“Tearing my pants at a PPT competition”
I enjoy speaking and presenting in front of people and am confident in doing so. Although I am a woman, I possess a strong innate rationality and a high drive for achievement. I derive great joy and satisfaction from clearly explaining the content I have prepared to others. It was precisely this passion and sense of responsibility that led me to experience the somewhat absurd situation of tearing my pants during a PPT competition.
Winning first place in the school PPT contest earned me a spot in the national university PPT competition. Being a major external event, I was extremely nervous and poured my heart into preparation. Our presentation topic was ‘Future Design,’ which perfectly suited our team—mechanical engineering majors deeply interested in design—allowing us to approach it with even greater passion.
But on presentation day, I made a huge mistake. Perhaps due to nerves, I completely forgot to pack a suit. Fortunately, I had a white shirt, but I hadn’t prepared any bottoms at all. Knowing that attire affects the scoring in the competition, I realized I couldn’t go on stage like this. The bigger problem was that all my teammates were male, and borrowing a women’s suit wasn’t an option.
The solution I chose was to improvise a skirt using one of my teammates’ black pants. I asked one team member for the pants he was wearing, then tore them myself to make a makeshift skirt. I then confidently took the stage and delivered my presentation. The presentation was successful, and we even ended up winning an award. What struck me upon returning after the presentation was that precisely because I carried myself with such confidence, no one paid any attention to my outfit. That day, I truly realized the immense power that confidence can bring.
On another level, it was also an experience that made me keenly appreciate the value of my teammates’ consideration and cooperation. Because I used his pants, he couldn’t join us at the competition venue and had to watch the contest from the dorm, covered in a blanket. I was truly grateful to my friend who set aside his own role and sacrificed for the team’s success. It made me deeply feel once again how important teamwork is, and how valuable cooperation and support truly are.
Looking back, this experience transcended simply winning an award in a presentation. It was an unforgettable, rewarding moment for me, allowing me to personally experience crisis management skills, overcoming challenges through confidence, and the preciousness of cooperation. Even now, recalling that day brings a smile, yet it remains a significant scene in my growth, one that will stay with me for a long time.

Major Field and Achievements

I majored in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Business Administration at university. Mechanical Engineering is a highly practical discipline directly focused on machinery, allowing me to broadly learn skills applicable in real industrial settings through both theory and hands-on practice. For instance: – Machine Shop Technology: Mastered techniques and theories for cutting raw materials into components using various methods. – Materials Science: Applied principles from one-dimensional to three-dimensional continua based on fundamental mechanics and equilibrium structure understanding. – Combustion and Pollution Control: Studied phenomena in combustion processes and technologies to suppress resulting air pollutants. Automotive Engineering, where I studied the development of automotive power machinery, compared the theoretical operating principles, structures, and performance of engines, and learned the fundamentals of design; and Materials Strength, which dealt more specifically with the yield and failure mechanisms of materials. I systematically studied and practiced these major engineering theories and technologies essential for practical work, developing real-world skills.
Alongside this, I chose Business Administration as my minor. In an era where the convergence of technology and management is crucial, this was a choice made to cultivate a broader perspective. Hearing Professor Ahn Cheol-soo’s lecture, which emphasized the necessity of managerial thinking even for engineers, was a pivotal moment. His words provided significant motivation, leading me to decide on the Business Administration minor. I perceived business administration as a discipline demanding relatively higher-level analytical, planning, and strategic capabilities compared to engineering. This course naturally exposed me to frequent PowerPoint presentations and team projects, through which I discovered my personality was well-suited to public speaking and expressing opinions. This experience became a catalyst for confident and active participation in external activities and practical collaborations later on, serving as a valuable opportunity to uncover another potential within me beyond technology.
Studying two distinct fields—Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration—allowed me to cultivate two wings: practical acumen and strategic thinking. I am confident these two majors will not only lead to academic achievement but also serve as crucial foundations for my future path.

Construction and Plant Industry

“Building Major Competencies Through Plant Lectures and Industry Internships”
The plant industry has always been a promising field that naturally captures the interest of engineering students. I recall never missing an opportunity to listen intently whenever renowned professors or industry professionals gave guest lectures during my university years. It was a great asset that I could deepen my understanding of my major not only through theoretical knowledge but also by concurrently gaining hands-on experience at industrial sites.
As I understand it, a plant refers to ‘production facilities that technically integrate machinery and equipment to manufacture the raw materials, intermediate goods, or final products desired by the producer.’ In today’s era where machinery and raw materials operate in close connection, plants are inevitably a vital industry. I was particularly drawn to small-to-medium or large-scale mechanical facilities incorporating complex integration technology, and among integrated unit plants combining diverse technical systems, I found power plants and chemical plants especially fascinating. This interest naturally guided my industrial training toward these specific fields.
Through this internship, I experienced the practical operational processes of the plant industry firsthand. It was then that I first learned about the stature of GS Construction. Witnessing the company actively conducting import/export and projects both domestically and internationally left a strong impression on me. From that moment, I developed a concrete goal: to work at GS Construction someday.
Thus, the knowledge accumulated through major courses and practical experience broadened my understanding of the plant industry and decisively influenced my long-term career path. Moving forward, I aim to grow into a professional with deeper technical expertise, building upon these experiences.

Desired Position and Reason for Application

“Because I understand the importance of planning.” I have chosen GS, a company that is truly the undisputed leader in its field. Among its divisions, I am applying for the scheduler position in the ‘Construction’ sector because I am confident this role best aligns with my aptitude and capabilities, allowing me to leverage my unique strengths. Although I have often faced the prejudice that women are physically weaker, I have worked tirelessly to prove such notions wrong. Since my university days, I have thrown myself into numerous projects, fiercely accumulating experience. While I certainly felt physical limitations during this process, I developed the habit of meticulously planning and executing my daily schedule to overcome them. I planned everything thoroughly: what time to wake up, how to allocate 30-minute or 1-hour blocks after meals for specific tasks, how to optimize travel routes, and what work to multitask during lectures I attended. Even when attending plant-related lectures, I calculated travel time to ensure I could fit in other tasks, meticulously scheduling my day. By planning each day this way, I filled over 50 notebooks by the time I graduated from university. These weren’t just idea journals; they were records of how I carved out and utilized every minute of my life. Building on this disposition and experience, I aim to work diligently as your company’s scheduler, compensating for physical limitations with strategic thinking and time management skills. While I still have much to learn and master, I intend to diligently learn from my seniors and grow rapidly. This will help streamline workflows and contribute to making GS Construction stand out even more among the world’s leading companies.

Creative Problem-Solving Ability

“Healthy Lunchbox Project”
One of the many expectations people have about college life is the idealized vision of the department lounge. They hope it will be a space where warm-hearted seniors and juniors naturally gather, sharing dreams and hopes, and sometimes even life’s worries together. However, reality often differs. Department lounges are mostly empty, and participation in department events is low. With everyone busy focusing solely on their own tasks, a sense of cooperation or community spirit is hard to find.
The desire to change this situation arose after I became the department president. I hoped the ‘department room’ could become more than just an empty space—a place where members gather, share stories, and feel a sense of belonging. So, in consultation with the welfare department, I initiated the ‘Healthy Lunchbox Project’. Observing university students today, their eating habits often become quite irregular or drift toward unhealthy patterns. They frequently consume only overly salty or sweet foods, or skip meals altogether. I focused on this issue and wanted to provide a small solution, especially for friends who struggle to eat properly or consume excessive calories.
That solution was ‘Providing Healthy Lunchboxes in the Department Room’. At the time, a new lunchbox specialty shop had opened near campus. I proposed a partnership with them that combined sponsorship and promotion. The plan was to have lunchboxes permanently stocked in the department room at a low cost, thereby naturally encouraging students to visit the room. Fortunately, the lunchbox shop responded positively to this idea, creating a mutually beneficial arrangement.
The outcome was far more positive than expected. As word spread about the lunchboxes in the study room, students began gathering there one by one. Inside, conversations flowed naturally, and a lively atmosphere began to take shape. The small talk shared over a healthy meal softened previously awkward relationships, bringing a small but warm wave of change to the entire department. Simultaneously, word of mouth boosted the lunchbox shop’s student clientele. What was an unfamiliar shop just a year ago has now become a popular spot for many students.
Through this small initiative, I was able to foster unity within the department and contribute to providing tangible welfare. It was a meaningful experience precisely because it wasn’t just about ‘providing lunch boxes,’ but became a creative solution that restored community and connected people. This experience also reminded me of the importance of the process: identifying a problem and translating it into a practical idea.
