This blog post provides specific guidance on the core competencies and heartfelt messages you must include in your application essay to become an asset manager who walks alongside the lives of ordinary citizens.
Motivation and Effort
“Nonghyup: A Proud Institution Protecting the Common People”
I grew up in a neighborhood where many grandparents lived. Since there weren’t many children in the area, I spent my afternoans running errands alone, enjoying the treat of candy I’d receive. Among these, the most frequent request was, “Go to Nonghyup for me.” Both my grandmother and grandfather had accounts at NH where they saved money, sent money to their beloved children, or received money from them. Beyond that, NH was always there for our family—paying for medicine, settling utility bills, and more. Thanks to this, I naturally developed the dream of becoming someone who works at NH. From my childhood, NH was a very close presence to me, and as time passed, its meaning grew deeper. I was deeply moved by NH’s role as an institution protecting ordinary citizens, realizing welfare for the people, and striving for farmers. This strengthened my dream of working at NH.
Thanks to my meticulous nature since childhood, I often took on administrative roles. I realized my personality suited logical, detailed calculations and tasks, naturally leading me to develop an interest in accounting-related work. As a result, I obtained my accountant certification early on. Subsequently, I gained practical experience through part-time jobs in bookkeeping and accounting support. After confirming my work capabilities through these roles, I finalized my career path as an asset manager and began acquiring relevant certifications one by one. After successively obtaining Investment Consultant and Fund Investment Consultant certifications, I acquired the Asset Manager qualification, setting my goal to work as an asset manager at NH.
Moving forward, I will diligently strive to grow into an outstanding asset manager at Nonghyup who provides tangible assistance to our customers. I will continuously work to enhance Nonghyup’s value and fulfill my role in delivering real benefits to our clients. I aim to contribute to Nonghyup’s development in a positive direction and fulfill my responsibilities as a proud member of this organization.

Personal Strengths
“Let’s spread warmth to everyone”
I possess a rational personality and am not easily swayed by emotions. I do not get easily excited by others’ words, struggle due to mood swings, or get angry because of the atmosphere. Growing up, I learned the importance of etiquette from the elders in my neighborhood, and thanks to that, I always strive to remain calm and maintain composure. Consequently, I have never made mistakes or botched tasks due to personal emotions while performing my duties. My strength lies in this rational disposition, enabling me to always assess situations coolly and act accordingly.
Among my various part-time experiences, the most challenging was working at a ski resort. Working there exposed me to truly extreme conditions. The cold weather and moving heavy equipment were grueling, but the hardest part was maintaining a schedule from 5 AM to 3 AM, barely getting two hours of sleep. This physically drained me to the point I lost 10kg.
Despite this, I never showed my exhaustion when interacting with people. No matter how tired or difficult it got, I made sure not to lose my kindness and warmth towards guests. I encountered various situations—demanding guests, rowdy couples, customers struggling to rent skis—but I always responded calmly and generously with kindness. I believe expressing my emotions during those tough moments would have only made things harder for me. Instead, hearing the guests’ smiles and words of thanks gave me renewed strength to finish the job.
Though I didn’t earn much money back then, barely slept, and endured immense physical and mental exhaustion, I believe that experience taught me patience and how to convey warmth to others. Despite the hardship, that process ultimately helped me grow, shaping me into someone who can offer greater consideration and kindness when interacting with people.
That experience taught me to maintain an unshakable mindset no matter the situation and became a precious lesson for me.
Achievement Experience
“Winning the popularity vote at leadership camp”
The experience that gave me the greatest sense of accomplishment was winning the popularity vote at leadership camp. Of course, I also remember receiving an award for submitting a paper for the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation beforehand, and the time I cried my eyes out with my team members on the flight back to Korea after an overseas volunteer program. But among these, the experience at the leadership camp held a special meaning for me.
After graduating from university and while preparing for certifications, I felt that focusing solely on studying for those certifications would be a waste of my time at 27 years old. So, I wanted to pursue an extracurricular activity alongside my studies, and coincidentally, my school was running a leadership camp. I participated in that camp and received 10 weeks of training in leadership, management, and self-development.
However, the experience at the camp wasn’t entirely smooth sailing. Everyone gathered at the leadership camp already had experience as leaders. It was a gathering of student council presidents, club presidents, and leaders from various organizations, so asserting one’s own opinions wasn’t easy. Even when teams were randomly assigned to work on tasks, it was difficult to narrow down opinions because everyone was busy pushing their own agenda.
The approach I took at that time was to listen to people’s opinions. Most people were so focused on pushing their own points that they ignored others’ opinions. Amidst this, I was the only one actively trying to listen to what others had to say. I refrained from voicing my own opinions and gave others ample opportunity to speak. Gradually, others began to adopt a similar approach. We started respecting each other’s views, and the conversation flowed naturally. After that, an atmosphere developed where team members could share their strengths and weaknesses and collaborate effectively.
Toward the end of the camp, separate from the team awards, I was voted the most popular participant, which gave me great pride. Receiving praise as ‘the most indispensable person at the leadership camp,’ I realized through that experience that what’s crucial in leadership isn’t just ‘leading,’ but also how important it is to ‘listen and acknowledge.’ This experience taught me that listening to people and respecting their opinions is the core of true leadership.
This experience at the leadership camp meant more to me than simply receiving an award. It was a precious opportunity to learn how people cooperate, communicate, and respect each other, and it made me deeply reflect on the skills needed in society.
Failure Experience and Lessons Learned
As I approached university graduation, I was preparing for the civil service exam. By my third year, watching seniors struggle with employment up close, I gradually lost confidence without realizing it. Before that, I believed I could handle anything, but at that point, uncertainty about the future began to chip away at my self-assurance. I was overwhelmed by uncertainty about what to do next and felt myself becoming increasingly listless. So, I decided to prepare for the accounting civil service exam, linking it to the certifications I was already studying for. Reality, however, was different. After failing the exam twice, I learned a crucial lesson: It was this: if it’s not something I truly want to do, no matter how hard I try, I can’t put my heart into it, and consequently, the results won’t be good either. Through that experience, I began to ponder what it was I truly wanted to do. Even while taking the civil service exam, my heart kept wavering, and I found myself deeply contemplating what I really wanted to do.
That’s when I recalled my childhood dream of wanting to work at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Nonghyup). I missed the warmth and consideration I felt there, and realized that feeling had stayed with me all along. So, without hesitation, I set my sights on the NH and began studying in that direction. After setting my goal, my heart felt lighter. With a clear objective, I could focus my efforts relentlessly, and the biggest lesson I learned through that process was ‘how crucial it is to have a purpose in life.’ Now, no matter what I do, I have gained the confidence to keep moving toward that goal. Compared to the uncertain times, I now have no regrets, worries, or fears. I’m simply doing my best on the path I’ve chosen and moving toward the goal I desire.
This experience gave me an important realization and became the foundation that shaped who I am today. Ultimately, what matters is knowing what you truly want and steadily striving toward that goal. There are times when fear of failure or uncertainty makes my resolve waver. But it is precisely then that I must ask myself: “What do I truly want to do?” I realized that only when you set a goal and move toward it can you truly feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
