goal and determination to grow into a true expert in the specialized field of ship design.
My parents’ unwavering support and encouragement throughout this journey have been my greatest driving force. Thanks to their constant respect for my choices and their unwavering support, I was able to nurture a consistent dream over the long term, not just a fleeting passion. I believe this deeply resonates with your company’s ideal of seeking talent who harbors a ‘romance’ for the sea and ships and dedicates themselves to their work based on that passion. Therefore, I earnestly hope for the opportunity to become a member of your company and to apply my passion and sincerity to practical work.
Should I be granted the opportunity to work at your company, I will dedicate myself to strengthening my foundational knowledge and enhancing my practical capabilities through hands-on experience, striving to grow beyond my current stage of inadequacy and immaturity. No matter how grand and ambitious the visions and aspirations for ships may be in one’s mind, without the practical skills and systematic approach to actually bring them to life, they ultimately struggle to translate into tangible value.
Therefore, I aim to balance theory and practice through hands-on field experience, gaining practical capabilities by participating in your company’s diverse projects. By steadily progressing through these steps, I aspire to become a true expert capable of realizing the dream I have long cherished. I pledge to continuously learn, embrace challenges, and grow alongside your company as a dedicated professional.
