How to convincingly showcase diligence and perseverance in an HR job application letter?

This blog post introduces how to weave the diligence and perseverance required for HR roles into your application letter—not as mere virtues, but as tangible competencies.

Growth Process

“My Father’s Passion That Shaped Me”
From a young age, I was taller and more physically imposing than my peers. My large frame made me stand out easily wherever I went, and I often found myself naturally taking center stage. Being fully aware of this, I shamefully relied on my strength to act as a “leader” during my childhood. Whether at church, tutoring centers, or school, I always tried to take the lead and guide others. But at some point, that attitude became so ingrained that I started acting stubborn and doing things my own way even at home.
Watching this, my father decided he couldn’t just stand by and watch anymore. From then on, he took me out for exercise every morning. My father had always loved sports, but he had stopped exercising for a while due to his busy schedule. In fact, he was an Aikido instructor. Even though he must have been exhausted after work, he gave up his morning sleep for me. Every dawn, he woke me up and we walked laps around the sports field together. At first, I found him bothersome and resented it. Why did he insist on taking me out every morning? I felt rebellious. But as time passed, I began to listen carefully to the words he shared during our walks, and gradually, I started to sense his genuine heart.
One day, even though he was sick with a cold, he dragged himself out to keep our exercise promise. Seeing him then, I finally understood what a truly ‘strong person’ meant. Stronger than physique or voice is responsibility, perseverance, and love. From that moment, I began to let go of clinging to the hollow title of ‘leader’ or trying to lead by force. Instead, I learned to run alongside my father, to genuinely connect with people, and to strive to emulate his life—quietly conveying his heart through actions rather than words.
To my father, who made me who I am today, I offer my sincere gratitude, then and now.

Regarding my strengths and areas for improvement

“Quiet, sincere, and therefore trustworthy.”
This phrase best describes my character. I’m not very talkative, but I’m someone who shows through actions. I’m not the type to step forward and speak up anywhere, but I believe I’m the kind of person who quietly takes charge of the back-end work and shoulders responsibility. Though it may not show outwardly, I deeply desire to be quietly present wherever I’m needed.
There was this one time. One night during the school festival, while preparing the pub, the light bulbs installed in the tent suddenly went out. As night deepened and darkness thickened, everyone panicked. There was no one nearby who knew how to handle electricity, and the situation grew increasingly urgent. Without hesitation, I reached out and touched the bulb with my bare hands. Instantly, there was a ‘pop’ and an electric shock, but my first thought was, ‘If I don’t get the lights back on now, tonight’s bar might be ruined.’ The shock was so intense it blackened my hand, but I persevered, reconnecting the wires until the lights came back on. People cheered and welcomed me, but honestly, I felt nothing beyond relief that the power was restored. When I came down, I saw my hand was badly burned. Those around me were shocked and worried, but in that moment, I could endure solely because I believed, ‘If not me, then who?’
Like this, I’m someone who, rather than complaining about pain, hardship, or difficulty, silently sees through whatever needs doing right there. While this might seem like a flaw, I actually think it’s a good trait that makes me stronger. Thanks to this, I often earn the trust of those around me, especially adults. I strive to be someone who shows through actions rather than words, someone who sees through whatever task is entrusted to me.
However, my weakness is that I tend to be quiet and somewhat reserved around people I’ve just met. Being naturally quiet, I sometimes feel awkward in new relationships. Yet, through social experiences, I’ve learned that first impressions often matter greatly, and basic courtesy and manners are fundamental to communication. So lately, I’m working on guiding conversations appropriately for the situation and making even new acquaintances feel at ease. I aim to be someone who prepares every word sincerely, ensuring my personality’s strengths don’t become weaknesses.
Moving forward, I wish to continue growing by communicating with the world quietly yet with a bit more flexibility. Through experience, I’ve learned that quiet and sincere people ultimately earn trust. And to uphold that trust, I continue to quietly hold my ground today.

School Life

“Learning Greetings”
Looking back on my school life, I seem to have held the position of president unusually often. In my first year, I was the grade president; in my second year, the student council president; and in my third year, the president of the sports club. Though I happened to experience the role of president in various positions, what I felt most deeply through those experiences was the importance of ‘greetings’.
Being president wasn’t simply about being outgoing, skilled at dancing and singing, or possessing a magnetic charm that draws people in. Rather, I personally came to understand that the role of president is about accurately recognizing each person’s strengths and characteristics, placing them in the right positions, and helping them perform their roles effectively. I believe this is precisely why I was able to continue holding these leadership positions despite having a quieter personality.
For instance, I assigned financial management to someone sincere and honest rather than someone quick with numbers. I selected someone with a strong sense of responsibility as entertainment director instead of someone overflowing with energy. I recognized the hidden potential in people who seemed quiet on the surface and placed them alongside more outgoing friends to foster teamwork. By assigning roles based on people’s dispositions and abilities like this, before I knew it, people around me started saying, half-jokingly, half-seriously, that I was “good at personnel.”
Whenever I heard that, I’d just laugh it off, but looking back, those experiences honed my eye for people and sparked both an interest in and a sense of responsibility toward ‘personnel’ and ‘organizational management.’ Through the role of chairman, I learned more than just leadership; I learned to recognize the value of the people I worked with and how to guide them harmoniously. And in that process, I naturally began another study called ‘personnel management,’ a lesson I still cherish today.

Passionate Experience

“Filling the Void”
During my college years, I worked as an intern reporter. The job was far more grueling and demanding than I had imagined. My assigned beat was IT, but one day, the culture reporter suddenly dropped out, leaving no one to cover culture stories. The deadline was approaching, and we were short-staffed. After much deliberation, I decided to take on the culture stories as well, ultimately becoming responsible for writing both IT and culture articles.
For a while, I had to handle three times the workload. The amount of work increased significantly, but my pay remained the same. It was an extremely physically and mentally demanding time. Nevertheless, I persevered with the thought, “This is an experience I can only have now,” and tackled each day armed with diligence and a sense of responsibility. As a result, after my internship, I was hired as a contract reporter and later gained the opportunity to work as a freelance reporter as well.
Looking back on that period, what matters more than simply working long hours is that I internalized the attitude of “doing even small tasks diligently.” Thanks to this, I could steadily build my resume amidst a busy school life and even gain enough financial leeway to cover tuition with my writing fees or give my parents pocket money. That mindset—to take responsibility for anything I was entrusted with—allowed me to connect with wonderful people and create meaningful opportunities for myself.
Moreover, this experience provided me with a professional foundation. It wasn’t just about writing many articles; moving between IT and culture, researching and analyzing, opened my eyes to the underlying currents and trends in each field. This became vital nourishment that broadened the scope of my life, writing, and thinking thereafter.
Looking back, that period wasn’t about filling a vacancy; it was a time I spent cultivating myself. Though it was overwhelming to handle alone, that time taught me profoundly that ‘attitude determines the outcome of any task.’ That realization continues to deeply influence how I work to this day.

Reasons for Applying and Aspirations After Joining

“I will become a person who shines on their own.”
In this world, there are people who shine softly like the moon, and others who radiate brightly on their own like the sun. Those like the moon only glow when reflecting others’ light, yet they possess a warm and gentle charm. Conversely, those like the sun emit their own light based on intense, spontaneous energy and are often regarded as leaders with a strong sense of responsibility. I have always strived to be like the sun, shining brightly on my own. Having planned and acted independently since childhood, I am more accustomed to stepping forward to help and lead than waiting for others’ assistance. I found greater fulfillment in giving help than receiving it, and diverse experiences confirmed this attitude aligns well with my nature. Thus, I have firmly established my identity as both a ‘supportive person’ and a ‘self-driven individual’.
Now, building on this identity, I aspire to become a member of Samsung expanding globally and grow together. Samsung is the global company everyone dreams of, and I too wish to showcase my abilities and passion on the Samsung stage. While I am just one among countless applicants, I can confidently state this: if you seek someone with a strong sense of responsibility and the perseverance to drive things forward quietly and steadily, I earnestly hope you will take notice of me. I am someone who fearlessly and unwaveringly sees assigned tasks through to completion. I promise to be a talent who injects positive energy into the large Samsung organization and collaborates to build the future. I will continue to grow as someone who shines brightly, bringing both warm energy and resolute execution to the team I join. I look forward to your consideration.
